Army training helicopter makes crash landing in Nawabganj, 2 pilots hurt
Two pilots were injured as a training helicopter of the Bangladesh Army made crash landing on a waterbody in Nawabganj Upazila of Dhaka district on Wednesday.
The pilots- Lt Col Ismail and Major Shams were shifted to Dhaka Combined Military Hospital by a helicopter, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Both the pilots are out of danger now, it says.

The accident occurred around 1:30pm due to mechanical fault when BELL-206 helicopter of the Army Aviation was practicing the emergency landing procedure as part of conducting routine training flights.
Local police are providing assistance for the security of the area and the helicopter.
Besides, security and rescue teams from Postgola and Mawa cantonments have left for the spot to salvage the helicopter.

11 cows burnt in Nawabganj farm fire
Eleven cows were burnt in a fire that broke out in Dhaka’s Nawabganj upazila on Monday morning.
The incident occurred early in the morning in West Chokbahra village when everyone was asleep.
Fire burnt down two tin-shed rooms where the cows were kept. The intensity of the fire was so harsh that the cows couldn’t even escape, said the farm owner Jewel.
He claimed that the amount of loss caused by the fire was Tk 30 lakh.

Witnesses couldn’t ascertain the origin of the fire. However, Jewel suspected that the fire originated from the fans inside the rooms, due to their over-heat.
Confirming the incident OC Sirajul Islam of Nawabganj Police Station said that the origin of the fire could not be ascertained yet. The owner has claimed a loss of Tk 30 lakh, he said.
Abbas, brother of Jewel, said that the whole family ahead of Eid-ul-Azha was involved in rearing the cows as they had plans to sell those in the market. “All our dreams have burnt to ashes,” he said.

The UNB correspondent while visiting the spot found the charred bodies of the cows lying at the farm.
Advocate Safil Uddin Mia, chairman of Bahra Union Parishad, said Jewel bought 11 cows with a loan ahead of the Eid, hoping that he could repay the loan from its profit.
He used to take care of the cows like his own children, now he has lost everything and become destitute, he said.

4 of a family killed in Nawabganj road crash
Four women of a family were killed after a truck hit an auto-rickshaw at Mrirdhakanda in Nawabganj upazila of Dhaka early Monday.
The deceased were identified as Moina Begum, 50, Rahela Begum, 40, Sufia, 30, and Mala Begum, 46, residents of Gungerpar area of Nayanshree union of Nawabganj.

Witnesses said the accident occurred around 7am when a sand-laden truck crashed into the auto-rickshaw carrying the four women on their way to Dohar, leaving them dead on the spot.
Sirajul Islam Sheikh, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nawabganj Police Station, said the killer truck has been seized.
A case has been filed in this regard, the OC added.

Septic tank workers: 2 dead after going down without protective equipment
Two workers died inhaling poisonous gases Monday while working in a septic tank at Nawabganj upazila in Dhaka.
The deceased were identified as Lutfor Rahman, 35, and Shanjay Dash, 21.
Sub-Inspector of Nawabganj police station Mintu Lashkar said, the incident happened at Khalpar area around 4pm.

The two workers went down inside the septic tank installed recently at a residential house in Nababganj, but as is so often the case in their line of work, they didn't have the proper equipment with them to avoid inhaling the toxic gases found in these tanks.
Eventually they fell unconscious. Locals later rescued and took them to upazila health complex where the doctor announced them dead.

Police have recovered the bodies and prepared postmortem reports. Legal procedures in this connection are ongoing, said SI Mintu.

7 cases of Indian Covid variant detected in Nawabganj: Doctor
Health authorities have detected the cases of Indian variant of coronavirus in seven workers of Ashrayan Project in Nawabganj upazila, Keraniganj.
Upazila health officer Dr Mohammad Shahidul Islam said on Saturday night that 10 workers who came from Chapainawabganj district were tested for coronavirus and seven of them detected with the Indian variant.

On May 18, the 10 workers came to join Matabpur Ashrayan Project at Nawabganj Keilile union. They all came in a truck along 63 other fellowmen.
As some of them had been suffering from cough, cold and fever, the authorities asked them on May 23 to provide their samples for Covid-19 tests but they refused to do so.
On May 25, a separate medical team was formed and it collected samples from some of the workers. After laboratory tests, the results of 10 workers came out Covid positive.
Apprehending the existence of Indian variant, the medical team sent the samples of the Covid-19 patients to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), Dhaka where doctors detected seven, out of the 10, infected with Indian variant on June 3.

Now all the infected patients are undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH), Dhaka.
“It’s a dangerous sign and all of them have been asked to follow the government's health safety protocols,” said Dr Shahidul.
The highly contagious Indian variant of the coronavirus was detected in Bangladesh for the first time on May 8.

Bangladesh closed its border with India for any kind of movement except that of cargo on April 26 which was later extended till June 14 to control the spread of Coronavirus as the situation in the neighbouring country deteriorated.

Two more test positive for coronavirus in Nawabganj
Two youths were diagnosed with coronavirus in Nawabganj on Tuesday, taking the number of confirmed cases in the upazila to eight.
Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex’s Medical Officer Dr Hargobinda Sarkar Anup said one of them is 26-year-old and the other is 32.
Both of them returned home at Munshinagar of Churain union from Narayanganj recently, he said.
Among coronavirus patients in the upazila, five are from Churain.
The new patients will be sent to Dhaka’s Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital or Kurmitola General Hospital for treatment, said Dr Anup.
Altogether 76 samples were sent to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) for testing and eight of them were found to be positive, he added.
Bangladesh has so far confirmed 101 deaths and 2,948 coronavirus cases.

One more tests positive for coronavirus in Nawabganj
A man, who returned from Narayanganj, was diagnosed with coronavirus in the upazila, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the area to six.
Confirming the matter, Dr Horgobindo Sarker Anup, medical officer of Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex, said they received the test report on Sunday night from the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
Earlier, five coronavirus cases were detected in the upazila.
Meanwhile, seven more people died of coronavirus in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours till Sunday, taking the death toll in the country to 91.
Besides, 312 more people tested positive for coronavirus during the period, raising the number of such cases in the country to 2,456.
