Preview of the 2024 T20 World Cup Final between India and South Africa
It is a fascinating and fitting World Cup final in so many ways. The battle for the trophy is supposed to be between the two undisputed best teams in the world. And no one’s more fitting for that other than the two unbeaten teams of the tournament.
South Africa is making their debut appearance in the 2024 T20 World Cup final. Previously, they failed to win the World Cup semi-finals twice but got 3rd time lucky this time in the ongoing tournament against Afghanistan. India, on the other hand, won the initial edition of the tournament in 2007 hosted by South Africa, but failed to repeat it afterward. India lost one final (2024) and two semi-finals (2016 and 2022) since winning the 2007 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. In 2024, team India are on their mission for their 2nd T20 World Cup championship.
This time, South Africa appears to be unbeatable. Not only do they have a wonderfully balanced team in every department, but they also have a propensity to deliver the desired outcome in every case. They have a perfect winning record and are the only team participating in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 to do so. Additionally, South Africa are not reliant on a single player, just like any champion team. Only one of their batters is among the top 15 run-scorers in this World Cup. This may be primarily due to the kinds of pitches they were playing on. However, it is quite unexpected given the number of superstars in their bowling lineup that they have only one bowler in the top 5.
However, there will be cause for concern with their close matchups. This concern might be erased from their head after a dominant win against Afghanistan. They showed in that match why they were the better side and gave a silent warning to the Indian team as well.
Across this World Cup tournament, India appears to be the most coordinated and skilled team. They played flawlessly and won the majority of their games comfortably to advance to the semi-finals. As of now, they appear to be the overwhelming favorite to win the trophy because of the way they have dominated their opponents. Up to this point, they have depended on the collective output. In almost every situation during the games, almost every player of the team contributed significantly as per their might. They are now a team that faces no fear and is capable of defeating anyone in any circumstance. They can now at last sense that their 11-year wait for an ICC trophy is about to come to an end. But they will desperately hope for Virat Kohli's form to be back in line despite they may not even require his assistance very much.

Key Players to Watch in India Team
Rohit Sharma
Following a quiet start to the competition, Rohit Sharma really turned things up when it mattered the most. With his explosive 92-run innings against Australia and fiery 57 runs against England, he has shown his urge to be the first captain in 11 years to lead India to an ICC trophy glory. The Indian captain's role has become increasingly important in the last few matches. He has a century against South Africa in his career as well. India will undoubtedly be hoping that their captain performs as well as he did against Australia.
Jasprit Bumrah
India's strike bowler will be crucial in this match. He is the best at getting wickets early on. In a match where they need to pick up the likes of Quinton De Kock and Aiden Markram early, he is the most key player for the team. Although he has been poor against South Africa, he along with India would be eager to change it this time.
Kuldeep Yadav
By taking significant wickets in the middle overs and keeping the opposition away from settling down, Kuldeep Yadav has been one of the most instrumental bowlers for India. He has completed his work to perfection so far and now needs to do it again. A middle-order consisting of Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, and David Miller need to be dispatched early, or else India could be in serious trouble. Kuldeep Yadav must take care to prevent that from occurring.

Key Players to Watch in South Africa Team
Anrich Nortje
He has been a major factor in South Africa's success in this competition. The captain handed him the bowl, and he did a good job of it wherever the opposition tried to establish a solid foothold in the match. After witnessing what Rohit Sharma can do in the last two matches, taking his wicket would be South Africa's primary goal in this match. South Africa will rely on Anrich Nortje, who is an expert in this field.
Heinrich Klaasen
Right now, he is probably one of the game's best hitters. He can easily alter how the match plays out. The Indian spinners are benefited from the pitches regardless of the condition. In the middle overs, the Indian spinners have been the best and Heinrich Klassen would be essential to maintaining South Africa's run rate in the face of India's lethal spin attack.
Quinton de Kock
Of course, the top run-scorer for South Africa have a huge role to play in their first-ever final. He averages 44.57, the most in his career, against India. If he gives the Proteas a good start, South Africa might be able to cope better against Indian spinners. He would love that too.
Verdict
The India vs South Africa final is going to be an exciting and competitive match where both teams could win given the option. There is not much differentiating point between the two finalists. However, India is a slight favorite because of their experience in playing finals over the years compared to South Africa, for whom it is the first time in history. This controlling nerve might be the only point between these two where India have an advantage. But for the fans, they should sit tight to witness an epic battle between the two invincibles of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

