Trade through Hili land port to remain suspended for 7 days for Durga Puja
Export and import between Bangladesh and India through Dinajpur’s Hili land port will remain suspended for seven days on the occasion of Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community.
Md Mostafizur Rahman, general secretary of Hili Land Port Import-Export Group, said that trade activities will remain halted from October 19 to 25 .

“The import-export through the land port will resume in full swing from October 26 after the Puja celebration,” he said, adding that they have taken the decision after a meeting with traders from both the countries.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hili Immigration check-post, Sheikh Ashraful, said though business activities will remain suspended during the weeklong vacation, immigration process will go on as usual.

So, the cross-border travel will continue through the immigration check-post of the land port during this time, he added.
Md Bayezid, deputy commissioner of the Hili Land Customs Station, said that local businesses will be able to release their imported goods by paying customs during the vacation except on October 24 as it will be a public holiday for Durga Puja.

Sexual abuse: DU student suspended
A student of Dhaka University has been suspended for sexually abusing her female classmate.
The decision was taken at a disciplinary committee meeting held at Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate building on Thursday. DU VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman presided over the meeting.

"Kabir Ahmed Kaushik, a post graduate student of Communication Disorder department, has been suspended as allegation of sexual abuse against him was found true initially," said a press release.
On September 29 last year, a female student of the same department submitted a written complaint against Kabir Ahmed Kaushik to the proctor of the university for abusing her sexually.

RU student suspended for harassing teacher
Rajshahi University (RU) has suspended a student of the Law Department allegedly for harassing a teacher of the same department.
The suspended student is Md Ashiqullah, a master's student, said university proctor Prof Ashabul Haque Wednesday afternoon.

“The student has been suspended according to the decision of the university's disciplinary committee and the syndicate,” he said.
Ashiqullah was confined to the department chairman’s room for two hours by the fellow students soon after he harassed Prof Asma Siddiqa. The teachers and students of the department later handed him over to the university administration.
Professor Asma Siddiqa said, “When I was about to leave the 4th year class, Ashiqullah blocked my way. When he asked me for a solution to an internal matter of the department, I asked him to talk to Chairman sir. But he misbehaved with me without hearing my advice.”

Professor Hasibul Alam Pradhan, chairman of the Law Department, said, “We have taken action against the accused student.”
Meanwhile, students of the department staged a sit-in programme in front of the administrative building to press home their three-point demand including Ashiqullah’s expulsion.

Padma Bridge inauguration: trucks and covered vans suspended from Jun 24
Ahead of the inauguration of Padma bridge, the movement of trucks and covered vans on highways connected to Padma Bridge would remain suspended from June 24 morning to June 26 morning.
Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday.

Chakaria OC suspended for celebrating birthday with fugitive accused
Officer-In-Charge of Chakaria police station Muhammad Osman Gani has been suspended for celebrating his birthday at his office with some fugitive accused.
Md Hasanuzzaman, Superintendent of Cox’s Bazar police confirmed the matter to UNB Thursday afternoon.
He was suspended as the police force’s image was hampered after photos of OC Gani’s birthday celebration with some fugitive accused at the police station went viral on social media recently and evoked controversy, said Md Rafiqul Islam, Additional Superintendent of police.

OC Osman Gani has been attached to Cox’s bazar Police Lines, he said.
On March 2, the OC celebrated his birthday by cutting a cake at Chakaria police station.

UNO suspended in Sunamganj for corruption
The Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Sunaganj’s Shalla has been suspended on charges of corruption.
The district administration on Thursday issued UNO Md. Al Muktadir Hossain’s suspension order after an investigation regarding corruption in the government construction projects, including Haor dams, rehabilitation houses, Upazila Parishad shops and lease of canals.

Sunamganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jahangir Hossain said that UNO Al Muktadir of Shalla has been suspended. Dirai Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Arup Ratan Singh has been given additional responsibility as the UNO of Shalla. He also said that a three-member inquiry committee investigated the allegations that chairmen brought against the UNO and found his involvement.

Assaulting education officer: Dewanganj municipality mayor suspended
Dewanganj Municipality mayor Shahnewaz Shahan Shah has been suspended for assaulting the secondary education officer in Jamalpur district on the Victory Day.
A notification was issued in this regard by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRD) on Monday night.
As a case was filed against mayor Shahnewaz and investigation into the allegations against him has started, the government has suspended him under section 31 (1) of the Local Government Act (Municipality), 2009, the notification said.

The misbehavior with secondary education officer Md Meher Ullah by the mayor is beyond etiquette, tantamount to misconduct, misuse of power and misgovernance and it goes against the public interest, the notification said.
On Monday, suspended mayor Shahnewaz was also expelled from local unit of Awami League over the same incident.
On December 16, Shahnewaz physically assaulted education officer Md Meher Ullah at a Victory Day programme in the upazila.
Md Meher was conducting the programme at Dewanganj Government High School premises. He was calling the names of the officials inviting them to place wreaths in serial.

As the mayor was the eighth in serial he got angry and started abusing Meher verbally. When the officer protested the mayor allegedly slapped him.
A case was filed against Shahnewaz in this connection on that day.

Notre Dame student's death: 9 DSCC drivers suspended
Nine Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) drivers have been suspended over the death of Notre Dame College student Naim Hasan under the wheels of a DSCC garbage truck in Gulistan.
The move was made against them for illegally running the vehicles allocated to them through proxy drivers.
Also, a departmental case was filed against the drivers on charges of negligence of duty, misconduct and incompetence.
However, the DSCC drivers will get a food allowance during their suspension.

Of the nine DSCC staff, seven drive garbage trucks. They are Kawsar Ali, Belayet Hossain, Farid Ahmed, Md Abdullah, Jamal Uddin II, Kabir Hossain II and Rabiul Alam, DSCC Public Relations Officer Md Abu Naser said Monday. The others – Azim Uddin and Nur Jalal Shikder – drive light vehicles.
According to the office order signed by DSCC Secretary Akramuzzaman, the vehicles were allocated to DSCC registered drivers who had them illegally driven by proxy drivers. "This is the reason why accidents occur frequently, costing human lives and damaging properties."
The DSCC's transport department officials became serious about irregularities after Naim was run over by a garbage truck on November 24.
The report of the investigation committee formed over the death of the Notre Dame College student also revealed mismanagement and irregularities at the DSCC's transport department.
A proxy driver, later identified as outsider Russel Khan, was behind the wheels of the truck when the accident took place in Gulistan.

Staff driver Md Iran Mia, who was supposed to drive the vehicle, allowed DSCC cleaning staff Harun to run it. Harun then handed over the keys to the truck to Russel.

3 cops suspended as Rohingya man flees police custody in Ctg
Three policemen were suspended as a Rohingya man escaped from police custody in Chattogram court building area on Sunday.
One sub-inspector and two constables were suspended following the incident.
Police said Abul Kalam, a Rohingya man, fled the scene while being produced in court along with other accused in the afternoon.

Earlier in the morning, Kalam was arrested along with 1,050 pieces of Yaba from the Station Road in the port city and then handed over to Kotwali Police Station.
Confirming the matter, Nezam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, said a drive is on to arrest the Rohingya man.
Departmental action will be taken against the policemen after an investigation, the OC added.
