Police press charges against cricketer Al-Amin for torturing wife, demanding dowry
Police Thursday pressed charges against cricketer Al-Amin Hossain for torturing his wife Ishrat Jahan and demanding dowry.
Inspector Md Sohel Rana of Mirpur Model Police Station, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.
According to the charge sheet, the charges brought against the cricketer were primarily proved.
Also, the court ordered the transfer of the case to the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-8 for the next steps.
On September 2, police filed a case against Al-Amin a day after Ishrat filed a complaint at Mirpur Model Police Station accusing him of torturing and physically abusing her for a dowry of Tk20 lakh.
On September 6 last year, the High Court granted an eight-week anticipatory bail to Al-Amin after he surrendered before it.
According to the case statement, Ishrat and Al-Amin got married on December 26, 2012, and they have two children.

ASP Anisul's death: Murder charges filed against 15 people
Police have pressed charges of murder against 15 people, including National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital (NIMH) Registrar Dr Abdullah Al Mamun, over the death of Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Anisul Karim at a hospital in the city in 2020.
Inspector Faruk Mollah of Adabor Police Station, investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet at Dhaka's chief metropolitan magistrate's court on Tuesday, confirmed Sub-Inspector Shariful Islam, general registration officer of Adabar Police Station, on Friday.

The other accused are- Director of Mind Aid Hospital Arif Mahmud, Pharmacist Tanvir Hasan, Officer Sakhawat Hossain, Sajjad Amin and Fatema Khatun, Coordinator of the hospital Redwan Sabbir, hospital staff Masud Khan, Jobaer Hossain, Tanif Mollah, Sajeeb Chowdhury, Asim Kumar Pal, Liton Ahmed and Saiful Islam.
Niaz Morshed, director of Mind Aid Hospital, was absolved of the charge by the court due to his death.
According to the charge sheet, ASP Anisul Karim was tortured in a medieval manner. Anisul was pushed off from the second floor of Mind Aid Hospital with his hands tied. The accused then confirmed his death by hitting him.
Anisul was the Assistant Commissioner in the Traffic Division of Barishal Metropolitan Police. He had been suffering from mental illness and was brought to Mind Aid for treatment on November 9 in 2020.
The accused forcefully took the victim to the observation room of the hospital and beat him repeatedly, CCTV footage showed.

The hospital staff informed Anisul’s family that he had fainted. And when the police officer's relatives took him to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, he was declared dead.
Anisul's father filed a case at Adabor police station against 15 people a day he died.
Police arrested 13 people in connection with the ASP’s death.

Regent Hospital scam: Charge sheet hearing against ex-DGHS DG, 5 others on Feb 22
A Dhaka Court on Sunday fixed February 22 for hearing on the charge sheet against six people, including former Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Abul Kalam Azad, in a case over Regent Hospital’s fake Covid test scam.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Emrul Kayesh deferred the hearing to February 22 as accused Regent Chairman Md Shahed was not produced in court from jail.

The court earlier fixed today (Sunday) for the hearing on accepting the charge sheet in the case. For this, five accused on bail, including former DGHS DG Abul Kalam Azad, appeared in the court.
Besides, the court granted permanent bail to former DGHS DG Abul Kalam Azad in the case today. The same court granted him interim bail on October 7 last year.
On September 30 last year, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) submitted a charge sheet to the court against six people, including Abul Kalam, in this case.
The five others accused in the case are - Regent Chairman Md Shahed alias Shahed Karim, former DGHS Director Aminul Hasan, Deputy Director Yunus Ali, Assistant Director Shafiur Rahman, and Research Officer Didarul Islam.

Azad was not initially named in the charge sheet but his name was added later following an investigation.
On September 23 of 2020, Deputy Director of the anti-graft commission Farid Ahmed Patwary filed the case against five people with Dhaka Coordinated Office-1 for embezzling Tk 1.37 crore by issuing fake Covid test certificates from Regent Hospital.
On September 24, 2020, the court accepted the statement of case and directed ACC deputy director to investigate the case and submit a report.
