As many as 100 saltwater crocodiles have been released in the Sundarbans marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The saltwater crocodiles were released on Wednesday in various rivers and canals in four ranges of the Sundarbans. Read:Sundarbans tourism: Now focus on automation to improve services Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Begum Habibun Nahar inaugurated the program by releasing crocodiles in the canal adjacent to the Karamjal Wildlife Breeding Center in the Sundarbans. Muhammad Belayet Hossain, Divisional Forest Officer of Sundarbans East Division, the released saltwater crocodiles were born at different times in the Karamjal Crocodile breeding center in the Sundarbans. The Forest Department established the Crocodile Breeding Center at Karamjal in the Sundarbans in 2000 for the purpose of breeding and conservation of almost extinct saltwater crocodiles in the country with two crocodiles named Romeo and Juliet. Read: Red tapes are holding back the much-hyped Sundarbans conservation project Earlier, more than a hundred crocodiles born in breeding centers at different times were released in the Sundarbans. At present, there are 94 crocodiles of different ages in the breeding center, according to the forest department. Chief Conservator of Forests Amir Hossain Chowdhury and Conservator of Forests of Khulna Region Mihir Kumar Do were present among others at the event.

Traffic on various important and main roads of the capital will be controlled and remain closed for some time on March 26 and 27, the Traffic Department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said on Wednesday. It said the step has been taken to facilitate the movement of invited foreign guests and the VVIPs on the occasion of Bangabandhu's birth centenary and Golden Jubilee of Independence. Meanwhile, Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Srilankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Nepalese President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering have already joined the celebration of the two mega events. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Bangladesh on March 26 to attend the twin celebrations of Mujib Borsho and the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence. He will also visit Bangabandhu Memorial in Tungipara, Matua community in Kashiani, and a temple in Satkhira on March 27 before holding a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Bangladesh is looking for better connectivity and expansion in relations with the five neighbours whose heads of government are visiting the country to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of independence and the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
