Black fungus detected in patient at DMCH
A patient was diagnosed with black fungus at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Monday, the chief of the public hospital said.
DMCH Director Brig Gen Dr Nazmul Haque said, "The patient had post-Covid symptoms and was diagnosed with black fungus after undergoing surgery."
This was the third black fungus case detected in the capital and the first at DMCH.

The 45-year-old patient from Khulna was admitted to DMCH a week ago with post-Covid-19 complications.
After a recent surgery, the doctors suspected black fungus in his body. They confirmed it after testing samples collected from the patient.
On May 25, the first two cases of black fungus or mucormycosis were detected at the capital's Birdem General Hospital in patients who recovered from Covid-19.

Black fungus, a rare infection, has a mortality rate of 50% "with some only saved by removing an eye." The fungus affects areas of the body including the eyes, nose, face, lungs, and even the brain in severe cases.
However, in recent months, India, whose states have been told to declare the disease an epidemic, saw thousands of cases affecting recovered and recovering Covid-19 patients, according to BBC reports.

Covid patient infected with Indian variant held in Chandpur
A Bangladeshi man who fled Jashore hospital after testing positive for the Indian variant of Coronavirus last week was detained from Chandpur on Wednesday.
Younus Gazi, 28, a resident of Cahrrampur village, was held from the district’s Bipinbag area in a drive conducted by a team of Faridganj police led by Officer-in-Charge Md Shahid Hossain.

Three of Gazi’s family members, including his mother, were admitted to the Isolation Ward of Faridganj Upazila Health Complex under police surveillance, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Ashraf Ahmed Chowdhury said Thursday.
“Samples were collected from them today for testing,” he said.

Ten coronavirus patients fled from the Jashore District Government Hospital on April 24 and 25. Six of them, including Gazi, had returned from India.
Police caught all 10 patients on April 26 and brought them back to the hospital.

Gazi managed to flee from there on May 13 while he tested positive for the Indian variant of the virus.

India returnee tests Covid-19 positive in N’ganj, house put under lockdown
An India returnee tested positive for Coronavirus in Tarabo area of Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj on Wednesday.
Local administration has put the house of Md Hossain, 25, under lockdown, said Dr Md Imtiaz, Civil Surgeon of the district .
Md Imtiaz said the samples of Hossain and his family members were collected on Tuesday.

“His tested positive for Covid-19 but his family members tested negative. We have put the house under lockdown and his family members will also stay in isolation,” he said.
Earlier on May 8,the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research(IEDCR) confirmed the first case of Indian Coronavirus strain in Bangladesh.

The Indian strain of Coronavirus was detected in a sample test at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka and it has been published on Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID), said chief scientific officer of IEDCR ASM Alamgir.
Later that day, two more confirmed cases of Indian Coronavirus strain were detected at the Genome Centre of Jessore University of Science and Technology.

Nilphamari Covid-19 patient found working in Narayanganj
A man, who was diagnosed with coronavirus in Nilphamari, has been found working at a textile mill in Narayanganj, ignoring his health conditions.
Manjurul Islam, 25, is a resident of Tengonmari village in Jaldhaka upazila of Nilphamari.
The development came to light on Saturday night, when a medical team came to his house with an ambulance to take him to the isolation unit of the hospital but could not find him.
Locals said Manjurul, along with 13 members of his family, came to his village on May 10 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
On May 24, a medical team collected samples from the man and his family members. After Eid, Manjurul and his family members returned to his workplace.
On Saturday, Manjurul's test result came out positive.
When contacted over phone, Manjurul said he is now doing well and working at a textile mill in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj, said Dr Abu Hasan Mohamamd Rezwanul Kabir, Jaldhaka Upazila Health and Family Planning officer.
Narayanganj administration was informed about the development later.
