No respite from heat wave for 4/5 days
The mild to moderate heat wave sweeping parts of the country is likely to continue for next four to five days, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Thursday (June 01, 2023).
“Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Sylhet divisions and Chattogram, Rangamati, Cumilla, Chandpur, Noakhali & Feni districts and it may continue,” said a bulletin of BMD.
Weather may remain mainly dry with the temporary partly cloudy sky over the country, having chances of light rain or thundershowers at one or two places over Dhaka, Barishal, Sylhet and Chattogram divisions, it said.

Day temperature may rise slightly in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and it may remain nearly unchanged elsewhere the country.
Night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country in 24 hours starting from 9 am on Thursday.
The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 24 degrees Celsius in Rangamati and Bandarban on Thursday and the highest temperature was recorded at 40 degrees Celsius in Syedpur on Wednesday.

Dhaka commuters suffer amid heavy traffic gridlock after light rain
Commuters in Dhaka remained stuck for hours in unusual traffic jam on Sunday morning after light rain lashed the capital.
Commuters who usually use Abdullahpur-Khilkhet and Airport-Mohakhali roads are the worst sufferers .
Students and office-goers suffered immensely due to traffic chaos at several points in Dhaka, including Tongi, Uttara, Airport, Mohakhali, Bijoy Sarani and Bangla Motor areas. Vehicles were seen stranded for hours on these roads in the morning.

Apart from the rain, VVIP movement and construction work of a foot over bridge in front of Jamuna Future Park in the city caused the traffic gridlock, a senior traffic officer (north division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) told UNB preferring anonymity.
He said they are working to ease the traffic movement .
Shakawat Hossain Shipon, a private service holder, said he went out of his Gazipur residence to go to Noakhali in the early morning but could not reach Abdullahpur bus stand even after around two and a half hours.
“I don’t know when I will be able to reach home as vehicles remained stranded on the road for hours,” he said.
Like him, many commuters suffered immensely on gridlocked roads today.

Drizzle likely in Dhaka, other parts of country
The weather department has predicted light rains in parts of the country in 24 hours commencing 9am on Tuesday.
“Light rain or drizzle is likely at one or two places in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions,” Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in its bulletin.
Weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, it added.
Besides, moderate to thick fog may occur at places over the river basins and light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere over the country during late night till morning.
Night temperature may remain nearly unchanged and day temperature may fall slightly over the country, it added.

Night temperature may fall slightly over the country. Day temperature may rise slightly over the northern part and it may slightly fall elsewhere over the country, the bulletin added.

According to the Met office, a trough of westerly low lies over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & adjoining area. Seasonal low lies over South Bay, extending its trough to North-west Bay.
Meanwhile, the country's lowest temperature was recorded at 11°C in Tetulia of Rangpur division in the last 24hrs, it added.

Mild cold wave sweeps four districts
Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon and Kurigram districts are in the grip of a mild cold wave, weather officials said on Thursday.
The cold conditions may continue in these districts, according to the regular bulletin of Bangladesh Metrological Department.

Besides, light rain may occur at a couple of places in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, while the weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.

Night and day temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

Trough of westerly low lies over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining areas. Ridge of sub-continental high extends up to West Bengal and adjoining areas Seasonal low lies over South Bay, said the Met office.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 9.3 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi district while the maximum was at 28.6 degrees in Teknaf of Chattogram, according to the bulletin.

Be ready for light rain & fog
Cold January may turn colder, with the weather department predicting light rain and fog in parts of Bangladesh over the next two-three days.
"Rains or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely to occur at a few places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places in Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions,” said the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