It’s a repetition of 2022 all over again. For back-to-back editions, the 2nd semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will feature India and England. England would want things to unfold in the exact way it did in 2022 while India would want it to be exactly the opposite.

Preview of Semi-final Match Between India vs England
India appears to be the most well-organized and polished team in the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup tournament. They proceeded to the semi-finals without losing a game and won most of their games commandingly. They dictated their opponents so far and look to be the top favorite to bring the trophy home.

They have so far relied on team performances. Every single player of them had some significant contribution at some point in the game. The concern of skipper Rohit Sharma not being amongst highest run scorers was blown away after an assertive innings of 92 (41) against Australia. Now they are a side that fears nothing and can beat anyone in any situation. They can finally feel that this is the time to end their 11-year drought for an ICC trophy. Additionally, they would also look to take revenge for the last time when England crushed them in the semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
They have so far only one concern which is the form of Virat Kohli. However, the way this team is going, they might not need him to do much either.
England is one of the slow starters of the game. Their campaign so far has been astonishing, to say the least. They were almost on the cusp of going out in the group stage. Yet they not only passed the group stage but also fired in the Super 8 being the first team to ensure their place in the semi-finals. The most important thing for them was that their key players found their feet right in time. Jos Butler scored a fiery 83 against the USA, Phil Salt, and Jonny Bairstow were right on cue against the West Indies. The most important fact is that whoever gets a good start in this team, make sure to get them over the line. As a result, they have only two players in the top 10 run-scorer list and none in the top 10 wicket-takers (as a matter of fact, they are the only Super 8 side besides the USA who doesn’t have a bowler to take 10 wickets) yet they are comfortably sitting in the semi-finals. They will now try to do what they do best and defend the title for Champions of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Probable Lineups of ENG vs IND Semi-final Match
India
Rohit Sharma (Captain), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kuldeep Yadav.
England
Phil Salt, Jos Buttler (Captain), Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, and Reece Topley.
Key Players to Watch in India Team
Rohit Sharma
After a quiet start to the tournament, Rohit Sharma stepped on the gas peddle right at the business end of the tournament after his blistering innings of 92 against Australia. The pitch of Guyana requires teams to utilize the powerplay to put on a good total. As a result, the role of the Indian skipper becomes more crucial. He has a century against England and scores against them at an average of 34.16. India will hope their skipper displays something similar he did against Australia.

Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya is another Indian who brings out his best against England. His most runs and most wickets against an opponent are against England. Hardik Pandya might have been the most influential player for India this time. He also scored 63 off 33 against England last time they faced in the 2022 World Cup semi-final. Hardik Pandya would love to have another massive performance against his favorite opponent this time.
Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav has been key for India by picking up crucial wickets in the middle overs and not letting the opponents settle. He has done his job perfectly and he has to do it once again. Guyana traditionally favors the spinners. England’s middle order consists of dangerous Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Moeen Ali, and Liam Livingstone. If their wickets are not picked up early, India are in big trouble. Kuldeep Yadav needs to make sure that does not happen.
Key Players to Watch in England Team
Adil Rashid
Adil Rashid is the joint most wicket-taker for England. He has been the prime and the most consistent wicket-taker for this England side. As mentioned earlier, Guyana is supposed to favor spinners. Therefore, Adil Rashid will be the bowler to look out for Indian batters.

