Magura clash over election: 68 people sued
Three days after the incident a case has been filed against 68 people in connection with the death of four people in a clash between supporters of two rival candidates in the upcoming Union Parishad election at Jagodal village in Magura Sadar upazila.
Anwar Hossain, brother of victim Sabur Molla lodged the complaint with Magura Police on Monday.
The clash occurred on Friday.

The killed were identified as member candidate Sabur Molla, 50, his brother Kabir Molla, 55, his cousin Abdur Rahman, 50, and Imran Ali, 32.
The clash erupted between the two groups for establishing supremacy, said Additional superintendent of police Quamrul.

42 detained over Rangpur arson attacks
Police have detained 42 people in connection with arson attacks on the homes of Hindu community members at Boro Karimpur Majhipara village in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur district over a post on social media on Sunday night.
The attackers set fire to 20-25 houses and shops of Hindus at the village around 8pm on Sunday, said deputy commissioner of Rangpur Asif Hasan on Monday.

The attackers also looted cash, cattle and other valuables from the houses.
Rangpur assistant superintendent of police Md Kamruzzaman said tension gripped the area on Sunday evening following a reported comment by a local Hindu teenager on Facebook.
Police reached the village to guard the house of the boy as tension mounted over the issue. Around 8.30 pm the miscreants set fire to some Hindu houses adjacent to the teenager's house, he said.
Later, police lobbed teargas shells and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.

Pirganj Fire Service Station officer Ratan Chandra Sharma said four units of firefighters from Pirganj, Mithapukur and Rangpur city rushed to the spot around 9pm to bring the fire under control.
Police have been deployed in the village to fend off further trouble.
DC Asif Hasan said a process is underway to file a case in this regard.

Mother, son among 3 killed in Sirajganj road crashes
Three people including a woman and her son were killed and 11 others injured in separate road accidents in Sirajganj district on Sunday night.
The deceased are Monwara Begum,45, her son Nayan,20 and an unidentified person.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Kamarkhanda police station Mosaddek Hossain said a truck hit a battery-run autorickshaw carrying Monwara and Nayan near Nalka bridge in Kamarkhanda upazila, leaving the duo dead on the spot.
Her daughter and the driver were severely wounded and they were rushed to Sirajganj 250-bed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital.
Meanwhile, Hatikumrul Highway Police SI Md. Abdullah Baki said an unidentified killed and nine others were injured in a collision between a bus and a tractor on Hatikumrul-Bonpara highway in Tarash upazila of the district.

1 killed, 4 injured in clash over a road accident in Sunamganj
A man was killed and four others got injured Sunday in Joykolosh village in Sunamganj during a clash over a road accident.
The deceased was identified as Lalu Mia, 45. Four of the injured were identified as Shahinur Mia, 22, Lalu Mia’s son, Salek Ahmed, 28, son of Rais Mia, Helal Mia, 40, and his father Amir Ali, 60.
Police have detained five people in this regard.
The incident occurred around 11am on Sunday.
According to police, Helal Mia was carrying passengers on his auto rickshaw when it hit one Fazlu Mia’s cow on the road.
At one point of the altercation between them, Fazlu Mia thrashed Helal Mia.
The two parties later engaged in a clash with local arms leaving Lalu Mia and four others injured.
After taking them to Sylhet M. A. G. Osmani Medical College Hospital, Lalu Mia died under treatment, said Kazi Moktadir Hossain Officer-in-Charge of South Sunamganj police station.
The situation in the area is under control now, he said.
Actions will be taken against the five arrestees after filing of a complaint, said the OC.

Child's body recovered; 2 remain missing from trawler that drowned in Meghna
The body of a child was recovered but two others remain missing after a trawler sank in the Meghna river near South Char Fashion upazila of Bhola on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Junayed, 3, while the trawler owner Swapan, 30, and his mother Bilkis Begum,50, remained missing, said police sources.
The trawler headed toward Kacchapia ghat from Char Patila drowned with nine passengers around 1 pm, said Abdul Hossain Mahajan, chairman of Char Kukri Mukri union.

Of the passengers, six got rescued by nearby trawlers.
Immediately after the incident Char Manika contingent coast guard and Dakkhin Aicha station police started a rescue operation to find the missing passengers.

