BAN vs ENG T20 Series 2023: Bangladesh's historic records you need to know
The Tigers swept England in the T20 series, showing their strength, while they failed in the ODI series. Nevertheless, Bangladesh was strongest in ODI, and fans had an expectation to win the one-day series. Last November, England secured the T20 World Cup title in Australia, firmly establishing their reputation as a formidable opponent in this format of cricket. Despite this, Bangladesh was able to whitewash England in the 2023 BAN vs ENG T20 series, leaving the question if anyone had predicted such an outcome prior to the start of the series.
Overall Performance of Bangladesh Team in T20 Series Against England
After losing the first two T20 matches, England tried hard in the third match to avoid the whitewash. And England had been performing well until the fourteenth over.. David Malan was caught behind the wicket after being unable to handle Mustafiz's outswing and extra bounce, earning Mustafiz his hundredth wicket in a T20 International match. This signaled the start of England's downfall, as Jos Buttler was run out on the very next ball. The first two balls of the 14th over had the audience on the edge of their seats, turning the T20 into an intense and suspenseful thriller.
At the end of 13 overs, with England needing 159 runs to win and being 100/1, who could have predicted that their dream of victory would fall down at 142/6? Did the world champions sense their world would soon become gray as five wickets fell for 28 runs in five overs, sending their required run rate rocketing from 8 to 12 per over? Malan and Buttler's partnership of 95 runs for the second wicket kept England's hopes of avoiding a washout alive as long as they stayed at the crease. However, Mustafiz's intervention caused England's innings to smash.

Bangladesh scored 158 runs in 20 overs, losing only two wickets, thanks to Litton Das's ninth T20 fifty and an impressive partnership of 84 runs between Litton and Najmul Hossain Shanto for the second wicket. There is no doubt that Litton and Najmul Hossain formed the cornerstone of the Bangladesh innings, with Litton scoring his first fifty of the series with 73 runs off 57 balls. His performance earned him the award of the Player of the Match. Najmul Hossain was also successful, registering the series-best performance of 144 runs in three matches with an unbeaten 47 off 36 balls. Najmul Hossain Shanto won the Player of the Series award.
Previously, Shakib’s team started the T20 series against England with a win at Chittagong. After winning the toss at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, Shakib Al Hasan chose to bowl first. The opening pair of Philip Salt and captain Jos Buttler made a promising start, putting together 80 runs. Nasum Amed's efforts in the tenth over proved to be Bangladesh's first success as he picked Philip Salt’s wicket for 38 runs off 35 balls in the last ball of the over. Dawid Malan, who had been in impressive form in the ODI series, unfortunately, got out for a duck, being dismissed by Najmul Hasan Shanto off a ball from Shakib. Mustafizur then bowled Duckett for 20 runs off 13 balls. England collected 156 runs.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh's opening batsman Rony Talukdar managed 21 runs from 14 balls. Nevertheless, the home team's innings were put in a difficult situation, as they had lost two wickets for only 43 runs. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy then assumed control of the team, forming a formidable third-wicket partnership. Shanto boosted Bangladesh's innings with a personal tally of 51 runs from 30 balls, featuring 8 fours. Towhid, meanwhile, provided the only six of the innings, scoring 24 runs from 17 balls, including 2 fours and 1 six. Bangladesh suddenly went from 108 for 2 wickets to 112 for 4 wickets and was under some pressure again. This time the captain came as a savior. Shakib remained not out with 34 runs off 24 balls with 6 fours, while Afif Hossain scored 15 runs off 13 balls alongside Shakib.
Bangladesh’s performance was also great in the second T20I match in Dhaka. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and decided to bowl at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium. England could not stand in front of the bowling attack of Bangladesh. Jos Buttler's team was all out for 117 runs in 20 overs. Ben Duckett scored the highest 28 runs. Mehdy Hasan Miraz took 4 wickets for Bangladesh. With 11 balls to spare, Bangladesh managed to chase down the 118-run target on a slow-turner wicket, losing six wickets in the process. Shakib won the toss in Mirpur and chose to bowl, just as he did in Chittagong. To replace the batsman Shamim Hossain, the starting XI was boosted with the inclusion of spin all-rounder Mehdy Hasan Miraz. His contribution proved significant, as he managed to bowl the English side out for 117 on the last ball of his bowling. Jos Buttler's England was unable to withstand Miraz's combination of batting and bowling.
England, however, got off to a good start. The second wicket was lost by exactly 50 runs. Then Miraz started pushing. One by one, he took Moeen Ali (15), Sam Curran (12) and Chris Woakes (0), and Chris Jordan’s (3) wickets. Earlier, opener Phil Salt scored 25 runs and returned to Shakib's ball. Jos Buttler (4) was bowled by Hasan Mahmood. Ben Duckett, who got out in the last over, scored 28 runs off 28 balls for the team.