Jos Buttler
England fans might say “You have Rohit Sharma, we have Jos Buttler” and they would not be wrong. The English skipper also had a slow start but picked up his form at the right time with his 83(39) against the USA. India is also among his favorite opponents. Additionally, he scored 80(49) in that 2nd semi-final of the 2022 World Cup. Therefore, he can give England a brilliant head-start in this game.
Moeen Ali
Moeen Ali might be the most important player for England in this game. He did not have an overwhelming campaign so far but this might just be this game. His off-spin can be vital against a left-handed packed Indian middle-order. Adding to that, he will have an advantage against the spin unit of India, consisting of two left-arm orthodox and one Chinaman, being a left-handed batter himself. Therefore, a lot lies on his shoulders and he has shown previously many times that he can deliver exactly when needed the most.
Verdict
The ICC 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup semi-final match between India and England is supposed to see a neck-and-neck competition given these two team’s profiles. Still, India might just be the slight favorite given their form. However, writing England off is not a wise option either. All the fans care about is that they are in for a blockbuster game.

The Australian side will be led by their veteran all-rounder Mitchell Marsh who played a crucial role in the final of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 which they eventually won. In their squad, they have prioritized experience.
The squad is very much star-studded. Some of them are among the best of the generation. It is always a daunting task to select only 15 players from such a large pool of players as Australia. Yet it seems to be one of the unmatchable ones.
Here, some of the aspects of the Australian squad will be analyzed in which they did brilliantly and in which they might have done slightly better.

Experience
One thing that the selectors have ensured is that there is no shortage of experience in the squad. If you look through the 15-man group, you will see the most familiar names of world cricket. They have been playing for really long and in almost all the franchise leagues of the world. Therefore, it is unlikely that any pressure will crumble them.
Big match performers
This has been the key for Australian cricket throughout history. They have always had some players who shine in the ultimate games that differentiate between the bests and the greats. Players like Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, David Warner, Travis Head, and even skipper Mitchell Marsh have frequently passed the test of these moments and ensured Australia’s victory. This time it is not supposed to be any different either.
Explosive batting line-up
The team is enriched with seasoned players like Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Mitchell Marsh. One can hardly argue the solid batting line up of this squad. These players can single-handedly win matches for their teams as they have done so often. It will not be a surprising thing if they do it again in the current T20 World Cup.
Read more: Analysis of India Squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World 2024
Strike Bowlers
Just like the batters, the names of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Adam Zampa will give you the reassurance for this. They are some of the greatest wicket-taking bowlers of this generation. And having them together makes their bowling the deadliest in this tournamnet.
Given the way the pitches are behaving this T20 World Cup tournamnet, it will not be easy to score big and win against Australia.
Depth in every department
Any of the probable starting XI of Australia will see them having batters till at least 9 and having 7 bowlers. It‘s the volume of the depth this team have. With players like Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, and Tim David who can act as frontline batters and can bowl for 4 overs adds to this depth. Similarly, Pat Cummins and Ashton Agar often add valuable runs late in the order after doing a fantastic job with the bowl. Therefore, at any point, their skipper won’t feel like being short of options which will ease the job for him.

Weakness of Australia Squad for the T20 World Cup 2024
However mighty they look, there is always some weakness in every team. It is not any different for this team as well.
Not including James Fraser-McGurk
It is not like not including him has weakened the side. They still have brilliant batters. However, he has been in tremendous form in the last few months in various franchise leagues. As a result, one might argue that they should have valued his form, explosiveness, and fearlessness over the likes of David Warner and Matthew Wade to add some dynamics to the team.
Lack of Spinners
It looks like a problem after the World Cup started. The pitches are behaving really slow and difficult for the batters to score. In such situation, the spinners thrive.
The options Australia have in this regard, are Adam Zampa, Ashton Agar, and Glenn Maxwell. Among them, Ashton Agar and Glenn Maxwell might not bowl full quota. However, inclusion of an extra spinner could have been a nice weapon for this team.

