Whether in the workplace or life in general, leaving behind a positive legacy is a desire many share. This article will help you to find effective ways to be remembered for the right reasons.
Legacy Mindset
A legacy mindset and leadership are intertwined guiding principles for a meaningful existence, transcending mere achievements and emphasising the profound impact on others. Picture the legacy mindset as an architectural design for a lasting impression in personal and professional spheres.

In the workplace, leadership rooted in a legacy-driven mindset involves making a positive impact through excellence, teamwork, and fostering a positive environment. However, a legacy extends beyond the professional domain, with acts of kindness and genuine connections weaving threads into the fabric of a narrative that transcends the workplace.
Leadership, transcending titles and power, requires a legacy-driven mindset that harmonises personal ambitions with the greater good. It demands humility, urging leaders to set aside egos and focus on collective well-being.
Ultimately, a legacy-driven mindset, in personal relationships or leadership roles, is a daily commitment to a purpose-driven approach. It is about creating a positive legacy that inspires and influences generations. This mindset serves as a guiding beacon, steering individuals and leaders to navigate with integrity, compassion, and a profound commitment to leave the world better than they found it.

AL National Council: Not easy to lead both party and government, says PM
Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said it is a hard job to lead both the government and the party.
“I am cordially accepting the responsibility that you have given to me. But I think new leadership has to come up. I hope that you will bring new leadership in the future,” she said.
The prime minister said this while speaking at the second session of the 22nd National Council of ruling party Awami League, where she was elected as the president of the party for the 10th consecutive time, starting from 1981.
The second session of the council was held at the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB).
Hasina said that many people tried to destroy the Awami League, but failed.
“AL always changes the fate of the people, people always get something whenever AL comes to power. Whenever AL comes to power, it develops the lives of the masses, and the country's image and dignity are also enhanced,” she said.

"Keeping that in mind, we have to advance our party through strengthening it," she added, before turning her focus to the next general election. “The next election will be held in 2024, we have public support, and we have to increase our votes by consolidating the support.”
In this regard, she put emphasis on increasing membership of the party. “There must not be any deviation in this connection,” she said.
She also asked the AL leaders and activists to remain beside the people of the country at all times in order to serve them.

Will Juba Mohila League finally get new leadership at 2022 conference?
Aspiring young leaders of the female youth wing of ruling party Awami League are increasingly frustrated at the lack of change in the central leadership of their organisation for the last 20 years.
Nazma Akhter and Apu Ukil have been occupying the top two positions of the Juba Mohila League since 2004, following its formation in 2002 with former women leaders of the Chhatra League, AL's student front.
Many, who did not wish to be named, told UNB about their regret and disappointment.
In such a reality, the third tri-annual conference of the organisation will be held on Thursday (December 15) after five years.
Awami League president Sheikh Hasina will be present as the chief guest at the conference to be held at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
Meanwhile, the leaders of the party are expecting a change in the top leadership of Jubo Mohila League through this conference.

