India's COVID-19 tally rises to 36,317,927, over 200,000 cases reported in 24 hours
India's COVID-19 tally rose to 36,317,927 on Thursday, as 247,417 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry's latest data.
This is the first day when more than 200,000 new cases were registered in a day in the country in over eight months.
Besides, 380 deaths due to the pandemic since Wednesday morning took the total death toll to 485,035.

There are 1,117,531 active COVID-19 cases in the country, with a rise of 162,212 active cases over the past 24 hours. This is the 16th consecutive day when the number of active cases rose in the country.
A total of 34,715,361 people have been cured and discharged from hospitals so far, out of which 84,825 were discharged during the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the country's Omicron tally has reached 5,488, in which Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Delhi have reported 1,367, 792 and 549 cases, respectively. To date, 2,162 Omicron patients have been discharged after recovery, as per the federal Health Ministry's data.

India's COVID-19 tally crosses 30 million
India's COVID-19 tally surpassed 30 million-mark and the death toll crossed 390,000 on Wednesday, said the federal health ministry.
While the tally rose to 30,028,709, the aggregate death toll reached 390,660.
As many as 50,848 new cases and 1,358 deaths were registered across the country during the past 24 hours.

Still there are 643,194 active cases, as there was a decrease of 19,327 cases since Tuesday morning.

A total of 28,994,855 people have been discharged after successful treatment from hospitals, out of whom 68,817 patients were discharged in the past 24 hours.

India's COVID-19 tally crosses 28 million as daily cases fall
India's COVID-19 tally surpassed the 28 million-mark on Monday, reaching 28,047,534 with 152,734 new cases reported in the past 24 hours, said the federal health ministry.
The daily spike of new cases has been falling over the past couple of weeks.

Besides, as many as 3,128 deaths since Sunday morning took the overall death toll to 329,100.
There are still 2,026,092 active cases in the country, as there was a decrease of 88,416 cases in the past 24 hours. The number of daily active cases has been on the decline over the past few days, after a continuous surge since mid-April.

A total of 25,692,342 people have been cured and discharged from hospitals so far across the country, showed the latest data from the federal health ministry.

India reports over 380,000 new cases, tally at 20,665,148
India's COVID-19 tally reached 20,665,148 on Wednesday with as many as 382,315 new cases registered during the past 24 hours, confirmed the federal health ministry.
Besides, 3,780 deaths were also reported, taking the death toll to 226,188.

There are still a total of 3,487,229 active cases in the country, with an increase of 40,096 active cases through Tuesday, as 16,951,731 people have been cured and discharged from hospitals so far across the country.
The COVID-19 figures continue to peak in the country every day. The federal government has ruled out imposing a complete lockdown to contain the worsening situation though some states have imposed night curfews or partial lockdowns.
Delhi has been put under a third successive lockdown till May 10.
While some school examinations are cancelled, others have been postponed in the wake of COVID-19 situation.
The number of daily active cases has been on the rise over the past few weeks. In January the number of daily cases in the country had come down to below 10,000. As many as 9,102 new cases were reported between January 25-26, which was the lowest in the previous 237 days. Prior to that the lowest number of daily new cases were 9,304 registered on June 4, 2020.
January 16 was a crucial day in India's fight against the pandemic as the nationwide vaccination drive was kicked off during the day. So far over 160 million vaccination doses (160,494,188) have been administered to the people across the country.

Online registration began last Wednesday for vaccinating people aged above 18. This is the third phase of COVID-19 vaccination, which began on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the federal government has ramped up COVID-19 testing facilities across the country, even as over 294 million tests have been conducted so far.
As many as 294,852,078 tests were conducted till Tuesday, out of which 1,541,299 tests were conducted on Tuesday alone, said the latest data issued by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Wednesday.
The national capital Delhi, which has been one of the most COVID-19- affected places in the country, witnessed 19,953 new cases and 338 deaths through Tuesday.
So far as many as 17,752 people have died in the national capital due to COVID-19, confirmed Delhi's health department.

Two types of vaccines are being administered in India. While the "Covishield" vaccine, made by the "Serum Institute of India (SII)", was supplied to all states, the "Covaxin" vaccine, made by the "Bharat Biotech International Limited", was supplied to only 12 states.
Meanwhile, India received its first doses of Sputnik-V, the Russian-made vaccine, on Saturday.

