Dhaka Premier Division T20 Cricket League's second season began on Monday. Mohammedan Sporting Club, Prime Bank, Sheikh Jamal, and Abahani Limited won their respective matches. The remaining two matches of the day had no results because of the persistent rain. Shakibhad a good outing in the first round of DPL, which indicates that he will return to his usual form after a poor performance in the last Sri Lanka series. Four matches were completed at the end of the first round, while the remaining two matches were stopped due to inclement weather. Let's take a look at the outcomes of the matches.

Shinepukur Cricket Club vs Mohammedan Sporting Club

Result: Mohammedan won by 3 wickets

Shakib Al Hasan-led Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club played their first match at BKSP in Savar. Mohammedan beat Shinepukur Sporting Club by three wickets with one ball in hand and enjoys a perfect start to the tournament, earning all three points.

Batting first, Shinepukur scored 125 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. TanzidHasan scored the highest 30 runs for the team. For Mohammedan, skipper Shakib and fast bowler Yasin Arafat took two wickets each. In reply, Mohammedan reached the target in 19.5 overs for the loss of 7 wickets. Opener Parvez Hossain Emon scored 39 runs and Shakib added valuable 29 runs. Captain Shakib won the player of the match award for his all-round performance.

Gazi Group Cricketers vs Prime Bank Cricket Club

Result: Prime Bank won by 7 wickets 

Prime Bank Cricket Club also played their first match at BKSP ground and beat Gazi Group Cricketers by 7 wickets.

Batting first, Gazi Group scored 91/5 runs in the allotted 12 overs. Zakir Hasan played an unbeaten 26* runs knock for the side, while Mustafizur Rahman and Nayeem Hasan picked up two wickets each for Prime Bank. In reply, Prime Bank reached the target with 16 balls to spare thanks to man of the match winner Tamim Iqbal’s scintillating 46 off 22 balls knock. Off-spinner MahediHasan bagged two wickets for Gazi Group.

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club vsKhelaghar KS

Result: Sheikh Jamal won by 22 runs

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Clubcomfortably beat Khelaghar KS by 22 runs at the SBNCS, Mirpur and earned full 3 points.

Batting first, Sheikh Jamal made 166 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Both Shykat Ali and veteran Mohammad Ashraful scored 38 runs each, while pacer Khaled Ahmed picked up two wickets for Khelaghar. In chase, Khelaghar only managed to score 144/8 in the allocated 20 overs. Imtiaz Hossain (26) was the top scorer for Khelaghar. On the other side, veteran spinner Elias Sunny bagged highest 3 wickets for Sheikh Jamal.

Partex Sporting Club vsAbahani Limited

Result: Abahani Ltd won by 7 wickets (D/L method)

Mr. dependable Mushfiqur Rahim-led Abahani Ltd played their first match at the SBNCS, Mirpur against Partex Sporting Club and won the contest by 7 wickets (D/L method).

Batting first, Partex only scored 120/5 in 20 overs. Skipper TasamulHaque played a crucial 65*-run knock. For Abahani, left-arm orthodox spinner Taijul Islam was sensational with the ball. Taijul picked up 2 wickets for 12 runs in 4 overs. Due to rain, the match referee cut the second innings to 10 overs and set a target of 70 runs for Abahani.In chase, Mushfiqur Rahim’s unbeaten 38* runs knock guided Abahani to the victory with 4 balls in hand.

Brothers Union vs Prime Doleshwar SC

Result: No 

Brothers Union scored 127/7 in 18.4 overs before the match was called off due to bad weather. Junaid Siddique made the highest 48 runs, while Sharifullah and Kamrul Islam picked up two wickets each for Prime Doleshwar.

Old DOHS Sports Club vs Legends of Rupganj

Result: No 

Old DOHS scored a huge 171/4 in 20 overs thanks to MahmudulHasan Joy’s unbeaten 78* off 55 balls knock. But the second innings was not held due to persistent rain.

The T20 World Cup will be held at the end of this year. Bangladesh will play four T20 series against Zimbabwe, England, Australia, and New Zealand respectively prior to the ICC's mega tournament. Therefore, the DPL T20 2021 is an important competition for regular members of the national team to prepare well ahead of these series. They will be able to prepare themselves by participating in this month-long tournament.
