Rizwana calls for national consensus for essential reforms
Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said on Wednesday that the critical need for building consensus in national interest was essential.
Gaining public trust required both political and policy consensus. To implement the necessary reforms for the welfare of the people, all stakeholders must work together with unity and commitment, she said after paying tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar on the occasion of Independence Day, according to a press release.

The rising above partisan and personal interests to reach a national consensus was imperative. Despite differences in perspective, efforts to bridge these gaps and align for the greater national interest must continue, the adviser said.
Strengthening the justice system was crucial in fostering public confidence, she added.
Regarding the people’s expectations, she reaffirmed the commitment to ensuring free and fair elections.
Rizwana said that delivering justice for the tragic killings that took place in July and August remained a significant challenge. "We are striving to ensure that through a proper judicial process, the public experiences a sense of justice and trust in the system.”
All parties should prioritise the national interest and move forward with reforms in line with the people’s aspirations, she also said.

Rizwana, US Charge d’Affaires discuss critical environmental challenges
Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has discussed advancing mutual cooperation in addressing critical environmental challenges with the US Embassy Chargé d'affaires, Tracey Ann Jacobson.
The discussion was held after Jacobson paid a courtesy call on Rizwana at the Department of Environment in Dhaka, on Wednesday, according to a press release.

Jacobson reaffirmed the United States' support for Bangladesh’s initiatives in renewable energy development and biodiversity conservation. She praised the government's efforts to address environmental issues while advancing the country’s development agenda.

Specific action plan needed to make Dhaka livable: Rizwana
Mega projects alone will not suffice and a specific action plan is needed to make Dhaka a livable city, said Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Monday.
“We need more green spaces, open areas for breathing, seating spaces, and opportunities for youth to engage in sports," she said.
She said these while speaking as a special speaker at a discussion programme at RAJUK Auditorium in the capital, organized on the occasion of World Habitat Day 2024. The theme of this year’s event was "Engaging youth to create a better urban future ."

During the event, the guests also unveiled two publications on the occasion of World Habitat Day.
