The weather department has predicted showers across the country in 24 hours commencing 9 am on Sunday. “Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country,” said a Met office bulletin. A mild heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Sylhet, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dinajpur and Nilphamari and it may abate. Read: Rain likely to usher in pleasant weather The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs extends upto Northwest Bay.  Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and  moderate elsewhere over North Bay. Day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.    

Rain or thundershowers in the next 24 hours (from Friday evening) is likely to bring some relief to the people of the capital from the sweltering heat for the past many days. “Rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at a few places over Sylhet division and at one or two places over Dhaka, Mymensingh and Chattogram divisions.,” the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in a weather bulletin on Friday. However, the weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country. Besides, day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country. According to the bulletin, the trough of Westerly low lies over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining area. Seasonal low lies over South Bay, it added.
