SC lawyer ZI Khan Panna among 180 sued for attempt to murder
A case was filed against 180 people including human rights activist and lawyer ZI Khan Panna and Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, for attempting to kill a student during the student-led movement on July 19.
Md Baker, father of victim Ahadul Islam, filed the case against them with Khilgaon Police Station on Thursday, said Md Daud Hossain, acting officer-in-charge of the police station on Sunday.
Police will investigate whether there is any truth in the allegation, said OC Daud.

According to the case statement, Ahadul along with others were staging demonstrations in the Meradia Bazar area during the recent mass uprising.
A group of police, BGB members and leaders and activists of Awami League opened fire on the protesting people, leaving Ahadul injured with bullet.
Later, he was taken to a local hospital.

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzman Khan, ,ex-public administration minister Farhad Hossain, former joint commissioner of DMP Biplab Kumar, former IGP Abdullah Al Mamun, former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman, former PBI Chief Banaj Kumar Majumder, former Director General of Rab Barrister Harun-or-Rashid were among the accused in the case.

Case filed over Kishoreganj train crash
A case has been filed in connection with Monday's deadly train accident in Kishoreganj that left at least 17 dead and scores injured.
Billal Hossain, on behalf of victims' families, filed the case with Bhairab Railway Police Station against three people on Wednesday morning, said Alim Hossain Shikdar, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Kishoreganj train crash: 16 bodies handed over to families
The accused were: driver of the goods-carrying train, Jahangir Alam; his assistant Atiqur Rahman; and director (guard) Md Alamgir.
Meanwhile, a probe body led by Fire Service visited Bhairab Railway Junction on Wednesday noon to investigate the accident.
Kishoreganj Train Collision: Fire Service forms another probe body
According to the control room sources, the container train violated the signal, triggering the fatal accident.
Three people have been suspended in connection with the incident.
Abul Kalam, chief of the probe body, said the probe report will be submitted within 15 days.
President, PM express shock, sorrow over Kishoreganj rail accident
At least 17 people were dead and several were injured when a cargo train rammed into two bogies of a passenger train at Bhairab Rail Station in Kishoreganj district on Monday. The accident occurred at 3:50 pm when the cargo train hit the Dhaka-bound Egarosindhur Godhuli Express, coming from Kishoreganj. The passenger train was standing on the outer tracks, on its way to Dhaka from the port city of Chottogram.

AL files two cases against 450 BNP men over a clash in Patuakhali
Two cases were filed against 450 leaders and activists of BNP, including the district presidents and general secretaries of Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, and Sramik Dal, in relation to a recent clash between Awami League and BNP in Patuakhali.
The clash occurred during a peace rally organized by the Awami League at the Muslimpara intersection in the municipality.
Two Awami League leaders filed the two cases at the Sadar police station.

No arrests have been made thus far by the police.
AL leader Raihan Hossain filed a written complaint on the night of May 20.
According to the complaint, while the peace rally was underway, BNP supporters allegedly ambushed the participants, vandalizing houses and shops, resulting in several activists being injured and subsequently admitted to the hospital.
The main defendant, in this case, is Monir Munshi, the General Secretary of the district Sramik Dal, along with 29 other leaders and workers. Additionally, 150-200 unidentified individuals have been named as defendants.
In another case filed at the same police station on May 21, District Jubo League Joint General Secretary Nasir Uddin, the plaintiff, stated that Jubo Dal members had launched an attack during their peace rally at the Muslimpara intersection, causing similar damages.
District Jubo Dal President Monirul Islam was made the main defendant in this case, listing 16 individuals by name and 200-250 others as unnamed defendants.
Md. Moniruzzaman, the Officer-in-Charge of the Patuakhali Sadar Police Station, said that both plaintiffs had made identical complaints.
He said, "The accused are currently evading arrest. Our efforts to arrest them are ongoing."
District Juba Dal President Monirul Islam Liton expressed that the BNP would also file a case against the Awami League attackers at the police station. He further stated that if the police failed to take action, they would approach the court.
A rally held in front of the Patuakhali district BNP office on Saturday morning, demanding the government's resignation, was disrupted by an attack from Jubo League and Chhatra League members.
The clash escalated into a violent confrontation, with both sides engaging in brick-throwing and vandalizing the BNP offices. Police resorted to firing tear gas to disperse the activists from both parties.
District Chhatra Dal president Ujjal Talukder and 30 leaders and activists from the BNP and Awami League reportedly sustained injuries during the clash.

Case filed against ward councillor in Natore over rape attempt
A case has been filed against a ward councillor as he allegedly tried to rape a woman in Natore's Naldanga municipality.
The accused is Abu Bakkar, councillor of Ward-1 of the municipality and president of the ward unit of Awami League.
On Sunday night, the woman’s husband, lodged a written complaint against Abu Bakkar at Naldanga Police Station.

Following the complaint, a case has been filed against the councillor under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, said Abul Kalam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Naldanga Police Station.
According to the case statement, on Sunday afternoon, councillor Abu Bakkar went to the house of the woman and tried to rape her in the absence of her husband.
Hearing her screams, when neighbours came, he fled the scene.
"Efforts are on to nab the accused councillor," added the OC.