Due to hostile weather and rough waves the rescue operation is being hindered, said LS Abdullah Al Mamun, one of the Coast Guard members in the rescue team.

One killed, 2 burn injured in Chatttogram blast
A man was killed and two others suffered burn injuries in a fire following an explosion at a house at Bayezid Balu chara in Chattogram port city on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Md Faruk alias Akash, 27.

The explosion occurred on the ground floor of the three-storey building around 10:30 am, leaving three people including a pedestrian injured, said Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Bayezid Bostami Police Station.
The injured were taken to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital with 70 percent burn injuries where a victim died.
On information, a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and doused the flame.

The second floor of the building houses a mosque and a madrasha and the other floors were used as mess, said the OC.
Fire service sources said the fire might have broken out flowing a gas cylinder blast.

2 motorcyclists killed in Gazipur road crash
Two motorcyclists were killed as their motorbike crashed into a truck on Rajabari road in Sreepur of Gazipur district on Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as Kajol Sardar, 30, and Abul Kalam, 40. Both were residents of Sreepur upazila.

Witnesses said the motorcycle crashed into the stationary truck on Rajapur road near Joynarayanpur of the upazila around 8:30pm, leaving Kajol dead on spot.
Kalam succumbed to his injuries on the way to a hospital, said Sreepur Police Station SI Abdur Razzak.

OC among 30 injured in Feni clashes
Thirty people, including the officer-in-charge of Feni Sadar Model Police Station, have been injured in sporadic clashes between police and local people on Trunk Road in Feni town.
Police said the Central Puja Udjapon Parishad took preparations to bring out a procession protesting the recent incidents of vandalizing puja mandaps around 4 am on Saturday.
As part of their scheduled programme, the leaders and activists of the parishad thronged in front of Joykali temple on Dhaka-Chattogram highway.
Some youths standing in front of the Boro Mosque, hurled brick chips targeting the Hindu devotees, leading to a chase-and counter-chase.
On information, a team of police, led by Nizam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sadar Model Police Station, rushed to the spot.
The clash spread to Boro Bazar, Boro Mosque, Central High School, Takia road and kitchen market areas of the district town, leaving 30 people, including OC Nizam Uddin injured.
A human-hauler was set on fire during the clashes.
Khandaker Nurunnabi, superintendent of Feni Police, said police lobbed teargas shells to bring the situation under control.
The clashes which started around 5 pm continued till 11 pm.
Thirty shops were vandalized during the clashes while some shops were looted.
However, the situation was brought under control after 11 pm, said Monir Hossain, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Feni Model Police Station.

Mymensingh road crash leaves seven dead
A speeding truck rammed into a stationary passenger-packed bus from behind on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on Saturday, leaving at least seven people dead and several others injured, police said.
Five of the dead were from the same family. They were identified as Fazlul Haque,35, his wife Fatema Begum,28, their son Abdullah,6, and daughter Ajmina,9, and Nazrul Islam,55, Fatema’s father.
The identities of the two other deceased could not be known yet, said police, adding that all those who suffered casualties were on board the bus.

The accident occurred around 3pm at Chelerghat in Trishal on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, said officer-in-charge of Trishal police station Mainuddin.
The crash killed five people on the spot. One succumbed to injuries on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, while another died in the hospital while under treatment.
Eight of the injured were admitted to the hospital.

Traffic on the highway was disrupted for two hours after the accident, police said.
OC Mainuddin said the bodies will be handed over to their families.
The truck driver could not be detained yet but efforts are underway to capture him, he said.

Medical student dies in quicksand of Jamuna River
A student of Dinajpur Medical College died after slipping into a quicksand near the bank of Jamuna River in Bagura on Saturday, police said.
Md Mosabbir Hossain alias Fine, 22, a second year student, went for a boat ride on the river in the morning. He stepped into the quicksand as he got down in the swallow waters close to the river bank near Prem Jamuna Ghat area in Sariakandi upazila.
Officer-in-Charge of Sariakandi police station Mizanur Rahman said Mosabbir was rescued from the quicksand by locals and rushed to Upazila Health Complex, where doctors found him dead.

His body was handed over to the family members and a case of unnatural death was filed in this regard, said OC Mizanur.
