Chuadanga, Sept 17 (UNB) – A tribunal here has sentenced a young man to life imprisonment in a gold smuggling case.
The lifer is Selim Miah, 24, son of Abdul Quader of Karpasdanga village in Damurhuda upazila.
According to the prosecution, a patrol team of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained Selim along with 1.648 kg gold from near Darshana Filling Station in Jibannagar upazila on October 31, 2018.
Havildar Shawkat Ali of BGB Chuadanga Battalion-6 had filed a case in this regard.
Judge of the Special Tribunal-1 M Rabiul Islam handed down the verdict on Monday afternoon after examining the records and witnesses.
