Global Covid cases top 559 million
The overall number of Covid cases has now surpassed 559 million amid a rise in new infections in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 559,664,296 and the death toll from the virus reached 6,371,439 Saturday morning.
The US has recorded 90,273,079 cases so far and 1,045,740 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.
India recorded 18,815 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, taking the total tally to 43,585,554, showed data released by the federal health ministry on Friday.
A total of 379,470 Covid tests were conducted across the country in the past 24 hours, added the ministry.
Besides, 38 more deaths due to the pandemic since Thursday morning took the death toll to 525,343.

Covid in Bangladesh
Bangladesh registered seven more Covid-linked deaths with 1,611 cases in 24 hours till Friday morning amid a rapid surge in new infections.
The fresh numbers took the country's total caseload to 1,988,101 and the fatalities to 29,195, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The daily case positivity rate slightly rose to 16.82 per cent from Thursday’s 16.54 per cent as 9, 597 samples were tested during the period, said the DGHS.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.47 per cent. The recovery rate declined to 96.14 per cent from Thursday’s 96.17 per cent.

Global Covid cases top 421 million
The overall number of Covid cases has now surged past 421 million as Omicron infections keep rising across the globe.
According to Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 421,348,262 while the death toll from the virus reached 5,872, 338 Saturday morning.
The US has recorded 78,372,010 cases so far and 933,808 people have died from the virus in the country, the university data shows.
India's Covid-19 tally rose to 42,780,235 Friday, as 25,920 new cases were registered in 24 hours across the country, as per the federal health ministry's latest data.
Besides, 492 deaths due to the pandemic since Thursday morning took the total death toll to 510,905.
Meanwhile, Brazil, which has been experiencing a new wave of cases since January last year, registered 28,072,238 cases as of Friday, while its Covid death toll rose to 643,340.
Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh logged 24 more Covid-linked deaths with 2,584 fresh cases in 24 hours till Friday morning amid a downtrend trend in new infections.
The daily positivity rate declined to 9.31% from Thursday’s 10.24% after testing 27,692 samples during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The fresh numbers took the country’s total fatalities to 28,931 while the caseload mounted to 19,29,158.

Meanwhile, the mortality rate remained static at 1.50%.
However, the recovery rate slightly rose to 90.08% with the recovery of 9,988 more patients during the 24-hour period.
On January 28, Bangladesh logged its earlier highest daily positivity rate at 33.37% reporting 15,440 cases and 20 deaths.
On December 9 last year, Bangladesh again logged zero Covid-related death after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of easing.

The country reported first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.
Besides, the country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10 last year.

Global Covid cases top 224 million
The pandemic continues to devastate many countries across the world and the global Covid-19 caseload has now topped 224 million.
The total caseload and fatalities from the virus stand at 224, 215, 675 and 4,623,663, respectively, as of Sunday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
So far, 5,652,335,899 Covid vaccine doses have been administered across the globe.
The US has logged 40,920,922 cases and 659,691 deaths to date, according to the JHU data.
Brazil which has the world's second-highest pandemic death toll after the United States and the third-largest caseload after the United States and India, recorded 20,989,164 cases with 586,558 fatalities as of Sunday.

India's COVID-19 tally rose to 33,208,330 on Saturday, as 33,376 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, the federal health ministry's latest data showed.
Besides, as many as 308 deaths due to the pandemic since Friday morning took the total death toll to 442,317.
Most of the new cases and deaths were reported from the southern state of Kerala.

Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh logged 48 more Covid-19 deaths and 1,327 cases in 24 hours till Saturday morning.
The country reported 38 Covid-related deaths and 2,325 cases on Friday, indicating a significant drop in daily cases but a slight increase in fatalities, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The daily case positivity rate dropped further to 7.03 % from 8.65 % on Friday and 8.76 % on Thursday, suggesting that the pandemic keeps easing in Bangladesh.
Besides, the recovery rate rose to 96.51 per cent while the case fatality remained unchanged at 1.76 per cent compared to the corresponding period.

