Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep local cautionary signal no. 3 hoisted as the monsoon depression over India’s West Bengal-Bihar and adjoining area moved west-northwestwards and now lies over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining area.
It is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction further and weaken gradually into a well-marked low, said a special bulletin of the Met office on Thursday (August 03, 2023).

People urged to use Payra Port to avail its modern facilities
Payra Port Authority has urged all to use the country's third international sea port, Payra, to avail all the modern facilities of the port.Chairman of the Payra Sea Port Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail made the call to all concerned in a views-exchange meeting on the operational activities of the seaport held at the auditorium of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) in Motijheel of the capital on Sunday.Payra port's member (harbour and marine) Captain Mohammad Zahid Hossain presented a PowerPoint presentation on various facilities of the third international seaport in the meeting presided over by Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail.Speakers at the view exchange meeting termed the Payara port as the country's first smart sea port saying that goods can be transported from this port simultaneously to different parts of the country by road and rail at a low cost. Besides, it is possible to get traffic-free services by using this port seamlessly. As a result of this, on the one hand, the businessmen will benefit, and on the other hand, the socio-economic development of the country will be extensive, they added.

Power transmission from Payra and Rampal plants to Dhaka to wait for another 7-8 months
The transmission of electricity from newly built Payra and Rampal plants over Padma River to Dhaka's Aminbazar has to wait for at least 7-8 months.
Work on construction of a high voltage 400 kV double-circuit power transmission line to cross mighty river through Padma Bridge is yet to be completed. BPDB, meanwhile. counts huge financial loss.
According to official sources, the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) had undertaken the 164.6 km long Aminbazar-Maowa-Mongla transmission line project in 2016 at a cost of Tk 2505.37 crore.

The most significant part of the project was the Padma River Crossing which remains incomplete because of the ongoing construction work of the Padma Bridge project.

Deep depression weakened into depression, Maritime ports asked to lower signal
Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to lower signal as the deep depression over Odisha-Jarkhand and adjoining area moved west-northwestwards further, weakened into a depression.
It was centered at 3 pm on Tuesday over Chhattisgarh and adjoining area.
It is likely to move in a northwesterly direction further and weaken gradually, said a Met office bulletin.

The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary number three as a low pressure area has been formed over the North Bay and adjoining areas.
“Under its influence, deep convection is taking place and steep pressure gradient lies over the North Bay and adjoining areas,” said a Met office bulletin.
