“Considering the overall situation, it seems to me we’re not heading towards a fair election. There have been efforts since morning to destroy the election environment by creating panic and launching attacks,” he said.
The BNP candidate came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after casting his votes at Manarat Dhaka International School and College.
He complained about the breakdown of EVM while his mother was casting vote.
The BNP candidate urged voters to come to polling stations and cast their votes. “Our power is the people, and we’ll tackle every situation.”
Though he stayed away from the election race halfway through during the last DNCC polls in 2015, Tabith said he will be there in the voting till the last minute.
“We’re not giving up and getting demoralised. We’ve understood that our opponents have become scared,” he said.
Tabith said his polling agents were not allowed to enter different polling stations, including Kalachandpur High School and Banani Model School ones.
The BNP candidate said they are instantly making complaints with the Election Commission and the law enforcers about the various irregularities.
He alleged that though magistrates should be there in all areas, he did not find any one in his area.
Tabith along with his family members went to the voting centre around 8:30am where his mother Nasrin Fatema Awal faced difficulties to give vote through the EVMs as the machine was not working.
Later, the election officers fixed the problem and took vote.
Assistant presiding officer Farjana Sharmin of the centre said the connection of EVM as not working its panel got loosed. We changed the panel later and took her (Nasrin’s) vote.”
