State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque on Sunday said the government will investigate the irregularities in appointments at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) during the past 16 years of Awami League rule. Replying to a supplementary question from BNP lawmaker Mosharraf Hossain in Parliament, the state minister said a probe committee would soon be formed to examine claims of politically influenced and irregular recruitment since 2008. Sports state minister congratulates Bangladesh on ODI series win over Pakistan He said some people were recruited through partisan considerations and those found involved would be identified and exposed to  public following a thorough investigation. "You will be surprised to know that BCB's financial and human resources were used in the past to support a group in depriving people of their voting rights," he said adding that officials and employees found guilty would face action after due process. Earlier, Mosharraf Hossain, MP from Bogura-4, questioned whether those linked to alleged misuse of BCB resources during the 2018 and 2024 elections would be held accountable. He claimed that the previous government had favoured politically affiliated and unqualified candidates in recruitment processes. Aminul Haque said that during the past administration, sports including cricket had been heavily politicised, leading to stagnation in the country's sports sector. He added that the current government is working to depoliticise sports in line with the Prime Minister’s directives. The state minister also mentioned that concerns over the personal wealth of some corrupt BCB officials had come to his attention. He said he would request the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to share any ongoing investigation findings with the ministry so the matter can be presented transparently to public.
