Li Jiming pays farewell call on Raushon
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming Thursday paid a farewell call on opposition leader in parliament Raushon Ershad in the capital.
The envoy paid the visit at a city hotel around 11am, Golam Masih, political secretary to the Jatiya Party leader, said.
During the meeting, Li and Raushon discussed issues of bilateral interests.Raushon hoped that China would continue its cooperation with Bangladesh in the future.

Raushon Ershad returns home, calls for JP unity
Jatiya Party leader Raushon Ershad on Sunday returned home after treatment in Thailand and called for keeping the party united removing misunderstandings through discussions.
A Thai Airways flight carrying Raushon, also the leader of the opposition in Parliament, landed at Hazrat Shahjal International Airport at 12:25pm.
Later talking to reporters at the airport’s VIP Lounge, she said “I always want the unity of the Jatiya Party…there is no question of splitting the party,” she said.
She said there could be some conspiracy to weaken the party like in the past. “InshAllah, we’ll foil those conspiracies and build a united and strong Jatiya Party,” she said.
Raushon, the 78-year-old widow of Jatiya Party founder and late president HM Ershad, also claimed that she has no conflict with the party chairman and her brother-in-law GM Quader.
“I have returned to Dhaka and I will sit with all MPs, presidium members, and others to remove confusion and misunderstanding. I am sure, we’ll be able to eliminate the misunderstanding and return to the political program unitedly soon,” Raushon said.
The opposition leader called upon those who left Jatiya Party at different times with Anwar Hossain Manju, Naziur Rahman Manzur and Kazi Jafar Ahmed to return to the party.
“We must give due recognitions to those who were with us during the difficult and adverse times of the Jatiya Party from 1991 to 1996,” she said.

Raushon said their party will nominate a competent candidate to vie for the mayoral post in Rangpur City Corporation polls billed for December 27.
Replying to a question, the opposition leader said Jatiya Party has no reason to make any alliance with BNP ahead of the next general election.
“People want a change for progress and peace, which only the Jatiya Party can ensure, not BNP. “There is no question of forging any alliance with the BNP,” she said.
Asked whether the Jatiya Party will be in alliance with the Awami League in the 12th parliamentary election, Raushon parried the question saying, “Time will tell”.
About her physical condition, Raushon said she is now fine, but still have some problem with her leg for which she has been taking physiotherapy.
Raushon thanked the Prime Minister for supporting her and inquiring about her health condition during her treatment in Bangkok.
She said the current geopolitics, particularly the war in Ukraine created serious economic problems, which has also affected Bangladesh. “So, we all must remain more alert and cooperate with the government to face the challenges,” she added.

Rahgir Al Mahi Ershad (better known as Saad Ershad) and his wife Mahima Saad as well as spokesperson of Raushon Ershad Kazi Mamunur Rashid also returned home with the opposition leader.
JP leaders ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader, Kazi Firoz Rashid MP, Syed Abu Hossain Babla MP, Opposition Chief Whip Mashiur Rahman Ranga, Prof Delwar Hossain, Sunil Shuvo Ray and Golam Moshi, among others, were present at the airport to welcome the Opposition Leader, said a press release.
On July 5, Raushon went to Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, for follow-up treatment.
Earlier on November 5 last year, she was flown to Thailand by an air ambulance as her health condition turned critical. She returned home on June 27 and stayed eight days in the country before going to Thailand for further treatment.
As in the previous time, she went to Westin Hotel in the city’s Gulshan area from the airport instead of her residence to stay there, party sources said.
Raushon has returned home at a time when Jatiya Party is divided over her previous call for holding the party council while Mosiur Rahman Ranga was recently removed from the party’s all posts.
As a result of the party’s internal feud, JP MPs sent a letter to the Speaker of the Parliament to recognise GM Quader as the opposition leader, removing Raushon Ershad.
Meanwhile, a court issued an injunction barring GM Quader from taking any political decision regarding the party on October 31 following an application filed by former JP lawmaker advocate Ziaul Haque Mridha, who was expelled from the party on September 17.

