Tidal surge inundated 18 villages in Jhalakati district on Wednesday  as Bishkhali and Sugandha rivers swelled due to depression in the Bay. Houses, roads and agricultural cropland have been affected by the flash flood. Read: Depression: Low-lying areas inundated in Bagerhat A total of 11 villages of Katalia upazila including upazila parishad bhaban and UNO office  have been flooded as there is no dam the Bishkhali River point. Thousands of people of Awra, Chingrakhali, Joykhali, Kachua, Shoulzalia, Awrabunia, Amua, and Moshabunia villages under the upazila are suffering due to the tidal surge.   Besides, low-lying areas in Nolchhity and Rajapur upazila have also been inundated.

A policeman who returned home in Sadar upazila here from Narayanganj tested positive for coronavirus  on Sunday.   Civil Surgeon Dr Shaymol Krishna Hawladar said the test report of the cop came from Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) on Sunday.   The houses of the SI and some of his neighbours were put under lockdown to prevent the transmission of the virus, he said.   The SI who returned from Narayanganj on April 14 is currently taking treatment at home, he said.      With this, a total of five people were found COVID-19 positive in the district while 602 were kept in home quarantine, he said.