Key Players for Australian Squad in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024
Travis Head
This cricketer had a brilliant half-year in 2024. With his fiery batting, he provided the team with a foundation for some astounding scores. Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 250+ on three occasions in IPL 2024 and he had scores of 62(24), 102(41), and 89(32). These are only some of the examples of the explosiveness he brings to the side. Australia will rely on this in the whole of the World Cup.
Glenn Maxwell
There is no need to explain more about this all-rounder. His explosiveness is world-known.
He will be particularly important in this T20 World Cup because he is the only spin-bowling all-rounder on the side. Additionally, the batters are supposed to face a lot of spin bowlers against which he is a master.
Read more: Analyzing Bangladesh Squad for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024
Pat Cummins
It might have come as a wonder when the Australian squad was announced and Pat Cummins was not named captain. However, this talented cricketer is expected to play a big role in the team with his bowling. Besides, his leading capabilities can help Mitchell Marsh to guide the team. After winning the ICC Test Championship, ICC ODI World Cup, and leading Sunrisers Hyderabad to the finals as a captain, he is expected to excel in this role.
Adam Zampa
Adam Zampa has been the go-to spin bowler of Australia. He has entered this World Cup with great form as well. In situations, where the pitches are slow and balls are spinning, Adam Zampa is supposed to be the most crucial bowler for Australia this time.
Verdict
Australia is one of the most powerful teams who are favourite in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Despite the lack of spinners, Australia have put up a squad that is a force to reckon with. Given the strength of batters and bowlers they have in the team, they can easily be the champions once again.

T20 World Cup: Bangladesh aims to unleash full potential despite challenges
As Dallas hosts several matches of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, the city's burgeoning cricket scene remains largely unnoticed by many of its residents, including an Ethiopian cab driver who expressed surprise upon learning about the tournament.
The cab driver, who has lived in Dallas for 30 years, was astonished not only to discover that the World Cup was taking place in his city but also that a team from Bangladesh was participating. His reaction is emblematic of a broader unfamiliarity with cricket in the Texan city, despite serving as a key venue for the event.
Catherine, a rideshare driver who introduced herself only by her first name, also knew little about the World Cup. She remarked that she had a vague understanding of cricket, likening it to baseball and noting that it involved a “sort of flat bat.”

Dallas is quickly emerging as a hub for cricket in the USA, driven by a favorable climate and a significant South Asian diaspora passionate about the sport. This positive environment is fostering the sport's growth across the country. However, for many residents like the Ethiopian cab driver and Catherine, cricket remains relatively unknown. Both were unable to pinpoint the exact location of the stadium that is becoming a focal point for cricket in the USA.
Amidst this growing but still nascent awareness, the Bangladesh team arrived in Dallas with the aim of regaining some pride after a demoralizing series defeat against the USA. Their World Cup campaign is set to begin on June 8th at 6:30 am (Bangladesh time).
On June 5th, the Bangladesh team practiced at a facility adjacent to the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium, which can accommodate 7,000 fans. However, the practice area, still seemingly under development, posed challenges for the team's fast bowlers—Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib—who struggled to find sufficient space for their full run-ups.
The difficulties faced by Taskin and his fellow pacers highlighted a sense of underpreparedness as their World Cup campaign approached.
Venue Guide: Stadiums of ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024
Despite having two warm-up matches scheduled before the main event, the team's preparations were hampered. Their first warm-up match ended in a heavy defeat to India, offering a chance to assess their weaknesses. The second warm-up match against the USA was abandoned due to inclement weather, further disrupting their preparation.
Afif Hossain, a left-handed batter traveling with the Bangladesh team as a standby player, hesitated when asked about the quality of the practice facilities. His reluctant “yes” suggested the facilities were less than ideal for preparing for a major tournament.
On a positive note, Taskin Ahmed, the team's key pace bowler, resumed bowling at full strength on Wednesday, providing a boost for the team. Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, Bangladesh's chief selector, expressed optimism about the team's prospects in the World Cup.
“Injury was a big concern for us even before we came to the USA,” he acknowledged during a media interaction in Dallas. “Now Shoriful (Islam) needed six stitches, which is a new concern. We need more time to assess his recovery. But the good news is that Taskin is expected to play against Sri Lanka on June 7th if there are no further setbacks.”