The Fast Bowlers Were Great
At 24 years of age, Hasan Mahmood's Yorker to Jos Buttler should be incredibly hard for any batter to stay on the field. The Bangladesh Bowler was the star of the first match, showing he could handle himself in front of a hard hitter such as Buttler. Hasan has now taken the wicket of Jos in two consecutive matches. He only gave away four runs in his first over.

But Bangladesh got a good start in the T20 series with a win in the first match in Chittagong. Now the team will play their second match in Dhaka on Sunday. Considering England as a strong team, Bangladesh has made some significant changes in the T20 team. Apparently, coach Chandika Hathurusingha begins his T20 world journey with this series. So, the Bangladesh team will make some shuffle or add moves based on this series and upcoming series. This T20 squad has been built mainly on the basis of BPL performance. Three Batters – Rony Talukdar, Towhid Hridoy, Shamim Hossain; Pacer Rejaur Rahman Raja and left-arm spinner Tanvir Ahmed played well in the BPL and made it to the national team.
On the other hand, England's T20I team features Ben Duckett and Chris Jordan to boost their firepower, yet Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Alex Hales, and Liam Livingstone are absent, causing Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha to refer to it as an "experimental" squad.
The English team will expect a good performance from Phil Salt, Jos Buttler, and Ben Duckett, as they had a good performance in the first match. However, Dawid Malan may also come to the limelight in the second T20 as he is familiar with the Mirpur field.

Key Players for Bangladesh Team
After an eight-year absence, Rony Talukdar made his return to international cricket. This is an extraordinary comeback for Rony, where a player's career is usually over after being dropped from the team. In 2016, England triumphed over Bangladesh in a three-match ODI series held in Dhaka and Chittagong. Despite losing a match in Dhaka, Bangladesh put up a valiant effort in Chittagong in 2016, but ultimately, England won the series with a 4-wicket victory in the last match. On the other hand, Bangladesh already lost the 2023 series before their third match in Chittagong on March 6.
Bangladesh will aim to avoid a whitewash in Tamim Iqbal’s hometown tomorrow. However, England will want to give that opportunity to Bangladesh at any cost, as we have seen their performance in the last match. The third and final ODI of the BAN vs ENG series 2023 will start at 12 noon on Monday (March 06, 2023) at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.

While Engldoesn’tsn’t have any pressure on their shoulder, Bangladesh will surely take the pressure to win the last match. At least a win can be a consolation for the team as well as the fans.
Bangladesh don’t have any major changes in the team except for removing Shamim Hossain Patwari from the team. Shamim got a chance in the team on the evening before the second ODI against England. But he did not get a chance to play the match. However, the 22-year-old left-handed batsman is still on the team. England, on the other hand, seems to continue with their current playing XI.
There were roughly two types of wickets in Mirpur in the first two matches of the Bangladesh and England ODI series. The first match saw the familiar form of Mirpur - slow, turning, uneven bounce wickets. In the second, it was much more batting-friendly. And England has adapted better than Bangladesh with both types of wickets.
According to the condition and situation, Dawid Malan and Jason Roy scored two centuries and became the man of the match. On the other hand, in front of the English bowlers, Bangladeshi batsmen seemed to be foreigners on their own ground.

While all the England players got their expected performance, Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman seems to be dim in this series. Not only the first two matches of the England series but Mustafiz has also been lost in ODIs for quite some time.
But, no other Bangladeshi bowler has bowled as many overs (100.2) as him and has such a low economy rate (4.61) in the last year. Tomorrow will be Mustafiz’s another chance to do something for the country.

Preview of BAN vs ENG 2nd ODI 2023
The Bangladesh squad were defeated in the opening ODI of the three-match series against England and are hoping to level the series by winning the second game. Tamim Iqbal's team is facing the English on Friday, March 3. The match will start at 12 noon Bangladesh time at Mirpur Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Let's take a look at the match preview, changes in the team, and probable players list of the 2023 BAN vs ENG 2nd ODI match.
Preview of 2nd ODI Match of Bangladesh vs England Series 2023
Bangladesh cricket team is unbeaten in seven consecutive series at home ground. So, the Tigers have no other option except to win in the second ODI to continue that streak. That is why it was essential to win the first two matches in order to guarantee the series.. Earlier in 2016, Bangladesh got the taste of defeat in the last bilateral series at home to England. After that, the Tigers won seven ODI series in a row.
However, Bangladesh’s beginning was not good. Bangladesh got a good start after winning the toss and batting in the first ODI. But without Najmul Hossain Shanto, other batsmen could not help much with the bat. Bangladesh lost all wickets lost in 47.2 overs and stopped at just 209 runs. Still, the team saw the dream of winning in Taijul, Miraz, and Shakib’s spin action. But Dawid Malan's brilliant century lead England to a three-wicket win.

