Former MP Golam Faruk Ovi acquitted in model Tinni murder case
A Dhaka court on Tuesday acquitted former MP Golam Faruk Ovi in a case over the murder of model Syeda Tania Mahbub Tinni in 2002.
Judge of the Dhaka Second Additional District and Session Judge Shahinur Akter passed the order as allegations brought against the Jatiya Party leader could not be proved.
Advocate Syed Md Abu Zafar Rizvi, a state counsel, expressed dissatisfaction over the court order. “Decision for filing an appeal petition will be taken after seeing the full text of the verdict.”
Ovi remains absconding in the case.
Judgment deferred in Model Tinni murder case
Earlier on November 15, 2021, the court set January 14 to announce the verdict in the case.
On November 10, 2002, Tinni was found dead near pillar no. 11 of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge-1 over Buriganga River in Keraniganj.
Md Shafi Uddin, the then assistant sub-inspector of Keraniganj Model Police Station filed a case the following day.

The case was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on November 24, 2002.
The then investigating officer of the case Mozammel Haque submitted a chargesheet against Golam Faruk Ovi, a former MP and student leader, on November 8, 2008.

Judgment deferred in Model Tinni murder case
A Dhaka court on Monday deferred the pronouncement of the verdict in model Syeda Tania Mahbub Tinni murder case following a petition filed by her father and uncle .
Dhaka 7th Additional District and Sessions Judge Keshab Roy Chowdhury passed the order.
The court also fixed January 5 for recording the statements of two witnesses- Tinni’s father Syed Mahbubur Karim and her uncle Syed Rezaul Karim in the case.

Earlier, on October 26, the same court fixed November 15 for delivering judgement in the case.
According to the case statement, Model Tinni was found dead near no 11 pillar of China-Bangladesh Friendship bridge over the Buriganga River in Keraniganj on November 10, 2002.
A case was filed in this connection on the following day.
On November 24, 2002, the case was shifted to Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Investigation officer of the case Mozammel Haque submitted chargesheet in the case.
During investigation, police found involvement of Golam Faruk Ovi, former MP of Jatiya Party, in the case.
On July 14, 2010, Dhaka 7th Additional District and Session Judge framed charges against Ovi for killing Tinni.
