Man sentenced to life for raping minor girl in Kishoreganj
A man was sentenced life imprisonment for raping a minor girl in Kishoreganj on Sunday.
Kishoreganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge Mohammad Habibullah pronounced the order.
The court also imposed a Tk 1 lakh fine on the accused Riyad, 31.

According to the case complaint, on June 15, 2018, the accused raped a 16-year-old girl at Karimganj upazila.
When the girl became pregnant, her mother filed a case against the accused at Karimganj police station.
Special Public Prosecutor MA Afzal represented the state and advocate Abu Sayem Mazumdar appeared for the accused during the hearing.

Sexagenarian to serve life for violating fourth-grader in Chattogram
A Chattogram court Wednesday sentenced a sexagenarian to life term imprisonment for violating a fourth grader in Mirsharai upazila of the district in 2019.
It also fined the convict Tk 3,00,000, in default of which he will have to serve one more year in jail.
Chattogram Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Jude Begum Ferdous Ara handed down the verdict in presence of the accused.
The convict was identified as Md Akramul Hoque, son of late Sadik Rahman at Dakkhin Azamnagar village in Hinguli union of the upazila. He was a CNG run-auto rickshaw driver by profession.
Khandakar Ariful Alam, public prosecutor (PP) of the court, said that the accused used to lure the class-four student by offering chocolate and other things to get on his vehicle on her way to school and home.
The accused raped the minor girl taking her to an isolated place when she was returning home from school on August 5, 2019.
Though the vicious man threatened the girl not to share the matter with anyone, she disclosed it to family members.
The victim’s mother filed a case against the accused with the local police station two days after the incident.
Police pressed a charge sheet against the accused before the court on December 7, 2019, while the court framed the charge sheet on October 12, 2020.

2 sentenced to life for murder in Kushtia
A Kushtia court on Monday sentenced two people to life imprisonment for killing a farmer in Kumarkhali upazila in 2015.Kushtia Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 Judge Muhammad Tajul Islam passed the order.The accused Md Bappy Pramanik and Alamin Sarder have also been fined with tk 25,000, and will have to spend an additional year in jail if they fail to pay.The convicts were present at the court during the hearing and they have been sent to Kushtia jail after the order, said Public Prosecutor advocate Anupam Kumar Nandi.

Sherpur youth sentenced to life imprisonment in rape case
A Sherpur court on Sunday sentenced a 25-year-old man to life imprisonment in absentia, in a case filed over raping a teenager.
Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman passed the order in absence of the accused.
Accused Abul Hossain, son of Abdul Jabbar from Juginibag village in the Sadar upazila, has remained absconding since the case was filed, said advocate Golam Kibria, Public Prosecutor of the court.
The court has fined the accused Tk 20,000 and directed an additional six months in jail if unable to pay.

He was also sentenced to 14 years in jail with Tk 10,000 fine and additional three months in jail if unable to pay on a separate charge of kidnapping, said the PP. The sentences will be served concurrently - if he is ever caught, that is.
On September 21, 2017, Abul Hossain with his associates kidnapped an 8th-grader while she was on her way to a madrasah, according to the case statement.
On October 2, the victim's mother filed a case with the tribunal against Abul Hossain, his brother Anwar Hossain and father Abdul Jabbar after police rescued the girl.
On December 15, the investigation officer in the case submitted chargesheet against the three accused.

On December 9, 2020, the court framed charges against Abul Hossain but acquitted the two others.
The court has recorded statements of five witnesses during the trial of this case.

Man who incited 2019 Borhanuddin riots sentenced to 8 years in jail
A Barishal court on Sunday sentenced a Hindu man to eight years in jail for hacking a Facebook profile to post content hurting religious sentiments and deteriorating law and order at Borhanuddin upazila in Bhola in 2019.
Barishal Cyber Tribunal Judge Golam Faruque passed the order.
Md Istak Ahmed Rubel, Special Public Prosecutor of the court said accused Bapan Das has been sentenced to jail terms under three sections of the penal code and the punishment will continue simultaneously.

“Under section 34 he got eight years in jail with a fine of Tk 3 lakh, under section 28 (1) he got 2 years in jail and fine of Tk 1 lakh and under section 31 (1) he got four years in jail with Tk 1 lakh fine,“ said PP Istak Ahmed.
On October 18, 2019, a man named Biplab Chandra filed a general diary with Borhanuddin police station saying his Facebook profile named Biplab Chandra Shubho was hacked from which activities hurting religious sentiment were conducted.
On October 20, four people were killed during a clash between police and agitated people of Muslim community over the incident at Borhanuddin Eidgah ground.

Two more cases were filed in this regard which are still under trial.
On January 26, 2020, police arrested a hacker named Bapan Das after finding his involvement with the incident using information technology.
The court recorded Bapan Das’s confessional statement regarding the crime under section 164 and on August 1, last year police filed a charge sheet against him in this case.

Rohingya sentenced to 6 years jail under drug case
A Chattogram court sentenced a Rohingya drug smuggler to six years rigorous imprisonment.
The court also fined him Tk 5,000 and an additional six months jail term in default.

Fourth Additional Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shariful Alam Bhuiya passed the order on Wednesday.
Accused Md. Syed Alam, 20, is a Rohingya citizen of Myanmar. He is the son of Rustam Ali of A-block at Leda refugee camp in Teknaf.
Bench Assistant Omar Fuad confirmed the verdict.
According to court sources, he was arrested on December 4, 2018 in front of the Municipal Shopping Complex-2 in Kotwali. At that time police recovered 1,650 pieces of yaba from him.

Tapan Kanti Sharma, sub-region inspector of Chattogram Metro Narcotics Control Department, filed a case at Kotwali Police Station.
At present, accused Syed Alam, out on bail, has been absconding.
