The AHF Cup champions  Bangladesh finished runners-up in the nine-nation Asian Games Men's Hockey Qualifier with a 2-6 goals defeat against their old foe Oman in the final at Queen Sirkit Commemorative Stadium in Bangkok Sunday afternoon  Both Bangladesh and Oman earlier qualified for the Asian Games Hockey'2022 main battle as the top six teams of the ongoing qualifying round are entitled to play in the Asian Games Hockey.  With the day's well merited victory, Oman not only clinched the long cherished  title, but also took revenge of their two consecutive defeats against Bangladesh in the nine-nation AHF Cup Hockey held  in Jakarta two month ago. Also read: Asian Games Hockey Qualifier : Bangladesh reach final beating Thailand 4-1 Earlier in March 20 this year, Bangladesh clinched the nine-nation Men's Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Cup title for the 4th times in a row with all-win record beating upper ranked Oman twice in the final and in the group match in Indonesia. Bangladesh emerged as AHF Cup  champions beating Oman by 5-3 goals in penalty shoot out as the final match between two teams was locked in  1-1 draw in stipulated period. Bangladesh also beat Oman by 3-2 goals in the AHF Cup  group match. In the day's final, Oman took lead by 3-0 in the first nine minutes surprising Bangladesh and the frustrated Bangladesh never recovered  from their early lapses. Shaaibi Ammaar put Oman ahead in the very 3rd minute of the match from a penalty corner (1-0), Al Lawati Fahad doubled the margin in the 7th minute by a field goal (2-0) and Al Saadi Salah scored  the 3rd goals for Oman in the 9th minute (3-0). After a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, inspired Oman maintained their strong pressure over their traditional rivals Bangladesh and sounded their margin again as Al Qasmi Asaad Mubarak scoring the 4th goal in the 33rd minute (4-0). Ashraful Islam of Bangladesh reduced the margin in the 47th minute from a penalty corner (4-1).. Fazari Rashad and Al Shibli Asama scored two more field goals for Oman in the 50th and, 58th minutes respectively (6-1). Fazle Hossain Rabby scored the 2nd goal for Bangladesh just one minute before the match over (6-2). As the Asian Games qualifier concluded today (Sunday),, the Bangladesh team led by new captain Khorshedur Rahman will  travel to Indonesia directly from Thailand to compete in the Men's Asia Cup Hockey to be held in Jakarta from May 23 to June 1. In the eight- nation Hero Men's Asia Cup Hockey, Bangladesh team also been placed in Pool B with Malaysia, Korea and Oman. Bangladesh will face Korea on May 23, Oman on May 24 and Malaysia on May 26.

Bangladesh National Hockey team will start their campaign in the nine-nation Men's Asian Games Qualifiers taking on Indonesia in the Thai capital Bangkok on Saturday. The match will kick-off at 10 am local time and 11 am Bangladesh time. The Men's Asian Games Hockey Qualifier already began in Bangkok on Friday despite the Asian Games Authority postponed the Hangzhou Asian Games indefinitely amid a recent surge in Covid-19 cases in China, the host country of the  games. The Hangzhou Asian Games scheduled for September 10-25 this year in China. Bangladesh team, which reached Bangkok on Thursday to compete in the Asian Games Qualifiers scheduled May 6-15, made their first practice session the same day (Thursday) and made another one and half hour long practices Friday morning. Earlier, Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) announced an 18-member final national squad to compete in both the Asian Games Qualifiers and the Men's Asia Cup Hockey, also naming two stand-by players. BHF named also two separate captains for two tournaments keeping the same squad intact. Rezaul Karim Babu will lead the Bangladesh team in the Asian Games Hockey Qualifier scheduled for May 6-15 in Bangkok while Khorshedur Rahman will captain the Bangladesh team in the Men's a Asia Cup Hockey in Jakarta from May 23 to June 1. Iman Gobinathan Krishnamurthy of Malaysia named as the head coach,  Zahirul Islam Mitul as assistant coach and Mohammad  Rafiul Haque as team leader of Bangladesh for both the tournaments.. In the eight- nation Hero Men's Asia Cup Hockey, Bangladesh team also been placed in Pool B with Malaysia, Korea and Oman. Bangladesh will face Korea on May 23, Oman on May 24 and Malaysia on May 26. Earlier, Bangladesh qualified for the Men’s Asia Cup as they clinched the fourth consecutive title of the Men’s AHF Cup last month.