England performed brilliantly in the first ODI according to their plan. England played a different plan on a wicket where India-Sri Lanka found it difficult. Clearly, David Malan's experience of playing in the Dhaka League and BPL for six consecutive years has come in handy. In addition to that, England's bowlers also played a big role with the ball.
However, experienced Bangladeshi players for the Mirpur pitch could not impact. For example, Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan are more experienced in this pitch. But they failed to live up to expectations. When they were both dismissed while attempting to slog spinners in the middle overs, the rest of Bangladesh's batting line-up had to readjust their strategy. Najmul Hossain Shanto was unable to capitalize on his first ODI fifty, and Mahmudullah was out playing cautiously.
On the other hand, except for Malan’s knock, England did not have any significant achievements. Therefore, England will seek to boost their batting following Malan's substantial performance, while Bangladesh requires their batsmen to make the most of the beginning of their innings. The bowling from both sides was exemplary. Taskin Ahmed and the Bangladesh spinners gave it their all. Despite their efforts, the final three wickets escaped England, yet they successfully kept the opposition to a modest total.

Mustafiz’s magic is not working in Dhaka's pitch lately. So, Ebadot Hossain or Hasan Mahmud can be an alternative to Mustafiz in the second ODI.
England did not keep Sam Curran, Saqib Mahmood, Rehan Ahmed and Reece Topley in the first match. It appears unlikely that Rehan will play due to his illness, but the team is predicted to rotate their players throughout the tour.
No other team has been able to beat Bangladesh in a home series since 2015, and England is hoping to be the one to do so. If they can win tomorrow's match, they will be the only team to twice win a bilateral ODI series in Bangladesh since 2015.
Change in Bangladesh Team
Just before the second ODI against England, there was a sudden addition to the Bangladesh ODI team. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) suddenly added Shamim Hossain Patwari to the team 18 hours before the match. This 22-year-old cricketer was brought in as a substitute fielder due to the probable injury of one cricketer.

Shamim, who has played 10 T20s for Bangladesh, has been called up to the first ODI team. Earlier, Shamim was also included in the first two T20 teams against the English. The second one-day team now has 15 members. The team for the third ODI has not been announced yet.
However, Shamim’s performance was not very good in the last Dhaka Premier League, the domestic edition of the 50-over edition. He scored 285 runs at an average of 31.66 with 1 century and a fifty in 11 innings. But his main area of strength, the quick runs, was reflected in his strike rate (103.63).
But, the Chief Selector, Minhajul Abedin Nannu, explained to bdnews24.com that his batting was not a factor in Shamim’s selection to the team. Since there is a little concern about one team member's injury, Shamim may start as an extra fielder to help. As a fielder, however, Shamim has attracted attention in different ways. He has earned a reputation as one of the most talented fielders in the country.

Pitch and conditions
The team winning the toss might decide to bowl first due to the dew. This wouldn't be the worst choice in Dhaka, as the ball will still have a bit of unpredictable bounce and spin in the daytime. Fortunately, the weather is still dry, although it is becoming increasingly warm.
Final Words
Bangladesh-England has played a total of 22 matches against each other in one-day cricket. The English have succeeded overwhelmingly, winning a total of 18 matches, while Bangladesh have only achieved success in four.
After a disappointing performance in the first game, Bangladesh is in a do-or-die situation at the Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on March 3. Bangladesh will have to win the second ODI of the BAN vs ENG series 2023 in order to stay in contention. England, on the other hand, is looking to secure the series.

Analysis of Bangladesh vs England 1st ODI 2023
Bangladesh and England met in Dhaka's Mirpur on Wednesday. Bangladesh won the toss and choose to bat in this day-night match. Bangladesh batsmen scored 209 runs by batting at the beginning. In reply, England secured victory with eight balls in hand.
Bangladesh’s Senior Batsmen Failed to Collect Big Score
Bangladesh’s batting was not up to the mark at Mirpur Sher Bangla Stadium. The host batsmen could not make any impact against the English bowlers. Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid, in particular, gave Bangladeshi batsmen a tough time. England's fast bowlers delivered a top-notch performance from the very beginning, with Jofra Archer achieving speeds of up to 150 kmph even on the slow Mirpur pitch.
England's three fast bowlers took five wickets together. The remaining five wickets were taken by the spinners. From the beginning, Bangladesh batted slowly on a slow wicket. Bangladeshi batsmen gave 41 dot balls in ten overs despite crossing thirty in the first four overs.

