State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Wednesday directed the officials concerned to promptly address the dissatisfaction of consumers over electricity bills.
He said it is essential to inform the customers as to why they are being given average electricity bills and how these bills would be adjusted.
“You should make your call centres more customer-friendly to gain consumers’ confidence,” he told the officials of different power utilities at an online meeting from his home.
Nasrul’s directive came against the backdrop of customers’ complaint on overstated bills issued by different power utilities when the government waived surcharge on delayed electricity bills due to coronavirus outbreak.
He discussed with the officials about the preparation of the Power Division and its subordinate bodies to tackle the situation after cyclone Amphan.
He expressed satisfaction over the pre-disaster, during disaster and post-disaster preparations taken by different utilities under the power division so that power supply is not disrupted.
“Please, take immediate measures to restore power supply if there is any interruption by the cyclone,” he told officials.
The state minister also inaugurated a newly built 132/33 kV GIS Grid substation of Dhaka Power Supply Company (DPDC) in Fatullah which will play a vital role in improving power supply to Fatullah, Panchabati, Anayetnagar, Narayanganj BSCIC Industrial zone and adjoining areas.
The virtual meeting was attended by Power Secretary Dr Sultan Ahmed, BPDB Chairman Belayet Hossain, Power Cell Director General Mohammad Hossain, Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Managing Director Golam Kibria, DPDC Managing Director Bikash Dewan, DESCO Managing Director Kawsar Amir Ali, WZPDC Managing Director Shafiq Uddin and NESCO Managing Director Zahidul Islam.
