Verdict
Winning the first match would boost confidence among the players. Therefore, both sides would be ready to give it their best in this encounter. Bangladesh did not do well in the practice matches, but the results exposed the true weaknesses of the squad. Bangladesh team management must come up with a proper plan in the main event of the T20 World Cup 2021. Otherwise, they would not be able to showcase their true potential in the competition. On the other side, Scotland would be looking to maintain their perfect (T20 match) record against Bangladesh.

Sheikh Jamal end Mohammedan’s winning run
Coming into the fourth round of the ongoing Banglabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League, Mohammedan Sporting Club suffered their first defeat at the hands of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club on Monday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
It was Nurul Hasan Sohan, the wicketkeeper-batsman, whose previous highest score this season was just 22, who came up with a whirlwind 66 off 34 deliveries with four fours and five sixes and helped his team to post a challenging total of 161 runs for five in 20 overs.

Mohammedan failed to chase down the target of 162 despite a 43-ball 57 by Nadif Chowdhury. Ebadat Hossain and Enamul Haque bagged three early wickets to destroy their top-order, and Mohammedan failed to recover from that early damage.
Sheikh Jamal won the toss and batted in an unexpected way to score only 85 runs for five in 15 0vers. But in the last five overs, they added 76 runs without losing any more wickets, thanks to some big hittings from Nurul and Ziaur Rahman who ended up on 35 off 17 balls with one four and three sixes.
Shakib Al Hasan and Abu Hider took two wickets each. Abu Hider conceded 53 runs in four overs.

Along with him, Irfan Sukkur, who also had hit a fifty in the second game of the season, suffered second consecutive duck, and in between them, Shakib only posted two runs.
Mohammedan’s last ray of hope was the bats of Shamsur Rahman and Nadif Chowdhey, who came up with a 48-run stand in the fifth wicket partnership. But they eventually ended up on 145 for eight in 20 overs and lost the game by 16 runs.
For Sheikh Jamal, Enamul bagged three wickets while Ziaur took two.

Bangladesh to rely more on pacers in Sri Lanka Tests
Bangladesh’s captain Mominul Haque has said they are going to rely on the pace bowling attack more in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.Mominul appeared in the pre-series press conference virtually on Tuesday afternoon before the squad was announced. It is an unusual practice for a Test captain to face the media before an event without knowing which team he will lead.

After the pre-event press conference, BCB announced a 15-member squad for the first Test including uncapped pacer Shoriful Islam who played only eight First-class matches and grabbed 22 wickets.
In the last five years, Bangladesh won only one overseas Test which was against Sri Lanka in 2017. Bangladesh captain said they are confident to replicate that performance in this series and to do that, they are relying more on the pace attack.“We'll field a pacer-dominated bowling attack in this Test,” Mominul said in the pre-series virtual press conference. “I don’t think it'll reduce our chance to win the match. We've a reliable pace bowling attack consisting of experienced and new guys.

“The bowlers who proved themselves earlier— like Abu Jayed, Eabadot (Hossain) and Taksin (Ahmed)-- will get a chance in this series. Apart from them, Shoriful and other new pacers are also reliable.”It has been more than eight years since a Bangladeshi pacer recorded a five-wicket haul in Tests— Robiul Islam bagged five for 85 against Zimbabwe in Harare in April 2013. After that, no Bangladesh pacer was able to win a Test for the team.Bangladesh included Shohidul Islam and Mukidul Islam in the preliminary squad, who impressed in the first two rounds of the National Cricket League (NCL) which is on hold due to Covid-19 outbreak. However, they were not considered for the first Test.

Most of the members of the 15-strong squad came to this series without playing a longer version game after the home series against the Caribbean at home. However, the other members, including captain Mominul, played two matches in the NCL.Despite their lean show in overseas Tests for a long time, Mominul said they feel no pressure ahead of a new series outside their home backyard.
The Bangladesh captain said: “We're not under any pressure. We came here to play and win. We know that we failed to do well in the last two Tests at home. Despite that, we're confident of doing well in this series. We just have to focus on our game and play well in every session of the game.“We had a bad tour in New Zealand where we played six matches and lost all of them. But the condition is different here in Sri Lanka— it’s similar to Bangladesh. So we're confident of playing a good brand of cricket.”Bangladesh will miss the service of Shakib Al Hasan in this series as he is busy playing Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kolkata Knight Riders. Along with him, pacer Mustafizur Rahman is also out of the Test set-up as he is also playing IPL.“Shakib is crucial for every team. He is the number one all-rounder. It’s tough for us to set up a combination without him. We'll surely miss his service. But I think it’s a good chance for the guys who'll get in to replace him to do well and prove their mettle,” Mominul said. Both matches of this series will take place at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.Bangladesh squad for the first Test: Mominul Haque (Captain), Litton Das, Mohammad Mithun, Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, Shadman Islam, Abu Jayed Rahi, Taijul Islam, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mehidy Hassan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain, Saif Hassan, Yasir Ali Chowdhury, Shoriful Islam.

Without senior players, what Bangladesh’s ODI Cricket team could look like?
There comes a time when seniors must step aside to allow the next generation to take their place. Bangladesh’s senior cricketers will likely retire in the next two to three years. Especially Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan are already considering retiring from at least one format of cricket. So from now on, the selectors will have to focus on developing cricketers who will be able to represent Bangladesh in the future. Bangladesh has had the most success in one-day international cricket. So, without senior players, what Bangladesh’s ODI Cricket team could look like? This has been discussed in this article.
How Bangladesh’s ODI playing XI could shape up without their senior players
Shakib, Tamim, Mushfiq, and Mahmudullah have been playing together for more than a decade. Together they have won many matches for Bangladesh and as a result, these cricketers have witnessed many historic victories of Bangladesh. One thing is certain: the BCB has yet to come up with a better alternative for seniors. This is a failure on the part of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, and cricketers must take some of the blame as they are not able to take full advantage of the opportunity they are getting. Let's take a look at the future Bangladesh ODI XI.

Bottom Line
An XI for the One-Day International has been formed based on the current Bangladesh squad, which gives us an idea of what Bangladesh's ODI cricket team could look like without the senior players? Finding Shakib, Tamim, or Mushfiqur alternatives is a difficult task. However, Bangladesh has no shortage of talented cricketers. If properly nurtured, a good number of high-quality cricketers will develop in the future.
According to ODI captain Tamim, there will be no big changes in the Bangladesh ODI squad before the 2023 World Cup. In that case, a significant number of players who won the Youth World Cup 2020 will be regularly seen in the Bangladesh squad after the ICC 2023 World Cup. Many people believe that with the guidance of those youngsters, Bangladesh will win the first ICC Cricket World Cup.
