More rain likely across Bangladesh over 24 hours: BMD's weather forecast
More rain is likely across the country over 24 hours, starting from 9 am today (July 02, 2023), as monsoon is active, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) predicted.
“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind are likely to occur at most places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions; and at many places in Khulna, Dhaka, Barishal and Chattogram divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country,” said the Met Office.

Rainfall may also increase in the next 72 hours, it reads.
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged in the country.
Monsoon is active over the northern part, fairly active elsewhere in Bangladesh, and moderate over north Bay, the weather report says.

The weather office recorded the highest 124 mm rainfall in Netrokona in 24 hours till 6 am today.
The mercury reached 35.5 degree Celsius – the highest – in Jashore, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 23.5 degree in Tangail.

Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty/squally wind is likely to occur at many places over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram & Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions with hails at isolated places over the country, said a bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

A mild heat wave is sweeping over Khulna division and the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, and Madaripur and it may abate from some places, it read. Day and Night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
Wind direction and speed at Dhaka were recorded as 10-15 kph East/southeasterly, with temporary gusting to 30-40 kph.
The country’s highest temperature was recorded at 36.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday in Khulna and the lowest temperature was recorded in Tetulia at 20.2 degrees Celsius.

The Met Office has predicted rain or thundershowers in parts of the country over 24 hours, starting from 9 am today (May 21, 2023).
“Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind are likely to occur at a few places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places in Khulna and Barishal divisions,” said the Met Office bulletin.
A mild heatwave is sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Jashore and Chuadanga and it may continue, according to the bulletin.

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged across the country, according to the Met Office bulletin.
The highest temperature was recorded at 37.1 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi while the lowest temperature was recorded at 20.5 degrees Celsius in Kishoreganj’s Nikli and Sylhet.
The weather office recorded the highest 34 mm rainfall in Sylhet.

First nor’wester of season likely Wednesday
A light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and the regions of Cumilla, Jashore and Kushtia in the next 24 hours from 6pm on Tuesday.
Md Shahinur Alam, a meteorologist of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), told UNB on Tuesday night.
A nor'wester is also likely to lash parts of Bangladesh with the speed of 60 to 80 kilometer per hour within the time, the meteorologist said.
Day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, he said.
On the other hand, the Agriculture Ministry in a media release said the light to moderate rain is likely to occur in all districts from March 17- 22.
In the release Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) provided some instructions for farmers.
The instructions includes refraining from using sewerage, fertilizers and insecticides during the period, harvesting the ripped crops soon and reserving in dry spaces among others.
After the gusty rain, the farmers are asked to use fertilizers and insecticides as per the instructions.
A heatwave is sweeping over the parts of the country for the last a few days.
Nor'wester or the Kalbaishakhi occurs in India and Bangladesh, often with violent hurricane-speed winds and the pre-monsoon nor'wester is caused by heavy convection for excessive heat.

Another danger that has come to the fore in recent years is lightning accompanying the nor'westers, that have taken scores of lives in recent years. In 2016, 42 people were killed in a single day of nor'westers across the country.

A low has formed over central part of South Bay of Bengal. A Trough from this system extends up to North Bay, it added.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers in the next 24 hours across the country commencing 9 am on Tuesday.
According to the Met office, “Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at many places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country.”

The low over west central Bay and adjoining Northwest Bay off Andhra Pradesh coast now lies over Northwest Bay off Odisha coast.
It is likely to move west-northwestwards. The axis of monsoon trough runs through Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across southern part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs extends up to North Bay.
