A prisoner died after falling sick at Dhaka Central Jail on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Abdul Mannan, 42, son of Joynal Abedin of  Uttar Balukhanda area of Nawabganj in Dhaka district. According to prison authorities, Mannan was in custody in connection with a narcotics case. Prison guard Biplob said Mannan suddenly sick inside the jail in the morning. He was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the attending physician declared him dead. Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the police camp at DMCH, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy. An inquest report will be prepared in the presence of an executive magistrate before the post-mortem examination, he said. After completion of the legal formalities by the prison authorities, the body will be handed over to the deceased's family, he added.

A 35-year-old inmate who fell sick at the Narsingdi district jail died at a hospital on Tuesday. The deceased was Rokon Mia, son of Md Ali of Narsingdi Sadar Upazila’s Nozorpur union. Narsingdi jail superintendent Md Shamim Hossain said Rokon had been serving jail in a narcotics case filed in 2023. On Tuesday night, the prisoner fell sick and was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival, he said. His family was informed around 10 am on Wednesday, he added. However, Rokon’s family members claimed that he died around 9pm but police informed them after 13 hours of his death. Rokon might have been tortured to death, they alleged. Man hit by train dies at Khulna hospital Narsingdi Assistant Commissioner and Magistrate Rafiur Rahman said hospital report clearly stated that he was brought dead. “He was received dead at the hospital at night. The exact cause of death will be determined after  an  autopsy,” he said. The jail superintendent said the inmate might have died due to complications related to diabetes or drug addiction. The body was sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem and after that the body will be handed over to his family, he added.

A prisoner of Sunamganj jail died on Friday morning.

A prisoner died while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Saturday noon.

A convicted prisoner of a murder case died at Chattogram Central jail on Tuesday.