Raushon Ershad to return home on Nov 27
Opposition Leader Raushon Ershad will return to Bangladesh from Bangkok, Thailand, on November 27 after nearly five months of stay there for treatment.
She will reach the Hazrat Shahjajal International Airport at about 12:00 pm in a flight of Thai Airways, according to a press release from opposition leader’s office at Parliament.

Rahgir Al Mahi Saad Ershad MP (Rangpur-3) along with his wife Mahima Ershad will accompany Raushon.

Raushon expressed her special gratitude to leaders and activists of Jatiya Party, well-wishers and the people for praying for her recovery.

No one from JP inquired about my condition during stay in hospital: Raushon
Leader of the Opposition in parliament Raushon Ershad on Saturday bemoaned that no one from the Jatiya Party inquired about her condition during her long stay at a hospital in Thailand.
Speaking at a views exchange meeting with party leaders and activists at a hotel in the city, she also said Jatiya Party has been in a mess following the death of its founder and her husband HM Ershad.
“I had been under treatment for over long six months at a hospital in Thailand. No one from the party inquired about me. But I inquired about all,” the opposition leader said.
She, however, said two, who were expelled from the party, tried to know her health condition and arranged different prayer sessions at mosques and other worship places seeking her recovery.

Raushon, also the chief patron of the Jatiya Party, said Jatiya Party could have been in a different position had HM Ershad remained alive.
She said it is necessary to bring back those who have been left out of the Jatiya Party or left the party at different times. “Otherwise, we will fall far behind.”
Besides, the Jatiya Party leader said the new generation needs to be inducted into the party to make it as stronger as Awami League and BNP. “Or else, we won’t be able to survive in politics. ”
She also said the organizational strength of the Jatiya Party will have to be enhanced with the united efforts of all its leaders and activists.
Raushon said she could not hold back her tears seeing so many people there at the airport to greet her as she returned home.
Earlier on June 27, Raushon returned home from Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, after nearly seven and a half months of stay there for medical treatment.
She also joined the Parliament session on Thursday.
Her son Rahgir Al Mahi Saad Ershad MP (Rangpur-3) his mother is now fine, but very weak.
“She has problems in her legs and still can’t walk properly. It may take time for her to gain back her strength. She needs more physiotherapy,” he said.
Saad said Raushon will also go to Bangkok for follow-up treatment on July 4 next.

Raushon Ershad returns home from Thailand
Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Raushon Ershad returned home from Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, on Monday after nearly seven and a half months of stay there for medical treatment.
She reached Hazrat Shahjajal International Airport around 12 noon, said her assistant private secretary Md Mamum Hasan.

Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader along with the party’s senior leaders welcomed the opposition leader at the airport.
Earlier on Sunday, GM Quader said Raushon, the chief patron of the Jatiya Party, was now doing well as her physical condition improved a lot.
Rahgir Al Mahi Saad Ershad MP (Rangpur-3) who along with his wife Mahima Ershad accompanied Raushon in Bangkok throughout her stay there said his mother is now fine, but very weak.
“She has problems in her legs and still can’t walk properly. It may take time for her to gain back her strength. She needs more physiotherapy,” he said.

Raushon doing well, set to return home Monday: GM Quader
Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Raushon Ershad is set to return home from Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, on Monday after nearly seven and a half months of stay there for medical treatment.
She is scheduled to reach Hazrat Shahjajal International Airport at 12:10pm, said Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader who returned home from Thailand on Sunday noon.

He said Raushon, also the chief patron of the Jatiya Party, is now doing well.
“Her physical condition has improved a lot,” the Jatiya Party Chairman said.
He asked party leaders and activists who are not preoccupied to be present at the airport by 12 pm to welcome Raushon.
Earlier on Thursday, GM Quader went to Thailand to visit Raushon.
Contacted, her son Rahgir Al Mahi Saad Ershad MP (Rangpur-3) who along with his wife Mahima Ershad has been accompanying Raushon in Bangkok since she went there said her mother is now fine, but very weak.

Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Begum Raushon Ershad and Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader on Tuesday greeted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ahead of Bangla New Year (Pahela Baishakh).

Raushon and Quader, also Deputy Leader of the Opposition, greeted the Prime Minister by sending greeting cards to her, according to the Prime Minister's Press Wing.
A spokesperson for the wing said PM’s Protocol Officer-2 Md Abu Zafar Raju received the greeting cards at his office in the PMO in the morning from the Opposition Leader’s private secretary AKM Abdur Rahim and Jatiya Party Chairman’s Assistant Private Secretary Advocate Abu Taiyab.

Opposition Leader Raushon Ershad on Friday was taken to the Thai capital of Bangkok for better medical treatment.
She was taken by an air ambulance at 6:25pm where she will be admitted to the Bumrungrad Hospital, her assistant private secretary Md Mamum Hasan told UNB.

People need to be informed about Covid variants: Raushon
Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Raushon Ershad on Tuesday called upon the government to inform people about the Covid variants that have so far been found in Bangladesh and their characteristics alongside taking necessary steps to tackle those.
In a statement, Raushon said, “The corona pandemic is slowing down the progress and advancement in all spheres of life. The government should take emergency steps, including sending out messages to protect people from a dangerous catastrophe in the medical system like the neighbouring country.”
Raushon also urged the government to work together with people taking effective policies, strategies and action plans to deal with the pandemic.

She called upon the government to provide every district with necessary support and equipment to combat the prevalence of the virus.
Raushon suggested the government give guidelines on production and import of medicines, masks, sanitizers, testing kits and PPE through local industries.
Stating that the Covid-19 treatment cost is very expensive in Bangladesh, she said it is difficult for low- and middle-income people to afford such expenses.
The opposition leader said the private companies should be allowed to import Covid vaccines and provide those among people alongside the government.

She requested the government to take necessary steps, including increasing subsidies, to reduce the treatment expenses in hospitals.
Raushon bemoaned that when the country is going through a difficult time due to the coronavirus outbreak, many people are still showing apathy to health safety rules.
She warned that the overall Covid situation may turn worse in the days to come if everyone is not forced to maintain health hygiene.

Maximum energy, strength need to be employed to tackle Covid: Raushon
Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Raushon Ershad on Sunday urged the government to employ its maximum energy and strength to tackle the rapid surge in coronavirus infections.
“Experts fear the situation will be dire the way corona infection is growing. Hospitals mow can’t accommodate patients. Under such a situation, it’s very difficult to control the virus spread,” she said.
Delivering her valedictory speech at the 12th session of the 11th parliament, Raushon said the corona-testing capacity should be increased further as people now cannot undergo tests after waiting for hours.

“The facilities for isolation must be enhanced. Maximum strength must be employed to tackle the corona infections,” she added.
The opposition leader deplored that people are showing apathy to health safety rules amid the spike in the Covid cases in Bangladesh.
“There’s hardly any caution among people. The 18-point directive announced by the government is barely followed. People don't wear masks. They get annoyed if they’re given sanitiser. Many people are walking around the book fair without masks,” Raushon observed.
She appreciated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her untiring efforts to control the coronavirus outbreak. “The Prime Minister has been working round the clock to prevent the corona infections. What will be the outcome, if we don’t be cautious?”

The opposition leader said people need to be cautious and provide the government with all-out cooperation by maintaining its directives to slow down the virus transmission.
She said Bangladesh has got the status of a developing country while the country’s GDP growth rate has marked a significant rise.
“The average life expectancy has increased over the few years. Metrorail is being constructed for the development of public transport and the construction of Padma Bridge is nearing completion. The standard of living has also improved. But inequality has increased seriously,” Rahuson said.
She said instability and people’s sense of insecurity have increased, too.” We still couldn’t ensure safe food for people. Three lakh people are getting infected with various diseases every year by consuming adulterated food,” she lamented.