Analysis of Sri Lanka Squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024
The Sri Lankan squad is star-studded with some of the big names of World T20 currently. It consists of a solid bunch of players who can win games single-handedly on their day. However, this team has some definitive strengths and weaknesses which are discussed here.
Strengths Of Sri Lanka Squad
Strong bowling unit
This Sri Lankan squad carries a strong bowling unit. Their skipper Wanindu Hasaranga holds the second position in the ICC Men’s T20I Bowling Ranking currently. Strike bowler Maheesh Theekshana occupies the 4th position in the same list.
Apart from that Nuwan Thushara and Matheesha Pathirana can rattle any batting line-up with their fiery toe-crushers. Allrounders Dhananjaya De Silva and Angelo Mathews can bowl pivotal overs. Dasun Shanaka is still their go-to death-over bowler, especially in close encounters. Scoring against this bowling line-up won’t be easy at all. Sri Lanka must capitalize on these assets they have.
Read more: Fixtures of Bangladesh Team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024
Variety of All-rounders
The Sri Lankan squad has an abundance of genuine all-rounders who can equally contribute with both bat and ball. Angelo Mathews and Dasun Shanaka are effective medium pacers. Wanindu Hasaranga is one of the best bowlers and Dhanajaya De Silva works as a trump card as well. And all of these players play crucial roles for the team with the bat. This increased the depth and efficiency of the side which is one of their greatest strengths without a doubt.
Drawbacks Of Sri Lanka Squad
Lack of Depth in Batting
Sri Lanka have an explosive and fiery top order with batters like Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Pathum Nissanka, and Charith Asalanka. However, one problem they consistently face is their batting in the middle overs. It happens because their lower-middle order often fails to chip in. This overreliance on the top order might hurt them in the current World Cup campaign.
Non-performing Veterans
Angelo Mathews and Dasun Shanaka have a combined 184 T20Is under their belt. This kind of experience is priceless for any team. However, Sri Lanka could not generate enough return from them because of their less contribution. Dasun Shanaka only scored 139 runs in his last 10 innings averaging only around 17. His 6 wickets still cover that up.
Read more: Stars who can be game-changers for Bangladesh in T20 World Cup
However, Angelo Mathews had a decent year with the bat averaging 29.43 while scoring 206 runs. Yet the quality of opponents indicates that these numbers could have been better. With the experience these two bring, they have much more to contribute and if they don’t, it is unfortunate for Sri Lanka.
Key Players to Watch in Sri Lanka Squad
Wanindu Hasaranga
The current best all-rounder in the world, 2nd best bowler in the T20I format, and the 2nd highest wicket-taker ever for Sri Lanka to date. The remarks are enough to explain the importance of this team. If Sri Lanka is to succeed in this World Cup, this skipper will have to play the most pivotal role in that.
Maheesh Theekshana
Maheesh Theekshana is one of the most in-form bowlers in the world. He is the current no.4 ranked bowler in T20I format and a key figure in the Sri Lankan bowling line-up. He has 10 wickets in the last 8 games. Sri Lanka needs someone to complement Wanindu Hasaranga and have the right man for it in Maheesh Theekshana. Now it has to be his time to shine.
Read more: Analyzing Bangladesh Squad for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024
Angelo Mathews
He is the most experienced and seasoned campaigner on this team. He is in great form this year. He is also among the all-time greatest for Sri Lanka in the shortest version of the game. Apart from that, he is the only player in this squad who was there when Sri Lanka won the trophy in 2014. His team needs that experience now more than ever.
Kusal Mendis
Kusal Mendis is the 3rd highest run-scorer ever for Sri Lanka and has a good chance of becoming 2nd. He is in great form this year being Sri Lanka’s top scorer scoring at an average of 30+ with 2 half-centuries. The tone of the innings for Sri Lanka is often set by him and he needs to do it this time as well.
Conclusion
In the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka is drawn in the “group of death” with Bangladesh, South Africa, Netherlands, and Nepal. They have a difficult job in hand but also have enough resources to tackle the competitors. If team Sri Lanka can mitigate their weaknesses, they might have a serious go for the title.