Case filed over female physician’s killing at Dhaka hotel
A case has been filed over the killing of a female physician at a hotel room in Dhaka.
The case was filed at Kalabagan police station after victim’s father Mohammad Shafiqul Islam lodged a complaint against her lover Rezaul Karim Reza, said Saiful islam, Officer-in-Charge of Kalabagan police station.
“Rezaul was a banker but recently he was suspended. Efforts are on to arrest him as soon as possible,” said the OC.

The body of Jannatul Nayeem Sritika ,28, who was undertaking gynecology training from Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) after completing her MBBS was recovered on Wednesday night.
OC Saiful Islam, said. "There were marks of knife wounds on her body."
The manager of the hotel was detained and police suspected the doctor's boyfriend fled after killing her.

Case filed over killing Bogura Polytechnic student
A case has been filed over the murder of a Bogura Polytechnic Institute student in Bogura town.
Victim’s father Anishur Rahman Babu filed the case with Bogura sadar police accusing six people including Arif and Sohan, said Sajjadul Islam, sub-inspector (SI) of Banani police outpost of Shajahanpur.

Al Jamiul Boni, 22, a fifth-semester student of Computer Science at Bogura Polytechnic Institute, was stabbed to death allegedly by some miscreants in Colony area Friday evening.
Police said a month-long weaving and textile fair was underway at Bogura Mohammad Ali Hospital playground. As a part of this fair, some youths were selling lottery tickets in front of Taj Pharmacy in the Colony Battala area Friday evening.
Boni bought a lottery ticket from them. When Boni went to put down the lottery into the lottery box, he had an altercation with another youth named Sohan.
At one stage, some others along with Sohan hacked Boni mercilessly, leaving him seriously injured.
Later, he was taken to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where he died after a while.

The body was handed over to his family after an autopsy at around 1:15 pm on Saturday, the SI added.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Bogura sadar police station Selim Reza said the real cause of the crime is yet to be known. However, efforts are on to arrest the accused, he added.

A 33-year-old Bangladeshi female migrant worker has allegedly been tortured by 'human traffickers' in Saudi Arabia since April.
Victim’s mother filed a complaint with the Anti-Human Trafficking Offence Tribunal in Barishal on Monday.

The accused are Lucky Begum, wife of Delwar Hossain of Palashpur Guchhgram in Barishal, her son Ajman, Kazi Atahar Hossain, director of Aziz & Recruiting Agency in Dhaka’s Naya Paltan, Anwar Hossain, office executive of the agency and four or five more anonymous people.
Tribunal judge Manjurul Hossain directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the matter, said Md. Kakon, the bench assistant of the court.
Earlier, the accused allegedly trafficked the woman to Saudi Arabia through Aziz & Recruiting Agency on April 4 this year promising a job with a handsome salary.

The woman was sold there for unethical activities and held captive in a room in a city in Jeddah where she was physically assaulted.
On April 14, the victim called her mother and described her ordeals.
When the matter came to light, the relatives of the victim contacted the accused who demanded Tk 1,20,000 as ransom for her release.

Former in-charge booked over zebra deaths at Gazipur safari park
The former in-charge of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park has been booked in connection with the deaths of 11 zebras in January this year.
An FIR was filed against Tobibur Rahman under the Animal Welfare Act at the Sreepur police station in Gazipur on a complaint from his successor Rafiqul Islam.
In his complaint, Rafiqul claimed that his predecessor failed to promptly inform his seniors about the deaths of the zebras at the park between January 2 and 29.

Tobibur also didn't file a complaint following the deaths of the animals at the local police station and his decision to cut open the stomachs of three dead zebras was not acceptable, according to Rafiqul.

This has caused harm to national wealth and cruelty to the animals for which the FIR was filed under the Animal Welfare Act by the police against the accused, said Rafiqul.
Earlier, three officials -- the project director, the veterinary officer, and in-charge of the park -- were removed from their posts to ensure an impartial investigation into the deaths of the animals.
So far this year, 11 zebras, one lioness and a tiger have died at the park.

Another case lodged against Murad and Nahid in Pabna
Another case has been filed against former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murad Hassan and Youtuber Muhammad Mohiuddin Helal Nahid in a Pabna court for derogatory comments about BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and his family members on social media.
Advocate Arshed Alam, president of the Pabna District Nationalist Lawyers Forum, filed the case before the Pabna Chief Judicial Magistrate cognizance court on Wednesday morning.

Arshed said that all the members of the Pabna Nationalist Lawyers Forum were hurt and thus filed this defamation suit.

Case filed by ACC against NRB Bank director and his wife
The Anti-Corruption Commission ( ACC) on Monday filed a case against Director of NRB Bank M Badiuzzaman and his wife Nasrin Zaman for misappropriating TK 2.53 crore.
The case was filed with the Dhaka Coordinated Office of ACC on Monday after the investigation.

Deputy Director of ACC public relation office Muhammad Arif Sadeq told UNB that assistant director Saiduzzaman filed the case.
