BOA reconstitutes its Athlete Commission
Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) reconstituted its "Athlete Commission" with current and former national players of Bangladesh, following the tenure of previous commission.
The BOA formed its first athlete commission in 2019 for a four- year term as per the prescription of the International Olympic Committee to serve interest of the athletes inside and outside the playing arena.

After the expiry of the previous commission recently, the BOA formed a seven-member BOA Athlete Commission for next four years.
Members of the BOA Athlete Commission are- Farhad Jesmin Lity (former national athlete), Mahfuza Khatun Shila (former national swimmer), M Siddikur Rahman ( national golfer), Shakil Ahmed ( national shooter), Sur Krishna Chakma (national boxer), Mabia Akter Simanta ( national weightlifter) and Diya Siddiqui (national archer).

Meanwhile, Farhad Jesmin Lity made the chairman of the newly formed commision in its first meeting held on Sunday (December 24) where BOA secretary general Syed Shahed Reza was also present.

Genuinely excited to welcome Bangladesh Olympic team to Tokyo: Japanese envoy
The Embassy of Japan and Bangladesh Olympic Association on Tuesday jointly organized the encouragement rally for the Bangladeshi Olympic team virtually as the host is excited to welcome the Bangladesh Olympic team to Tokyo. Three Olympians representing Bangladesh - Ruman Shana, Junayna Ahmed and Abdullah Hel Baki attended the rally.
Zahid Ahsan Russel, State Minister of Youth and Sports attended it as the chief guest.
Md. Akhter Hossain, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Youth & Sports, Shaikh Bashir Ahmed, Vice President of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA), Syed Shahed Reza, Secretary General, BOA, and other high officials also attended the rally.
Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ito Naoki said as the host nation, they are genuinely excited to welcome the Bangladesh Olympic team to Tokyo.

"On behalf of the Japanese government and Japanese people residing in Bangladesh, I would like to convey my best wishes and a hearty send-off to the Bangladeshi Olympic team," he said.
The Ambassador said they are committed to ensuring that the Games are held safe and secure.
"Therefore, please rest assured and visit Japan without any worry. Do concentrate on your performance. The safe and secure Games in Tokyo will show the world that we can unite people's hearts and minds globally and get over the difficulties with the efforts and wisdom of humankind," said the Ambassador.
Showing gratitude to everyone, Ruman Shana and Junayna Ahmed expressed their goals to achieve their best result this time.
Zahid Ahsan Russel said, “I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude for organizing this pre-departure reception for Bangladesh contingent on the evening of attending TOKYO 2020 Olympic Games virtually."
He said this is a remarkable moment for Bangladesh and her best friend Japan as well.

BOA to observe Olympic Day on Wednesday
Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) will observe Olympic Day 21, a global program on the occasion of the 127th founding anniversary of International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the capital on Wednesday (June 23) .
On the occasion, the BOA, as a member of IOC, has arranged a brief program this time cancelling the traditional 'Olympic Day Run' to celebrate the day due to Covid-19 pandemic.
The day's BOA program includes hoisting of flag at Olympic Bhavan in the city at 11 am, seminar at Dutch- Bangla auditorium of BOA at 12 noon and Anti Doping Workshop at 4 pm at the same venue.

Bangabandhu Bangladesh Games to continue until govt order comes: BOA Secy Gen
The ongoing edition of Bangabandhu Bangladesh Games will continue although the government is set to enforce a 7-day lockdown from Monday to stem the spread of Covid-19.
This sports event kicked off on April 1 and will continue until April 10 , says the organizer of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA)

While talking to the media in this regard, BOA Secretary General Syed Shahed Reza said they are going to continue the event until any further instructions from the government.
“For now, the games will continue,” he said. “We have to see what instructions come from the government. We will make a final decision once we get the government’s instruction.”
The chairman of the steering committee of the event, Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Mamun, said that the event will continue.

“The event will continue before the government issues a gazette. Once the notice gazette is issued, we will discuss the matter with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. And the finals of many events are scheduled to take place on April 4, so the event must go on,” he told the media.

PM opens Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina opened multi-sport extravaganza Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games on Thursday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital.
She joined the inaugural ceremony from her official residence Ganobhaban virtually in the evening.
Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) is organising the Bangladesh Games at 29 separate venues across the country.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Hasina urged all athletes of 31 sports disciplines of the Games to make themselves fit enough to compete in the Olympics in the future.
“Alongside showing your skills in (9th Bangladesh Games), make yourselves properly fit to participate in the Olympic Games anywhere in the world in the future,” she said.
She said the government will take steps to arrange international training to make sportspersons prepared so that they can take part in some events of the Olympic Games. “We want to develop our athletes in such a way,” she said.
The PM urged all the athletes to follow the health protection rules as it is being held amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

She also asked the organiser to pay attention so that health rules are maintained during the Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games.
Sheikh Hasina said sports are absolutely needed, particularly for our small children and youths.
