The Walton Independence Day (Men's and Women's) Handball Tournament, organised by Bangladesh Handball Federation, on the occasion of birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, begins on Sunday (Mar 14) at Shaheed (Capt) M Monsur Ali National Handball Stadium here.
Five teams---Bangladesh Ansar & VDP, Border Guard, Bangladesh, Bangladesh Police FC, Dhaka Division and Chapainawabganj DSA--will compete in the men's competition
Four teams ---Bangladesh Ansar, Bangladesh Police FC, Jamalpur Sports Academy and Nasrul Hamid Sports Academy--will participate in the women's competition.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) Asaduzzaman Kohinoor disclosed the details of the meet at a press conference at the federation office on Thursday.
BHF vice president M Nurul Islam, executive director of meet's sponsor Walton Group FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn, chairman of the ournament, organising committee and Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Police Kazi Romana Nasrin were also spoke on the occasion.
After the league basis matches, two top teams from each groups, will play final on March 21.
Of the total budget TK 6,52,200 for the tournament, the meet's sponsor Walton Group will provide Tk 5,00,000.
Handball Federation will honour five to seven handball personalities on the closing day of the meet.