Analysis of the Bangladesh Squad for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024
Bangladesh have been quite late to announce the squad compared to the other teams. It implies that the selectors had some doubts over 2-3 players for this time.
Bangladesh would be very dependent on the bowling unit this time as they are the most in-form department in the team. Taskin Ahmed, with his new vice-captain duty, is supposed to lead the attack along with Shoriful Islam and Mustafizur Rahman. The inclusion of Tanzim Hasan gives new dynamics to the pace attack. It is reported that there was a competition between him and Mohammad Saifuddin in the team for a spot. However, the long break from international cricket and the last game against Zimbabwe didn’t help Saifuddin’s cause for breaking into the World Cup squad this time.
The spin attack would be led by Shakib Al Hasan who showed his guile in the last two games against Zimbabwe. Along with him Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, and Tanvir Islam were selected making the most dynamic spin attack Bangladesh ever had. This unit comprises all of the Left-arm orthodox, Right-arm off-spinner, and Right-arm leg-spinner. Mahmudullah Riyad can do a good job as a part-timer too.
As the top order is not very dependable, the Bangladesh team would mostly depend on the middle order for runs. This unit consists of the vast experience of Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad. At the same time, it consists of fresh bloods like Tawhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali Anik. It makes an interesting combination of the calm and bold batters for a middle-order.
The top-order is the most worrisome part in this squad with batters misfiring quite often. Tanzid Tamim has scored two half-centuries in his first 5 matches which is a breath of fresh air. But Litton Das, Soumya Sarkar, and skipper Nazmul Hossain Shanto are struggling for runs. This is especially concerning considering Litton and Shanto were the best performers from Bangladesh’s last ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Key Players for Bangladesh Squad
Shakib Al Hasan
Shakib Al Hasan will always be the most important player for Bangladesh cricket as long as he stays. He is the highest wicket-taker and 8th-highest run-scorer in the history of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He has been the most key player for Bangladesh whenever the team plays and he will be this time sure. Although his batting is a concern, fans can hope for him to figure it out.
Mahmudullah Riyad
A rejuvenated Mahmudullah Riyad will be the key player to hold the batting unit together this time. He is one of the most in-form batters for Bangladesh right now scoring two half-centuries this year with an average of 71.5. He has reshaped the middle-order for the Bangladesh team and the team will expect him to play a big role this time.
Taskin Ahmed
The new vice-captain of Bangladesh cricket will lead the bowling attack, especially the pace attack of the team. He was the player of the series in Bangladesh’s recent series against Zimbabwe where he picked 8 wickets. He has an injury problem which might see him on the sidelines for some games. But whenever he is on the field, he is the biggest asset for the team.
Nazmul Hossain Shanto
The misfiring skipper has a huge role of leading the team from the front. He could only score 81 runs in the series against Zimbabwe which is not a good sign. However, Bangladesh won two games in the last ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Shanto scored 71(55) and 25(20) in those games. Also, he scored half-centuries in both the wins of Bangladesh at the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. It shows that he has to play a big role for Bangladesh to win. This time is not supposed to be any different either.

Verdict
Bangladesh have picked up a quite dynamic bowling unit for both the pace and spin department. They have a good combination of youth and experience in the middle order as well. However, the top order does not convince most of the fans. It would be interesting to see how far the Tigers go being in the group of the death in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
