Looking forward to next year with hopes for a better Bangladesh: Foreign Secretary
Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin on Saturday said they look forward to the next year with "hopes, expectation and aspiration" for a better Bangladesh, noting that they come to the end of this year which was an "eventful year" for Bangladesh.
"Let us work hard for a better Bangladesh, for an improved version of Bangladesh which will be a tribute to those who laid down their lives," he said.
The outgoing year has witnessed great sacrifices and bloodshed, Jashim said, adding that they lost many young lives who are not with them anymore but whose heroism they remember and celebrate. "Let us work for them."

He was speaking at the annual event "FOSA International Charity Bazaar 2024" hosted by Foreign Office Spouses Association (FOSA) at Foreign Service Academy.

FBCCI wants power rationing for uninterrupted production
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has called for power rationing for uninterrupted production as "factories are experiencing unusual production disruption due to load shedding."
FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin made the call at the third meeting of its standing committee on power, energy and utilities in Dhaka Wednesday.
He also called for a short, medium and long-term roadmap for ensuring energy security.
FBCCI Vice-President MA Momen said Bangladesh is now more developed in the energy sector than before. He called upon all to work together to deal with the power crisis.

Abul Kasem Khan, director-in-charge of the FBCCI committee, called for an emphasis on coal-fired power generation.
"The energy sector will create huge employment in future. So, it needs more attention from the policymakers," Humayun Rashid, chairman of the committee and managing director of Energypac Power Generation, said.
FBCCI directors Bijoy Kumar Kejriwal and Md Naser also spoke at the meeting.

Harassment in name of raids at hotel, restaurants unacceptable: FBCCI President
FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin has said that raids on hotels, restaurants and guest houses during the covid situation are unacceptable, calling it out as harassment.
“The owners of hotels, motels and restaurants are trying very hard to turn the wheel of their fortune despite being hit very hard by the pandemic. But harassment in the name of raids at these institutions are only increasing their miseries,” he said.
“These raids are absolutely unacceptable during the covid situation,” he said.

He came up with these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at an eventful opening ceremony of The Rio Lounge, an upscale buffet restaurant on the eighth floor of Pink City in Gulshan on Friday evening.
The FBCCI president also praised the incentive packages provided to the entrepreneurs by the government during the pandemic.
“Many entrepreneurs are coming forward to invest in new businesses during this challenging time because of the incentive packages provided by the Prime Minister,” he said.
