Ten more people have died of Covid-19 and related complications at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) in the past 24 hours, health officials said on Wednesday. Three of them died of Covid, while four had symptoms of the virus and the remaining three succumbed to post-corona complications, said hospital director Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani. Read: 21 more die of Covid at Rajshahi hospital Of the deceased, two each were from Rajshahi, Naogaon and Natore districts, three from Pabna and one from Chapainawabganj district. Besides, 29 people have been admitted to the corona unit of the hospital in the past 24 hours. On the other hand, some 37 people were discharged from the hospital after recovery during the period. Of them, 20 are being treated in the ICU, said the hospital director. RMCH has been one of the most stretched hospitals in the country during the second wave of Covid-19, particularly since the latter part of May when the deadly Delta variant was identified in multiple samples in Rajshahi division. 

As many as 19 more people have died of Covid-related reasons at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) in the past 24 hours, health officials said on Tuesday. Of the deceased, seven were from Rajshahi, four from Chapainawabganj, five from  Natore, two from Naogaon and one from Pabna. While nine of them were men, the remaining were women. Shamim said that 47 people have been admitted to the corona unit of the hospital in the past 24 hours. On the other hand, some 30 people were discharged from the hospital after recovery during the period. RMCH has been one of the most stretched hospitals in the country during the second wave of Covid-19, particularly since the latter part of May when the deadly Delta variant of the virus was identified in multiple samples of Rajshahi division.

A 60-year-old woman has been diagnosed with black fungus at Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). This is the first case of the rare fungal infection in the district. "The victim -- Ferdousi Begum, of Patiya upazila -- recently recovered from Covid-19. She has been undergoing treatment for mucormycosis (black fungus) at the hospital for the last 3-4 days," said Dr Suzat Pal, head of CMCH's medicine department. According to family sources, Ferdousi tested positive for Covid on July 3. After undergoing treatment for 10-12 days, she tested negative on July 15. But she had to admitted to CMCH again, following post-Covid complications. Ferdousi’s husband died of Covid-19 a few days back. On May 25, the first cases of black fungus in Bangladesh were detected in two Covid-recovered patients at Birdem General Hospital. “The government will take necessary steps if there is a rise in the number of patients with black fungus rise in the country. Black fungus is contagious," the Civil Surgeon said. The fungus affects many areas of the body including the eyes, nose, face, and even the brain in severe cases. However, in recent months, India, where states have been told to declare the disease as an epidemic, reportedly saw many black fungus cases affecting recovered and recovering Covid-19 patients.

A lot more research is needed into the “constellation” of sometimes debilitating symptoms among people who’ve recovered from Covid-19, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday.
