BPL Football : Uttar Baridhara relegated from top league
League runners up Dhaka Abahani Limited forced Uttar Baridhara Club to relegate from the 12-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football crushing them by 5-2 goals in their last league match at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj on Sunday.
BFF senior vice-president Abdus Salam Murshedy MP handed over the league runners up trophy to Dhaka Abahani after the day' s match.
In the day's match, Brazilian striker Dorielton Gomes made a hattrick for the popular sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani scoring four goals in the18th, 23rd, 40th and 73rd minutes while another Brazilian Raphael Augusto netted other goal in the 58th minute.

Local medio Maruf Ahmed and Uzbek defender S Fozilov scored one each for Uttar Baridhara Club in the 48th and 83rd minutes respectively.
With the day's comfortable victory, Independence and Federation Cup champions Dhaka Abahani Limited completed the league engagements with winning note at the coffin of Uttar Baridhara Club.
Dhaka Abahani, which earler assured the league runners up position with two matches to spare, lost the last match to hattrick champions Bashundhara Kings by 2-3 goals, but made a good finishing on Sunday outplaying Uttar Baridhara.Club.

Uttar Baridhara Club (14 pts) which badly needed a win against giant Dhaka Abahani in the day's match to avoid relegation, failed achieve their tough target and relegated from BPL alongwith newcomers Swadinata KS (10 pts).
Bashundhara Kings earned a rare feat of clinching the hattrick title of BPL Football earlier securing 57 points from 22 matches with 18 win, three draw and one defeat against new comers Swadhinata KS in league opener.
Bashundhara Kings, which were deprived of the season's two major soccer trophies, deprived the Independence Cup and Federation Cup Football champions Dhaka Abahani for winning the triple crown in the season, by clinching the league title comfortably beating Abahani after three matches.
Dhaka Abahani, finished league runners up distantly securing 47 points from all the 22 encounters with 14 win, 5 draw and:3 defeats.
In the day's other match, Muktijoddha Sangsad KC (19 pts) escaped relegation beating 3rd ranked Saif SC (37 pts) by 3-2 goals at the Bir Shreshtha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.
Tetsuaki Misawa, Sudi Sbdullsh and Nawab scored one each for the freedom fighters team Muktijoddha while Mfon snd Sajan scored for Saif SC.

AFC Cup play off: Abahani to play Mohun Bagan on Tuesday
Six-time Bangladesh Premier League champions Dhaka Abahani Limited will meet Indian giants ATK Mohun Bagan of Kolkata in the last and final play-off match of the AFC Cup 2022 at the Yuvo Bharati (Salt Lake) Stadium in Kolkata on Tuesday.
The neighbouring titans' battle will kick-off at 7:30 pm Bangladesh time
Striker Nabib Newaj Jibon will lead the sky-blue Dhaka Abahani while Pritom Kotal will captain the green-maroon Kolkata Mohun Bagan in Tuesday's vital match.

The winners of the match will join Gokulam Kerala FC (India), Bashundhara Kings (Bangladesh) and Maziya Sports and Recreation Club (Maldives) in Group D of the AFC Cup main competition.
All the matches of Group D will be staged at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata from May 18 to May 24, 2022.
In previous two meetings, Dhaka Abahani conceded 1-3 goals defeat against Kolkata Mohun Bagan in their away match of the AFC Cup Football in Kolkata in 2017 while their home match against the same team ended in a 1-1 draw in Dhaka in the same year.
Earlier. the popular sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit Dhaka Abahani got a walkover against Club Valencia of the Maldives in their first play-off match of the AFC Cup with the latter withdrawing the team at the last minute due to funds crisis.

Ahead of Tuesday's key match, Abahanis head coach Mario Lemos believes they are capable of beating Mohun Bagan Club on their soil.
ATK Mohun Bagan's head coach Juan Ferrando wants to focus on beating Bangladesh-side Abahani Dhaka in the last play-off round match of the 2022 AFC Cup at the Salt Lake Stadium.
Mohun Bagan cruised past Sri Lanka's, Blue Star 5-0 in the second preliminary round of the 2022 AFC Cup last Tuesday with the Mariners thrashing their opponents courtesy of braces from Joni Kauko, Manvir Singh and a goal from David Williams.
Despite their resounding win last Tuesday, Ferrando reiterated that the playoff game against Dhaka Abahani is like a final and that it is very important for his side to focus on the all-important clash.

