Additionally, they encouraged everyone to connect more with our social and cultural values to lead a meaningful life.
These perceptions came up at a short film exhibition titled “Projonmo Wave Outreach Filmy Katha” hosted by MCJ Film Club, an organization of the students of the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism (MCJ) in association with Dhaka University Cultural Society (DUCS) at Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium of Social Science Faculty of Dhaka University (DU).
Directors, actors and cultural figures gathered for the screenings sharing their insights with DU students present in the audience.
Chairperson of the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism Dr Kaberi Gayen lauded the hosts and the directors whose works were featured at the exhibition saying that through watching such works, students will learn about our cultural roots.
The exhibition saw the screening of three short films ---‘Chorabali’ directed by Badrul Anam Saud, ‘Uttoradhikar’ directed by Shabnam Ferdausi, and ‘Fera’ directed by Bashar George.
These films revolved around themes which concern the youth of the country such as drug addiction, social acceptance and religious extremism.
Directors of each film and cultural figures spoke in between the screenings discussing the works and answered the audience’s questions.
Director Badrul Anam Saud said that in our society drug addiction is a threat more fatal for the women as society tends to ostracize them.
Director Shabnam Ferdausi talked about the impact of religious extremism over the family of a youth who deviated to darker paths.
Director Georgis Bashar spoke about the theme of his movie saying the characters depicted his own experience regarding social acceptance of a terrorist’s family.
Prominent actor Ziaul Hasan Kislu and Tropa Majumder also spoke on the occasion alongside DUCS President Ragib Rahman.
The festival was jointly funded by the US Embassy and Expressions Ltd.