India's COVID-19 tally crosses 20 million
India's COVID-19 tally crossed the 20-million mark, reaching 20,282,833 on Tuesday, as 357,229 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, confirmed the federal health ministry.
Another 3,449 deaths were reported since Monday morning, taking the death toll to 222,408.

There are a total of 3,447,133 active cases in the country, with an increase of 33,491 through Monday, while 16,613,292 people have recovered and been discharged from hospitals so far.
The COVID-19 figures continue to peak in the country, but the federal government has ruled out imposing a complete lockdown. Some states have imposed night curfews or partial lockdowns, while the capital New Delhi has been put under a third successive lockdown till May 10.
Meanwhile, 293,310,779 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in India till Monday, out of which 1,663,742 tests were conducted on Monday alone, said the latest data issued by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Tuesday.

The national capital New Delhi, one of the most COVID-19 affected places in the country, witnessed 18,043 new cases and 448 more deaths through Monday. So far 17,414 people have died in the national capital due to COVID-19, confirmed Delhi's health department.
The third phase of the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination began on May 1. So far, over 158 million vaccination doses have been administered in India since the country kicked off its inoculation drive in January.

Bangladesh’s Covid-19 tally crosses 6 lakh
The country’s coronavirus caseload swelled to 600,895 on Monday after the health authorities recorded 5,181 new cases in 24 hours until the morning.
Along with the high number of cases, 45 coronavirus-related deaths were also recorded, pushing the death tally to 8,949, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a handout.

The latest cases were reported after testing 28,195 samples.
The infection rate jumped to 18.38 percent on Monday from 17.65 percent on Sunday.
However, the death rate stands at 1.49 percent.
During this 24-hour period, 2,077 coronavirus patients recovered. So far, 538,018 patients have made recoveries.

Twenty-eight people died in Dhaka Division, six in Chattogram, five in Rajshahi, three in Khulna and one each in Barishal, Mymensingh and Rangpur.

Global Covid-19 cases surpass 124 million
With the Covid-19 situation worsening around the world, the global caseload crossed 124 million on Wednesday.
According to Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the global Covid-19 tally and fatalities now stand at 124,143,841 and 2,733,380, respectively.
The US has recorded the highest number of cases and deaths since the beginning of the pandemic. The North American country's case count and deaths now stand at 29,920,561 and 543,793, respectively, as per the latest university data.
Brazil reported more than 3,000 Covid-19 deaths in a single day for the first time on Tuesday, amid calls for the government and the new health minister to take action to stem the nation’s resurgence of coronavirus infections, reports AP.
In recent weeks, Latin America’s largest country has become the pandemic’s global epicentre, with more deaths from the virus each day than in any other nation.
Tuesday’s record toll of 3,251 deaths was driven by the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil’s most populous, which recorded 1,021 new fatalities, far above the previous high of 713 last July.
The total case count reached 12,130,091 while deaths climbed to 298,676 on Wednesday morning.
Brazil is one of the countries hardest hit by the virus worldwide in terms of both deaths and cases, second only to the United States.

India's Covid-19 tally reached 11,686,796 on Wednesday, as 40,715 new cases were reported from across the country.
Besides, 199 deaths since Monday morning took the toll to 160,166, showing the highest number of fatalities in a day this year so far.
Situation in Bangladesh
Some 3,554 people were diagnosed with Covid-19 in Bangladesh in 24 hours till Tuesday morning, the highest number of infections registered by the country in a single day.
Bangladesh also recorded 18 more Covid-related deaths during the period, raising the death toll to 8,738.

With the fresh cases, Bangladesh has seen the worst daily increase since July 15, 2020, pushing up the total infections to 525,994. The infection rate jumped to 13.69 percent from 11.19 percent a day before.
Bangladesh is seeing an alarming rise in coronavirus infections in the past few weeks after a downtrend in both the death toll and new cases.
On January 19, Bangladesh reported its virus infection rate at just 5 percent and at one stage it fell below 3 percent. The cases have started soaring again since February 9.
Bangladesh reported its first Covid-19 cases on March 8, 2020, and the first death on March 18 the same year.
In Bangladesh, Covid-19 tests are conducted at 118 government and private hospitals.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 vaccination drive is underway across the country. So far, 4,911,902 people have been vaccinated in the country since the drive began with the Oxford-AstraZeneca jab on February 7.
