Cyber tribunal orders probe against suspended Gazipur mayor under DSA
A cyber tribunal on Monday asked CID police to investigate allegations that recently-suspended mayor of Gazipur Jahangir Alam made derogatory remarks about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangladesh liberation war.
Dhaka Cybder Tribunal Judge Ash-Shams Jaglul Hussein gave CID until January 6 to submit its probe report after Supreme Court lawyer Omar Faruk Asif filed a complaint against Jahangir under Digital Security Act.
This was confirmed by public prosecutor Nazrul Islam Shamim.

Jahangir has already lost his mayoral office besides axed as general secretary of Gazipur city unit of Awami League and expelled from the party for life.
The AL central committee came hard on him after video clips in which he made the controversial comments went viral on social media.
On November 23, another case under DSA was filed against Jahangir in Rajbari.
Also on Sunday, a defamation case was also filed against him with Gazipur Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.

Atiqur Rahman, chairman of International Language Movement council filed the Tk 100-crore case against Jahangir saying that his derogatory remarks have undermined Bangabandhu’s image and the honour of Bangladesh and Bengali nation.

Photojournalist Kajol indicted in 3 DSA cases
The cyber tribunal in Dhaka on Monday framed charges against photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol in three cases filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA).
Judge Ash Sams Joglul Hossain of the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal fixed January 2 for the formal trial to begin with the deposition of witnesses.
Journalist Kajal, now on bail, pleaded innocence and demanded justice.

Earlier, the hearing on charge framing in the cases was scheduled to be held on October 21. As the judge of the tribunal Ash Sams Joglul Hossain was on leave, acting judge Iqbal Hossain fixed November 8 for the hearing.
Kajol went missing on March 10, 2020, a day after Magura-1 MP Saifuzzaman Shikhor filed a case against him and 31 others, including Manab Zamin Editor Matiur Rahman Chowdhury.
They were sued under the DSA for publishing and sharing an article on social media about expelled Jubo Mohila League leader Shamima Noor Papia.
Two other cases were filed against Kajol at Kamrangir Char and Hazaribagh police stations under the same act on March 10 and 11 last year.
After his 53 days of disappearance, Kajol was detained by Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) near the Benapole border on May 3,2020 and produced in a Jashore court on the same day.

Although the court granted him bail in the case, he was sent to jail as Kotwali police brought another charge against him under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
On October 19, 2020, the High Court issued a rule asking the government to explain why photojournalist Kajol should not be granted bail in the case filed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
On November 24, 2020, the photojournalist secured bail in another case filed against him under the DSA.
On December 17, that year, the High Court granted him bail in two cases filed under the DSA, clearing the way for his release.
He was freed from Dhaka Central Jail on December 25 last year.

DSA case against journalist Kajol shifted to Cyber Tribunal
A case filed against photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol under the Digital Security Act (DSA) at Kamrangirchar Police Station was transferred to Dhaka Cyber Tribunal on Sunday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debdash Chandra Adhikari passed the order as Kajol stood in the dock. The court took the charges into cognisance and shifted it to the Cyber Tribunal for trial.
Investigation Officer Md Rassel Mollah submitted the chargesheet on March 14.

Jubo Mohila League central leader Sumaiya Chowdhury Bonnya filed the case on March 11 last year accusing Kajol of writing defamatory remarks about various MPs on his Facebook profile.
He was freed from the Dhaka Central Jail on December 25 last year.
On December 17, the High Court granted him bail in two cases filed under the DSA, clearing the way for his release.

On November 24 that year, the journalist secured bail in another case filed against him under the DSA.