Leaders hoping for the post of president and general secretary of Jubo Mohila League are expecting new leadership for the top two positions through this year’s conference.
The current general secretary Apu Ukil said preparations for the tri-annual council are done.
“The issue of leadership is up to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. She will do what she thinks best. I will work where she allows me to work,” she said, when asked to comment on the possibility.
Vice President Kohale Quddus Mukti, a former Chhatra League leader, said that there is enthusiasm among the leaders and workers around the conference, and it is being held as part of a continuous political process.
"Jubo Mohila League is an organisation created by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina,” Mukti said. “I have been with the organisation since its birth. She (Sheikh Hasina) is our guardian. We put our trust and confidence in her. Whatever decision she takes, we will follow that. Everything will depend on the decision of the Prime Minister.”
Jubo Mohila League organising secretary Sharmin Sultana Lilly said the platform was created for former Chhatra League women leaders. Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina created it at a time when BNP-Jamaat terrorist activities, and atrocities against women were rampant. As a street fighter, she then formed the Jubo Mohila League.
"We want the leadership of Dhaka University to be given priority by those who were the leaders of Chhatra League. But whatever decision she (Sheikh Hasina) takes regarding the leadership, we all will accept it," Lilly also said.
Awami League central executive member and former acting president of Chhatra League Marufa Akhtar Popi, Zakia Noor Lipi MP, daughter of interim president and one of the four national leaders Syed Nazrul Islam, and Awami League central executive member Gloria Jharna Sarkar MP can be selected for the position of President, according to the party sources.
Apart from them, Apu Ukil, Shirina Nahar Lipi, Kohile Quddus Mukti, Aleya Sarwar Daisy and Afroza Mansoor Lipi are in discussion for the post of president of Jubo Mohila League.
During its founding in 2002, a convening committee of 101 members was formed in Jubo Mohila League. In the first conference of the organisation held in 2004, Najma Akhtar was elected as the president and Apu Ukil as the general secretary.
After 13 years, the second and last conference of Jubo Mohila League was held on March 17, 2017. In the conference, Najma Akter was re-elected as president and Apu Ukil as general secretary.

"This woman is a force": Washington Post
The renowned US news outlet Washington Post has lauded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her bold leadership on the global stage alongside Bangladesh’s impressive progress in women’s empowerment and achievements in education and poverty reduction.
In a refreshing approach, it has also provided glimpses of Sheikh Hasina’s lighter side.
The Washington Post article was published yesterday and written by Petula Dvorak — a columnist for the newspaper.
The article mentions that the PM celebrated her 76th birthday with her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and her 16-year-old granddaughter, who live in a suburb just outside Washington DC.

“I cook for them,” Hasina said. “Chicken biryani … At my son’s house, I have my own kitchen that’s just for me.”
Dvorak interviewed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ritz-Carlton in north Virginia, where she was staying after attending the UNGA in New York.
Highlighting the Bangladesh PM’s success stories, Dvorak wrote, Sheikh Hasina is the longest-serving female head of government in the world.
The article said, the Prime Minister is leading a nation with more people than Russia and survived at least 20 assassination attempts, including a particularly bloody grenade attack in 2004.

Referring to a man named Abdullah Niami, the writer said, he raised his 6-year-old daughter Zoya up high as he wanted her to see Sheikh Hasina — a female head of government which “America won’t see anytime soon”.
The article also highlighted that Sheikh Hasina is upholding the legacy of Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu, as the nation’s Prime Minister for four terms, totaling 18 years so far.
At the UN General Assembly, it said, the Prime Minister asked for help with accommodating more than a million Rohingya refugees who fled the violence in Myanmar and settled in Bangladesh camps.
Dvorak quoted Sheikh Hasina as saying that camp life is not good and the Rohingyas want to return to their country.

Her nation’s migrant situation cannot be compared with America’s, she said, adding that the United States is a vast country with lots of land and opportunities to work.
Sheikh Hasina said, Bangladesh ranks as No. 8 in the world in terms of population, with more than 171 million people, but its size is close to that of Wisconsin in the US.
The article also highly appreciated the Sheikh Hasina government’s zero-tolerance approach to domestic terrorism.
The writer pointed out the “Despite Being a Women” meme featuring Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

In response, the PM laughingly noted: sometimes “women are better than men”.
“Being a woman”, the Prime Minister said, she understands the struggles related to poverty in Bangladesh, the obstacles that most women face, and how their non-inclusion stalls a nation’s progress.
In the past decade, her government significantly reduced poverty in the country, expanded educational opportunities and improved housing, she said.
The Petula Dvorak's article quoted the World Bank that gives high marks for growth in Bangladesh under Sheikh Hasina’s leadership, noting it went from “being one of the poorest nations at birth in 1971” to reaching “lower-middle income status in 2015.”

