He was arrested in Dubai on last Wednesday.
“He’ll be brought back soon through the Foreign Ministry after completion of necessary formalities,” said Assistant Inspector General of Police Headquarters Sohel Rana.
Jisan was arrested in a joint initiative of the National Central Bureau (NCB) unit at the Bangladesh Police Headquarters and the NCB Dubai, Rana added.
Bangladesh announced a Tk 15 lakh award on December 27, 2001 for information about 23 notorious criminals in the capital. Jisan was one of them.
He was involved in extortion and criminal activities in Gulshan, Banani and Badda and other parts of the capital.
His name came to limelight after two officers of Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police were shot dead at a residential hotel in Malibagh in 2003.
Jisan fled to India in 2005.
Sources at the police headquarters said Jisan went to Dubai from India after managing an Indian Passport and changed his name to Ali Akbar Chowdhury.
Interpol issued a red alert in his name.
His name came up again after the arrest of Jubo League leaders GK Shamim and Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan last month during an anti-corruption drive.