After a long time, Bangladesh got a chance to play ODI against England in home conditions. Tamim Iqbal won the toss and took the batting at Mirpur Stadium. Litton (7) was lbw after missing the line of the ball of Mark Wood's off swing when Bangladesh scored 33 runs. After that, the Bangladesh team seemed to lose rhythm.
Bangladesh was under pressure after losing four top-order batsmen for 106 runs. From there, Nazmul Hossain Shanto managed a 53-run partnership with Mahmudullah on the fifth wicket. However, Shanto failed to face Adil's googly and left after giving up the catch. Shanto brought up the first half-century of his ODI career, and he scored 58 runs off 82 balls.
Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal, Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah Riyad, and Mushfiqur Rahim- none of them could perform well. Shakib batted at number five and was bowled while hitting a silly shot. Tamim Iqbal was bowled by Mark Wood at 149 kmph. Mushfiqur Rahim scored just 16 runs off 34 balls before being dismissed. Mahmudullah Riyad was stopped at 31 runs. Najmul Hossain Afif Hossain and Mehdy Hasan Miraz scored under 10 run.
All in all, the Bangladesh team could not score more than 209 runs. 240-250 runs could have been quite effective in Mirpur to fight on this wicket. There is definitely regret in the dressing room.

England’s Batting
After the batting failure, the Bangladesh team was already behind in the match. On top of that, Dawid Malan's incredible innings put extra pressure on Bangladesh. Malan has long experience playing in Bangladesh conditions. As a result, this English batter took the opportunity of the familiar condition very well. He leads England to victory by picking up the fourth century of his career. With his 114 runs from 145, England easily overcame the 210 runs.
England lost five wickets for 103 runs. But one end of the wicket was held by Dawid Malan, who started batting after one wicket. Malan did not give any chance to the Bangladeshi bowlers after getting a chance to bat in 'familiar' conditions. He came to play Dhaka Premier League for the first time in 2013. Played for Prime Doleshwar for two consecutive seasons. He has experience playing for Comilla Warriors, Comilla Victorians, and Khulna Titans in BPL.
As a result, this batter is well-known about the condition of Mirpur, and he took that opportunity. Where other batters struggled, Malan has been slow. His unbeaten 114 won the match for England. Malan scored his fourth career century in 134 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes. After playing 11 more balls, he left the field without losing his wicket. Malan made an unbroken partnership of 51 runs off 59 balls with Adil Rashid on the eighth wicket.

Spin Friendly Wicket
Despite the failure in batting, the relief for Bangladesh is the performance of the bowlers. Only Mustafizur Rahman could not show his class. He was wicketless for 42 runs in 8 overs. There was a lot of discussion about Taijul's chance on the team. He poured water on that discussion with 3 wickets. He is the best bowler on the team, with 3 wickets for 54 runs. The inclusion of Taijul Islam in the team gave a hint that Bangladesh would try to win with the spin attack in the first ODI.
Off-spinner, Miraz took two wickets for 35 runs. Shakib and Taskin Ahmed were outstanding. Taskin took one wicket for 26 runs in 9 overs. Shakib took one wicket for 45 runs. Tamim-Shakib Clash: How ready Bangladesh are to face England
The England national team is ready to compete in three 'One Day Internationals' and three Twenty20 matches. The first match is scheduled to take place on March 1. Right before the series, there was speculation surrounding a clash between Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan. This raises a question about Bangladesh’s preparation and rhythm in the team before the BAN vs ENG ODI Series 2023.
Tamim Shakib Clash
Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal are two influential stars in the country's cricket based on performance and seniority. The environment of the team's dressing room also depends on them. Ahead of the upcoming England series, everyone is dreaming about the series win. But if the internal environment of the team is not good, it is sure to affect the match. That is why the Shakib-Tamim relationship is again in discussion. Board President Nazmul Hasan Papon has also opened up about this.
The rivalry between Shakib and Tamim has intensified in recent times. Both Shakib and Tamim appeared at an event a couple of weeks ago. But they were not seen talking to each other there, which did not escape the attention of Tiger fans. After that, the issue became a topic of discussion on social media. However, BCB president Papon has spoken to both of them and understands that it is not easy to resolve the issues between them at this moment.
Nazmul Hasan Paonon conveyed that we don't know what is going on between them, but in the match or series, their personal problem should not affect the field performance. Later they both promised to comply.
The relationship between Shakib and Tamim has been quite bitter for a long time. They talk to each other on the field if needed. But it is limited to the field. How Ready Are Bangladesh Squad to Face England?
Right before the England-Bangladesh series, Papon pointed out the grouping issue inside the Bangladesh cricket team. And this grouping is currently the biggest problem in Bangladesh cricket, and this is the reality. Other than that, everything seems to be fine.
This issue raises the question that whether the Bangladesh team are ready to give their best against England. Well, Bangladesh cricket team captain Tamim Iqbal is hopeful for a series win.
Left-handed opener Tamim did not directly deny the issue of his relationship with Shakib. However, he claims that it has no effect on the team. He emphasized that nothing else matters except what takes place during the game. ODI captain Tamim has clearly said that everything is fine on the field; it doesn't matter what happens outside the field. At a press conference prior to the England series, Tamim made such a claim.