'Pakistan leadership can learn many lessons from Bangladesh'
Bangladesh has experienced significant economic transformation over the years, which can be attributed to its leadership, reads an article published in The Express Tribune.
Pakistan’s leadership can learn many lessons from Bangladesh’s experience, but the main takeaway should be that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina prioritised economic growth, which is crucial for both defence and democracy, reads the article.
Sahibzada Riaz Noor in his article mentioned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Padma Bridge recently and declared it a ‘symbol of pride and capacity’.
As early as 1992, Sheikh Hasina was involved in the economic issues and plans for Bangladesh, according to the article titled "Takeaways from Bangladesh’s leadership." She undertook the task of balancing economic policies with political implications.
Sheikh Hasina learnt from other Asian countries whose economic success was based upon four pillars: political stability, social development, trade liberalisation with export-led growth and fiscal restraint, reads the article.
During a conference, when an economist began informing her about the benefits of trade liberalisation, Sheikh Hasina quipped, “you don’t have to convince me about trade liberalisation. When I was living with my physicist husband in the Italian city of Trieste on the Yugoslavian border, I watched the border being opened three times a week and people travelling across from both sides, purchasing goods and return.”
Read: Dhaka, Washington to follow up issues discussed over past few months
This demonstrates that Sheikh Hasina was assiduously focused on economics rather than other considerations that politicians are attracted to, Riaz Noor mentioned in his article.
Even though between 1971 to 2009, Bangladesh had hiccups in accountability campaigns and military rule, since 2009, the army has taken the back seat, he said. Bangladesh has seen less frequent derailment of civilian governments and experienced little legitimisation and delegitimization of governments.
Despite having little experience in governance, the Prime Minister possessed visionary acuity and conviction that economic progress was the only way to alleviate poverty in the country, reads the article.
Bangladesh has become one of the fastest-growing economies in the world and back in 1970, the country was 75% poorer compared to Pakistan but now it is 45% richer, the article reads.
In 1970, it had 10 million more mouths to feed but now its population is 170 million compared to Pakistan’s 230 million, according to the article.
In 2021, Bangladesh’s exports were $47 billion while Pakistan’s exports were $28 billion. The income per capita in Bangladesh is $2,227 compared to Pakistan’s $1,543.
In 2022, its gross domestic product (GDP) is $411 billion compared to the $347 billion in Pakistan.
The annual inflation rate is 6% compared to Pakistan’s previous 12-15%, which has now risen to 21% and is expected to further increase.
Also, the Bangladeshi taka is much stronger compared to the Pakistani rupee, reads the article.
Importantly, Bangladesh has a strong literacy rate with high female participation in the economy, it reads.
In Pakistan, political parties have remained interested in personal gains, according to the article.
The repeated manipulation of the democratic process has stymied the growth of strong, democratic, and non-dynastic parties, it reads.
It is worth recognising that economic growth is closely tied with political stability, rule of law, strong civilian institutions, and participatory democracy, the article reads.

US seeks to reassert global leadership role in struggle for human dignity, liberty
The United States on Tuesday released 2021 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices and said they will continue to support those around the world struggling for human dignity and liberty.
There is much progress to be made in the United States and globally, reads the report. By working together, the US said, they can come closer to building a world where respect for human rights is truly universal.
US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken delivered on-camera remarks on the release of the global report at the US Department of State.
READ: US seeks equitable treatment of all businesses in Bangladesh
Promoting respect for human rights and defending fundamental freedoms are central to the US.
Required by US law to be produced annually, the Biden administration in its first two years has clearly attached much more weight to their findings than was seen during the Republican administration of Donald Trump. The reports document the status of human rights and worker rights in 198 countries and territories.
The stability, security, and health of any country depends on the ability of its people to freely exercise their human rights – to feel safe and included in their communities while expressing their views or gender, loving who they love, organizing with their coworkers, peacefully assembling, living by their conscience, and using their voices and reporting from independent media to hold governments accountable, according to the US Department of State.
Building on longstanding allegations with regards to Bangladesh, the latest US report on the country claims that the government took few measures to investigate and prosecute cases of corruption, and also of abuse and killing by security forces.
