In Jashore, a Class II madrasa student was said to have been sexually harassed by her teacher in Nowapara of Sadar upazila.
The accused teacher was identified as Md Abu Musa, Bangla teacher of Shamsul Ulum Rahmania Madrasa. He has gone into hiding since the incident came to light.
According to the victim’s mother, who filed the complaint, her daughter came home crying on Tuesday. Being asked, her daughter said that the teacher harassed her sexually.
She claimed that when they informed the incident to an in-charge of the madrasa Md Sarwar Hossain, they helped the accused teacher to flee.
The girl alleged that the teacher often touched her body and harassed her several times. The teacher also threatened the girl for not sharing anything with others.
Rezaul Hossain Biswas, general secretary of the madrasa, said that action will be taken against the teacher.
Denying allegation of helping the accused to flee, Sarwar said that he did not know anything about the incident. He heard that the family members of the girl came to the committee.
Over at Rajshashi University, thirteen students submitted their allegations against Professor Amirul Momemin Chowdhury, a teacher of the Graphic Design, Crafts and History of Art department on Wednesday noon.
Professor Laila Arjuman Banu, member of the Sexual Harassment Prevention Cell and students’ advisor of the university, said they received the allegations and are trying to investigate the matter.
According to the charge sheet, the female students could not concentrate on their studies as they were being sexually and mentally harassed by the teacher.
“The teacher used to make lewd gestures, speak indecently, touch their bodies and even sent a licentious video on Facebook,” the students said.
Mentioning that he is aware of the charge sheet, Professor Dr. Siddhartha Shankar Talukder, Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts told UNB that he cannot say anything before a thorough investigation has been completed.
