Bangladesh's national hockey team made a good start to the nine-nation Men's Asian Games Qualifiers, defeating Indonesia 3-1 in Saturday's match in Thai capital Bangkok. In March last too, Bangladesh outplayed hosts Indonesia 7-2 in the AHF Cup Hockey Tournament. Bangladesh, which was placed in four-team Pool B of the Men's Asian Games Qualifiers with Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Singapore, will face Sri Lanka on May 10 and Singapore on May 12 in the remaining group matches. In the day's first match in Bangkok, Sarwar Hossain put Bangladesh ahead by a field goal in the 10th minute of the match (1-0). Forward Pushkar Khisha Mimo doubled the Bangladesh margin in the eighth minute of the 2nd quarter also by a field goal (2-0). Indonesia reduced the margin in the ninth minute of the 3rd quarter (2-1).  Finally, midfielder Fazle Hossain Rabbi sealed the fate of the match scoring one more field goal in the 10th minute of the quarter (3-1). Bangladesh captain Rezaul Karim Babu displayed his brilliance in the field and was adjudged man of the match. The Hangzhou Asian Games was scheduled for September 10-25 this year in China. On completion of the Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers, the Bangladesh team, led by new captain Khorshedur Rahman, will travel to Indonesia to compete in the Men's Asia Cup Hockey in Jakarta from May 23 to June 1. In the eight-nation Hero Men's Asia Cup Hockey, Bangladesh has also been placed in Pool B with Malaysia, Korea and Oman. Bangladesh will face Korea on May 23, Oman on May 24 and Malaysia on May 26. Bangladesh earned their 2nd consecutive victory in the qualifying round of the Commonwealth Games Women's Cricket beating Kenya by 80 runs at Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur Wednesday. With the day’s result, Bangladesh top the five-team list securing full four points from straight two matches while Sri Lanka and Scotland followed them with two points each playing one and two matches respectively. READ: U-19 World Cup: Bangladesh to play Canada on Thursday Sent into bat first, Bangladesh scored 125 runs for 6 in stipulated 20 overs, despite losing their first 5 wickets for 50 runs. Lower order Ritu Moni scored the Bangladesh highest and unbeaten 39 runs off 34 balls featuring three boundaries, number seven Salma Khatun contributed 32-ball 33 runs also with three fours while opener Murshida made 19-ball 26 runs hitting four hits to the fences. Queentor Abel of Kenya grabbed three wickets for 14 runs. Chasing a target of 126 runs, Kenya were bundled out for 45 runs in 12.4 overs against devastating bowling by spinner Nahida Akhter, Nahida Akhter of Bangladesh grabbed five wickets conceding only 12 runs in her 3.4 over spell and was adjudged player of the match.   

The AFC Asian Cup has officially chosen the UAE to host the remaining matches of the joint qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup and Asia 2023 for Group G, which includes the national teams of UAE, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Australia’s World Cup qualifying match against Nepal on March 30 has been postponed, leaving only three games to be played in Asia this month as organizers consider central locations to finish the second round by mid-June.
