After string of blockbusters, Mim envisions another ‘sold out’ experience with ‘Damal’
Bidya Sinha Mim has, of late, established herself as one of the most successful and busiest actresses in the Bangladeshi film industry.
Although Mim has multiple commercially successful films to her name, she has earned special accolades from moviegoers for her brilliant performance in the film ‘Poran'.
On Friday, the popular actress is appearing on the big screen yet again with her new film ‘Damal', another Raihan Rafi directorial, based on the story of the Swadhin Bangla Football Team.
Written by eminent cultural personality Faridur Reza Sagar, ‘Damal’ is showcasing an ensemble cast of acclaimed artistes, including Siam Ahmed, Shariful Razz, Intekhab Dinar and Shahnaz Sumi, alongside the female lead Mim.
While speaking to UNB, Mim, visibly excited about her new film, shared her journey with ‘Damal’ and said that each new movie adds a different experience to her portfolio.
“My newest film ‘Damal’ portrays the story of a football team during the Liberation War of Bangladesh, and I appeared as a simple yet flamboyant village girl named Hasna. The experience was challenging like my every other film, and the audience will be the one to demonstrate whether my efforts were praiseworthy or not,” Mim said.
Speaking on ‘Poran’s overwhelming response, Mim said that she thinks the movie has brought her closer to the audience.

“The unbelievable amount of praise I received for ‘Poran’ from our beloved audience, has inspired me and increased my courage. The experience of houseful shows and ‘sold-out’ responses were totally new experiences.
“People even called me for the tickets of both ‘Poran’ and now ‘Damal,’ and these are really noteworthy for me as an actress, and I would request the audience to buy tickets in advance as tickets may run out this time as well,” Mim said.
About Damal, Mim said that the film will continue proving the fact that the current filmmakers are thinking differently and bringing a refreshingly new era to the country’s cinema industry.
Advance ticket sale of Damal has begun at many places in the country, including Dhaka. The number of regular shows has also increased in multiplexes.
Produced by Impress Telefilms, ‘Damal’ will be showcased on single screens and multiplexes across the country. All five branches of Star Cineplex in the capital are scheduled to run 16 shows on the first day, while a total of 17 shows are slated from second day onwards.

Mim, Razz want to watch ‘Poran’ with elderly person denied entry to Cineplex for ‘lungi’
Poran lead actors Bidya Sinha Saha Mim Sariful Razz shared posts on their respective Facebook profiles expressing their desire to watch the film with the elderly person who was denied ticket at Star Cineplex’s Sony Square branch at Mirpur for wearing ‘lungi’.
“Can anyone find this elderly father? Please mange his phone number or address and inbox it only. I will watch the film with him and chat like father-daughter. He will watch the film with our Poran team wearing lungi,” Mim wrote in her post.
Sariful Razz also shared a similar post on his Facebook in search of the unidentified man expressing his dismay.
The incident of an elderly person with grey beard wearing lungi denied entry to Star Cineplex’s Sony Square branch at Mirpur for his informal attire has created quite a stir among netizens after it was shared on social media on Wednesday.
The film fraternity widely criticized the approach of the authorities as a staff at the counter denied to sell him a ticket to watch recently released film Poran directed by Raihan Rafi.

However, the Star Cineplex authorities apologized for the incident and called it result of an unfortunate misunderstanding.
“We would like to clarify Star Cineplex does not discriminate against customers based on anything, least of all a person’s attire. No such policies exist at our organisation that would deny a person the right to purchase a ticket because of them choosing to wear a lungi. We want to emphasise everyone is welcome to experience their favourite movies at our cinema halls,” they wrote in their Facebook page on Thursday.
The Star Cineplex authorities also invited the elderly person and his family at their Sony Square branch to watch Poran.
Besides, they said they are investigating this incident and promised to ensure no such misunderstandings take place in the future.

Three films to enthral moviegoers on Eid-ul-Adha
The Eid celebration brings extra excitement to the moviegoers, who expect to experience a different type of amusement through new movies across the years. Although producers keep their bird's eye vision on releasing new Eid films, the 2022 Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated with three new films.
This year's Eid movies have intrigued both optimism and frustration among the audiences and the hall-owners, due to the absence of the Dhallywood Superstar Shakib Khan’s new movie. Other superstars, including Arifin Shuvoo and Siam Ahmed, do not have any new films for this Eid.
That being said, superstar Ananta Jalil has cashed in the spotlight for this Eid, coming after eight-year-long hiatus with his big-budget and one of the most anticipated films in recent times 'Din The Day,' set to be released on Eid day.

Alongside the Bangladesh-Iran joint production, two other films - Anonno Mamun directed ‘Psycho’ starring Roshan-Puja Cherry, and Raihan Rafi directed much-hyped ‘Poran’ starring Bidya Sinha Mim, Yash Rohan and Sariful Razz, which is allegedly based on the infamous Rifat-Minni story that shook the nation to its core - are set to be enthralling the Eid moviegoers.
'Din The Day,' directed by Iranian producer Murtaza Otash Jamjam, is leading the promotional race for the last couple of days among these three films. With actor and producer Ananta Jalil and Barsha in the lead roles, 'Day the Day' has been made at a cost of more than 100 Crore Tk as a joint production of Bangladesh and Iran.Regarding his much-anticipated release, Ananta said, ‘Our beloved audiences have been waiting for this movie for such a long time. I promise - at the end of the day, everyone will like the film and remember the experience.”

With Roshan being her co-star in Anonno Mamun directed film 'Psycho,' Puja and the rest of the team believe that the audience will love the movie, produced by RBS Entertainment and Celebrity Productions.
Based on the infamous Rifat murder case in Bogra, ‘Poran’ is the other much-hyped movie of this Eid, directed by Raihan Rafi. With an ensemble cast featuring Shariful Razz, Bidya Sinha Mim and Yash Rohan in the lead roles, the team is highly optimistic about the release after being stuck for the past two years due to COVID-19.Besides these three films, Shakib Khan’s 'Golui' and 'Bidrohi', which were released on Eid-ul-Fitr, are set to be released in more than 20 theatres this Eid as well, for the fans who missed the opportunity to watch these films on Eid-ul-Fitr.