The overall number of global Covid cases is fast nearing 222 million, as the world is still struggling to contain the second wave of the pandemic even with mass inoculations underway.
According to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 221,873,412 and the death toll reached 4,585,547 on Wednesday morning.
So far, 5, 527,520,653 vaccine doses have been administered across the globe.
The US, which is the world's worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has so far logged 40,279,732 cases. Besides, 650,511people have lost their lives in the US to date, as per the JHU data.
Brazil currently has the world's second-highest pandemic death toll after the United States and the third-largest caseload after the United States and India.
The country has recorded 20,914,237 cases with 584,108 fatalities so far, according to the health ministry.

India's Covid-19 tally rose to 33,058,843 on Tuesday, and 31,222 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, as per the federal health ministry's latest data.

Covid situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh logged 56 Covid-19 deaths and 2,639 cases in 24 hours till Tuesday morning, showing a decline in single-day fatalities and cases as compared to Monday's figures.
The country reported 65 Covid-related deaths and 2,710 cases on Monday.
The daily case positivity rate also fell slightly to 9.69% from Monday's 9.88%, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Between May and June this year, there was a 273% rise in monthly caseloads and 162% in fatalities. In July, there was a 150% increase in caseloads and a 170% rise in deaths compared to the previous month, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The government on Tuesday started administering the second doses of Covid-19 vaccine under its mass vaccination campaign, aiming to fight the deadly virus.
Vaccination centres in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country drew huge crowds as vaccine seekers were seen standing close to each other with little or no regard for social distancing rules.

Rajshahi logs 10 more Covid deaths amid fall in cases and fatalities in country
Ten more Covid patients have died at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) in the past 24 hours, officials said on Sunday.
Of the fresh deaths, six were confirmed Covid-19 patients, three showed symptoms of the virus and one more died due to post-Covid complications, said hospital director Brigadier General Shamim Yeazdani.
Of the deceased, four were from Rajshahi and three Chapainawabganj and one each from Naogaon, Kushtia and Natore districts.
Shamim said that 27 people have been admitted to the Corona unit of the hospital in the past 24 hours. On the other hand, some 24 people were discharged from the hospital after recovery during the period.

Besides, some 145 people are currently undergoing treatment in the 513-bed corona unit of the hospital.
Some 37 people have died in the last 5 days at the hospital . Of them, 16 people died of Covid-19, 14 died after showing Covid symptoms and five people died due to different complications.

The global Covid-19 caseload has now surpassed 220 million, with the world still grappling to contain the pandemic.
The total caseload and fatalities now stand at 220, 223,874 and 4,560,727 respectively as of Sunday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
So far, 5,427,674, 383 vaccine doses have been administered across the world.

Bangladesh to reopen schools
Primary, secondary and higher secondary educational institutions in the country will reopen on September 12 after a prolonged closure, said Education Minister Dipu Moni on Friday.
“The decision was taken at a joint meeting of the Education Ministry, Ministry of Primary and Mass education and the National Technical Advisory Committee held on Thursday night,” she said at a function in Chandpur sadar upazila.
“Hopefully, we’ll be able to reopen all the schools, colleges, including madrasas, on September 12 as per the decision,” Dipu Moni said.

Neighbouring India's total Covid cases surpassed 32.5 million on Wednesday. The country’s total death toll reached 435,758.
According to the World Health Organization, Covid-19 in India may be entering an endemic stage with a low or moderate level of transmission going on.
The endemic stage is when a population learns to live with a virus. It is very different to the epidemic stage when the virus overwhelms a population, reports Xinhua.

Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh logged 114 Covid-19 deaths in 24 hours until Wednesday morning amid a steady decline in both cases and positivity rate raising hope for further improvement.
This was for the second consecutive day that the number of fatalities stood at 114, the lowest in the past two months.
The number of fresh Covid cases is also seeing a downtrend as 4,966 people tested positive during this time compared to 5,249 the previous day.

The recovery rate rose to 94.02%, but the case fatality remained unchanged at 1.73% compared to the same period.
The government will start administering the second dose of Covid-19 vaccines under its mass inoculation campaign on September 7, according to the head of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