Last year, Bangladesh won the ODI series against Afghanistan, South Africa, West Indies, and India, only losing a series against Zimbabwe. So, it is expected that the Bangladesh team will continue their good performance.
Bottom Line
Bangladesh's ODI squad has already started training under Chandika Hathurusingha, who is back as the coach of Bangladesh for the second time. However, Shakib Al Hasan has not joined the training yet due to a family issue. Rather, Shakib and Tamim were seen talking or celebrating the team's victory at various times on the field. Even in the last match of the three-match series against South Africa in 2022, Shakib and Tamim hugged each other and left the field smiling after securing victory by the wicket.

BCB already announced a 14 member squad for the ODI series. While there are regular faces, new players are also included in the team. Now, it is time to see how many of them impact the Bangladesh team. The following are the key players for the Bangladesh team.
Tamim Iqbal
Tamim Iqbal, the left-handed opener of the Bangladesh senior cricket team, is one of the most successful batsmen against England. Having played 14 matches and scored 488 runs, including two centuries with a top score of 128 against England, Tamim is expected to give his best in this series. However, Tamim was forced to be absent from the team due to an injury.

Now that he is returning, fans are eager to witness his best performance. Due to a groin injury, Tamim was unable to participate in the ODI series against India in December, yet Litton Das led the team to a victorious 2-1 outcome.
Litton Das
Recently, Litton Das has been in outstanding form, and with his upcoming ODI against England, we are excited to see his incredible batting ability against an opponent he never faced before. Last December, he captained Bangladesh against India, but sadly his performance was not up to the mark, as he scored only 77 runs in three ODIs.
Despite this, he earned praise for his captaincy skills, as Bangladesh was triumphant against India, winning the series with one match left in hand. Therefore, since Litton Das will be free of extra pressure in this tournament, we expect that he will be able to provide his regular performance.

Towhid Hridoy
Towhid is a new name in Bangladesh T20, but he got a call for the ODI team. Bangladeshi cricket fans eagerly await Hridoy's first appearance in this one-day series, as he was given the opportunity to join the national team due to his impressive performances in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

In the past, he has made 49 ODI appearances for the Bangladesh Under-19s, racking up 1624 runs with five centuries and ten half-centuries. Now, it's time to see if this experience has come to any help in the success of Bangladesh against England.
Shakib Al Hasan
Shakib Al Hasan is widely regarded as the greatest cricketer in Bangladesh's history, and his ability to turn a match around at any time has been well known. His incredible performance against England, which saw him notch up 399 runs and take 14 wickets in 14 appearances, has left fans eagerly anticipating his performance.

Furthermore, the current number one in both ICC ODI and T20I rankings has the chance to reach two major milestones in the England series. His current tally stands at 6835. Additionally, if he takes 6 more wickets with the ball, he will be the first Bangladeshi to reach 300 ODI wickets; only 13 bowlers have accomplished this, and Shakib is at 13th with 294 wickets currently.
Taskin Ahmed
Starting his international career in 2014, Taskin has become a dependable name for the Bangladesh cricket team. So far, 52 matches and taken 69 wickets with 5/28 best bowling figure.

Taskin Ahmed has proven himself to be a devoted cricketer for Bangladesh, as he has recently declined an offer from Multan Sultans to play three matches of the current PSL in preference of playing against England. He appeared in 4 ODI matches against England and took 5 wickets, his best bowling performance being 3/47 against the English team.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz
England will never forget Miraz. He has an outstanding record against England, having made his Test debut against them on October 20, 2016. During that match, the English batsmen were unable to counter his skilled bowling, with Miraz taking six wickets in the first innings and one in the second. He then went on to play an ODI against England and claim two more wickets.
As a more experienced bowler now, Miraz has a total of 79 wickets in 67 ODIs for Bangladesh. Meeting England again after such a long time is sure to motivate him to give an even better performance.
