Class 7 student dies of heat stroke, 5 fall sick in Khulna
A school student of class 7 died and five other students fell sick from heat stroke on Tuesday (June 13, 2023) in different schools under Dumuria and Rupsa upazilas of Khulna district.
The deceased was identified as Surjit Basak, son of Anupati Basak, a class 7 student at Kalibari Secondary School.

According to family sources, Surjit went to school on Tuesday morning. But on the way, he fell sick in the sweltering heat.
He was taken to Dumuria Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
Dumuria Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Koni Mia confirmed the death of Surjit Basak due to "cardiac arrest."

Meanwhile, five students of Kajdia Secondary Girls School in Rupsa upazila fell sick from excessive heat due to load shedding during an examination. They were taken to the Upazila Health Complex.
Chand Sultana, the head teacher of the school, said, "Due to load shedding and intense heat, the students started feeling sick and lost consciousness in the exam hall. They were immediately taken to the Upazila Health Complex.”

Unable to get jab, man thrashes health centre staff
Unable to get the Covid-19 vaccine, a 32-year-old man allegedly thrashed the storekeeper of Atpara Upazila Health Complex in Netrokona on Tuesday.
Nurul Amin, the son of Gias Uddin Ahmed of Mobarakpur village in Atpara upazila, has been arrested, police said on Wednesday.

Upazila Health Complex sources said that the vaccination drive began at the centre on Tuesday morning but it ran out of Covid jabs by noon.
When Mirza Ataur Rahman Jewel, the storekeeper of the hospital, came out and announced the same to people who were in the queue to get the jab, Nurul got agitated and attacked him.
On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested Nurul.

Md Zafar Iqbal, officer-in-charge of Atpara Police Station, said a case was filed against Nurul in this regard. "He will be produced in a court on Wednesday," he said.

483 upazila health complexes get Tk 14.49 cr allocation
The Health Ministry has allocated a total of Tk 14.49 crore to the 483 upazila health complexes to ensure emergency health services across the country.
Each of the health complexes received Tk 3 lakh to provide health service for the people of grass level root, said a press statement of the Ministry on Sunday.
The allocated money will be utilized for machineries (logistic support), medicine, oxygen and other necessities for the patients of Covid-19 isolation hospital.
The ministry issued the notice signed by Senior Assistant Secretary of Health Ministry Sushil Kumar Pal.

Covid-19 in Bangladesh
Bangladesh has reported its highest single-day coronavirus fatalities on Sunday, surpassing Saturday’s figure.
The health authorities confirmed 78 deaths during the last 24 hours till morning. A day earlier, the country recorded 77 fatalities, the highest since coronavirus cases were first reported in March last year.
Fatalities from Covid-19 rose to 9,739 as the mortality rate remained static at 1.42 percent for the third consecutive day.
Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus death on March 18 last year. The virus claimed 568 lives in January this year, 281 in February and 638 in March.

Meanwhile, 5,819 new cases were reported, pushing the local tally to 684,756, according to a handout issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The infection rate slipped to 19.81 percent from 20.49 percent of Saturday’s. So far, 5,002,865 samples, including 29,376 in the last 24 hours, have been tested.
