Nearly six months after the polls, defeated BNP mayoral candidate Tabith Awal on Wednesday filed a petition with the election tribunal seeking a directive to the returning officer for providing him all the necessary documents related to the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) elections and the results.

A man was assaulted reportedly by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists near the Curzon Hall on Dhaka University campus on Saturday morning after he voted for BNP candidates in the Dhaka city election.

Voicing dissatisfaction over the low voter turnout, Jatiya Oikya Front Convener Dr Kamal Hossain on Saturday said voters are not coming to polling stations as they have no confidence in the election system.

Balloting in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) came to an end at 4 pm on Saturday amid ‘low voter turnout’ and reports of sporadic violence and allegations of BNP agents being driven out of polling stations.

Campaigning has peaked with just over a week left for the elections to two Dhaka city corporations as candidates are doing everything to woo voters in the final days.

At least 10 people, including BNP councillor candidate in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls ,were injured in an attack at an election office at Shahjadpur in the city on Tuesday night.
