The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday approved a charge sheet against six people including former Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services(DGHS) Abul Kalam Azad in a case over Regent Hospital scam. Azad was not initially named in the case but the charge sheet added his name after an investigation, Deputy Director of ACC Public Relations office Muhammad Arif Sadeq told UNB.  Deputy Director of the anti-graft commission Farid Ahmed Patwary filed the case against five people with Dhaka Coordinated Office-1 on September 23 last year for embezzling Tk 1.37 crore by issuing fake Covid test certificates from Regent Hospital. READ: Quader says ACC is welcome to probe his ministry for corruption The five others accused in the case are - Regent Chairman Shaheduzzan, former DGHS Director Aminul Hasan, Deputy Director Yunus Ali, Assistant Director Shafiur Rahman, and Research Officer Didarul Islam. Last year, numerous incidents of mismanagement and irregularities in the health sector got exposed when physicians of some government hospitals, including Mugda General Hospital, complained of receiving low-quality masks and protective equipment. Then issuance of fake Covid-19 certificates by some hospitals triggered huge criticisms at home and abroad. The scandal came to light with a drive at Regent Hospitals on July 6  and the Regent Group head office along with its hospitals was subsequently sealed off. A tribunal in Dhaka on Wednesday took the charges against Regent Group Chairman Mohammad Shahed Karim into cognizance and fixed August 27 for hearing on charge framing in an arms case.

BNP on Thursday alleged that the ‘government’s policy’ is behind the rise of Regent Hospital chairman Mohammad Shahed and JKG Healthcare's chairman Dr Sabrina who indulged in fraudulence in the name of corona test. 

An arms case  has been filed with Satkhira’s Debhata Police Station  against Regent Group Chairman Md Shahed alias Shahed Karim and two others.

A court here on Thursday placed Regent Hospital Chairman Mohammad Shahed and managing director Masud Parvez on a 10-day remand each in a case over issuing fake Covid-19 certificates.   Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim passed the order after DB police inspector Gaffarul Alam, also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court in the morning with a 10-day remand prayer.   The court also rejected the bail petitions of Shahed and Pervez when their lawyer advocate Nazmul Hossain filed separate petitions  seeking bail for them.   Besides, the court also placed Tariqul Islam alias Tarek, an employee of Regent Hospital, on a 7-day fresh remand when police produced him before the court after expiry of his five-day remand.

Regent Hospital Chairman Mohammad Shahed was arrested based on information given by the hospital’s managing director Masud Parvej, said Director-General of Rapid Action Battalion Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Regent Hospital Chairman Mohammad Shahed from Shakhra Komorpur border in Debhata upazila of Satkhira district early Wednesday on charge of issuing fake Covid-19 certificates.

A case was filed against Regent Hospital Chairman Mohammad Shahed on Monday on charge of embezzling more than Tk 91 lakh from a transport exporter in Chattogram.

BNP on Monday wanted to know  as to why action is not being taken against the "godfathers" who abetted the owners of Regent Hospital and JKG Healthcare in deceiving people by providing false coronavirus certificates.
