Kabori laid to eternal rest
Legendary actress Sarah Begum Kabori (Kabori Sarwar) was laid to eternal rest at the Banani graveyard in the capital on Saturday.
Her namaz-e-janaza took place after Zohr prayers.

Dhaka district administration honoured the eminent actress with a state guard of honour at the same place due to her status as a freedom fighter.
Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association president Misha Shawdagar, general secretary Zayed Khan, Bangladesh Film Directors Association president Sohanur Rahman Sohan and others, among others, attended the janaza.

However, due to the ongoing pandemic situation, she was not taken to the Shaheed Minar or FDC for her fans and co-artistses to pay last respect to the eminent face of Dhallywood's golden era.
One of the most beloved and well-respected face in the film industry of Bangladesh, Sarah Begum Kabori lost her battle with Covid-19 on Saturday at Sheikh Russell Gastroliver Hospital in the capital.

Kabori: The doyen of Bangladeshi cinema departs
The Covid-19 pandemic has affected millions worldwide, including in Bangladesh. And celebrities are no exception. While some have recovered, many others have succumbed to the virus.
The latest celebrity to lose the battle to coronavirus is veteran actress and former Awami League MP Sarah Begum Kabori.She was 70.
The popular actress passed away at 12.20am at Sheikh Russel Gastro Liver Institute and Hospital in Dhaka on Saturday, her son Shaker Chishti told reporters. She was on life support at the hospital since April 15.
Kabori had recently tested positive for Covid-19. Initially, she was admitted to the capital's Kurmitola General Hospital but was later shifted to Sheikh Russel National Gastroliver Institute & Hospital after her condition deteriorated.

The veteran actress, who received the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the film Sareng Bou (1978), stepped into the field of cinema as an amateur artiste at the age of 13.
In 1964, Kabori made her debut with Subhash Dutta's film Sutorang. During her chequered career, she worked with several actors, including Farooque, Bulbul Ahmed, Razzak, Alamgir, Sohel Rana, Ujjal, Wasim, Khan Ataur Rahman, Golam Mustafa, Anwar Hossain and ATM Shamsuzzaman.
She also acted in Titash Ekti Nadir Naam directed by Ritwik Ghatak, an Indian filmmaker, and appeared in Urdu film Bahana made by Zahir Raihan.

Apart from Sutorang and Bahana, she acted in many popular films -- Jolchhobi, Sat Bhai Champa, Abirbhab, Deep Nebhe Nai, Apon Por, Lalon Fokir, Titash Ekti Nadir Naam, Sujon Sokhi, Nil Akasher Niche, Sareng Bou, Kanch Kata Heera, Arun Borun Kiranmala, Devdas and Dui Jibon to name a few.
Awards
In her life term she received many awards, including Bachsas Award for Best Actress for her performances in Dui Jibon, Lalon Fakir, Sujon Sokhi and Sareng Bou. She also got Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.
Politics
In 2008, Kabori was elected as a member of parliament from Narayanganj-4 constituency on an Awami League ticket.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday expressed deep shock and sorrow at her demise. "Her contribution to politics and the cultural arena besides film will be remembered,” she said in a condolence message.

The PM also prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.

Actress Kabori on life support
Legendary actress Sarah Begum Kabori was put on life support on Thursday afternoon at the Sheikh Russel National Gastroliver Institute and Hospital in the capital.
The two-time national award winner actress had been infected with coronavirus.
Updates about her condition was shared by her son Shaker Chishti in a video message.
He said Kabori’s oxygen levels had been “fluctuating quite a bit”. “Sometimes it goes up, which is a good sign, but sometimes it's not, which is not a very good sign,” he said.
“We’re still not sure if she would need any further treatment or if it can get any complicated than it is already. We’re still hoping that she’ll be back and that she’s fighting," Chisti said.
He said his mother is still in fighting spirits.
"She's still in the senses, she spoke to me and I gave her my love. She's praying and she wants all of you to pray as well,” he said. “She constantly kept saying that I should take care of my youngest brother and asked about her other sons and everybody including our family members, friends, her supporters and fans."
"Please pray for her so that she can come back healthy and wouldn't require any complicated procedures," Chishti said.
Kabori was shifted to the ICU at Sheikh Russel National Gastroliver Institute and Hospital on April 8, where she is undergoing treatment for COVID-19. She was previously being treated at Kurmitola General Hospital after testing positive for coronavirus on April 5.
She has completed the shooting of her newly-directed film ‘Ei Tumi Sei Tumi’, for which she started shooting in March 2020. Eminent singer Sabina Yasmin is debuting as a music director in the film.
Born as Meena Pal on July 19, 1950, Kabori started her glorious journey on the silver screen at the age of 13 with the film ‘Sutorang’ directed by Subhash Dutta.
She received the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in ‘Sareng Bou’ in 1978 and later honoured with the Life Time Achievement award in 2013.
Kabori was elected a Member of Parliament from the Narayanganj-4 constituency on an Awami League ticket. She contested in the election in 2008 and served until 2014.