Premier Hockey: Abahani force Mariners to concede first defeat
Former champions Dhaka Abahani Limited halted Club Cup champions Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club’s all-win run beating them by 4-3 goals in a keenly contested super league match of the Green Delta Insurance Premier Division Hockey here on Thursday.
Dhaka Mariner Youngs’ Club needed just a draw in the day’s match to clinch their 2nd league crown with a match to spare against Dhaka Mohammedan SC on November 27, but they failed to give their best in the match held at the Maulana Bhasani National Stadium.
With the day’s shocking defeat, Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club not only conceded the first defeat in the league after winning the 13 consecutive matches, but also forced to halt their party to celebrate the league crown after winning the season’s curtain raiser meet Club Cup Hockey title.

By virtue of the day’s merited victory, Abahani topped the league table jointly with Mariner Youngs Club securing 39 points from all the 15 matches, against Mariner Youngs 14 matches.
In the day’s nerve shattering match, Dutch player Bjom Kellerman struck put Abahani ahead in the very 7th minute from a penalty stroke (1-0) while Sohanur Rahman scored twice from penalty corners in the 14th and 17th minutes to put Mariner ahead from behind (2-1).

Bjom leveled the margin for Abahani in the 26th minute from a penalty corner (2-2) while Shonaur Rahman again put Mariners ahead in the 28th minute from penalty corner (3-2).
Khorshdur Rahman scored two quick goals in a span of a few seconds in the last minute of the match, both from penalty corners guiding Abahani to a dream victory.

Club Cup Hockey: Mariner Youngs’ emerge champions beating Dhaka Abahani
Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club clinched the first-ever Club Cup Hockey title, the SIBL Club Cup Hockey Tournament’21, outplaying four times champions Dhaka Abahani Limited by 3-0 goals in the final at the Maulana Bhashani National Stadium here on Saturday.
Sohanur Rahman Sabuj struck twice in the 22nd and 58th minutes while Indian player Avishek scored the other goal in the 55th minute for the 2018 Club Cup runners up Mariner Youngs Clubm, shocking their formidable rivals and Dhanmondi outfit Abahani Ltd.
Avishek of the champion team was adjudged the best player of the tournament while Milan Hossain of the same team named as the highest scorer of the meet scoring six goals. Both the players got prize money of Tk 10,000 each from Khawja Rahmatullah Trust.

President of Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) and Chief of Bangladesh Air Force Air Chief Marshall Sheikh Abdul Hannan witnessed the day’s final as the chief guest.

Dhaka Abahani Limited and Dhaka Mohammedan SC made flying start in the SIBL Club Cup Hockey Tournament outplaying their rivals in the opening day’s matches at the Maulana Bhashani National Stadium here on Thursday.
In the day’s opening match, Dhaka Mohammedan SC outplayed Ajax SC by 8-2 goals featuring four goals by Ashraful Islam in the 16th, 25th, 36th and 58th minutes.

Lockdown forces Abahani to concede AFC Cup spot
The 6- times Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football champions Dhaka Abahani Limited lost their right to play in the AFC Cup preliminary match against the Club Eagle of the Maldives due to lockdown and travel restriction in Bangladesh.
The Abahani-Eagles clash was supposed to take place in Dhaka on April 21, and the play-offs were scheduled for April 28. However, the Abahani-Eagles match could not happen on time due to the worsening COVID-19 situation in Bangladesh and the resultant countrywide lockdown and travel restrictions

Abahani also chose Kathmandu as host for the match on April 21, but extended flight restrictions meant they could not avail that opportunity.
AFC had given Abahani an extended deadline to host the match. However, the club’s inability to meet that deadline resulted in them withdrawing from the competition. The Dhaka-outfit could not host the match because of the problems caused in the country by the outbreak of Coronavirus.
Later, AFC asked Abahani whether they could host Club Eagles in India but travel restrictions was one of the major hindrances for Abahani, who lastly attempted to host Eagles between May 5 and 7 in Dhaka, which too did not materialise due to the extension of travel restrictions.
In an official statement, the AFC Cup South Zone, the AFC COVID-19 Sub-Committee for AFC Champions League and AFC Cup (West) has also noted the mounting challenges faced by Bangladesh’s Abahani Limited Dhaka in meeting the extended deadline to host their AFC Cup Preliminary match against Club Eagles of the Maldives.

Taking into careful consideration the exceptional circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular the lockdown and travel restrictions in Bangladesh, the Sub-Committee decided that Abahani Limited Dhaka are considered to have withdrawn from the AFC Cup 2021 and that the situation constituted an event of force majeure.
The Sub-Committee also agreed to award the Playoff Stage slot to Club Eagles, who will now face India’s JSW Bengaluru FC for a place in the AFC Cup Group D on May 11, 2021 in Maldives.
"As per AFC official statement, Bengaluru FC will face Club Eagles in the play-off. The winner will join ATK Mohun Bagan, Basundhara Kings and Maziya S&RC in Group D of the AFC Cup 2021
