At least 25 people were injured in a clash between two groups of locals from six villages of Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila on Friday. The incident took place reportedly over a trivial matter at Chulna Bazar area around 7 pm.  Quoting locals, MM Siddikur Rahman, Chairman of Alog union, said there was an argument between some men of Gulpunodi and Naora villages over taking photographs. Also Read: Man killed in lynch-mob attack in Faridpur At one point, people from six villages split into two groups over the issue, resulting in a clash that lasted nearly an hour and a half.  People from Gulpunodi, Naora, Chulna, Shuadi, Chandra, and Oporpurti villages engaged in the clash with locally made arms, he said.  Read More: 4 more arrested for viral assault on father, son in Faridpur The groups attacked each other and the injured are currently receiving treatment at different hospitals, he added.  Md Ziarul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bhanga police station, said no complaint has been filed yet.  “The situation is now under control. Additional police were deployed in the area,” he said.   

Seven youths were arrested on Friday night in connection with the unprecedented attack on Karimpur Highway Police Station in Faridpur.  Abdullah Al Mamun Shah, officer-in-charge of Karimpur Police Station, and owner of the building housing the station, filed two cases with the station against unidentified persons in the case. Three policemen were also injured in the mob attack.  The arrestees are Sojib Bapar, 22, Rafi Mollah, 18, Parvez, 21, Akash Sheikh, 22, Sohel,18, Rakib Matobbor, 20, and Sazzad, 25. They are all the residents of Faridpur Sadar Upazila. We have already arrested 7 people in connection with the incident. The arrestees were produced before a court, which sent them to jail.”  Earlier locals arranged Waz-Mahfil or religious gatherings at Lakkhipur area of Kanaipur Union. It was announced that controversial Islamic preacher Abu Tawhaa would be the chief speaker in the Mahfil.   Hearing this, Kotwali police station decided to obstruct Tawhaa from attending the Mahfil and an official was sent to request the organisers not to invite him.
