"Corrupt people will be brought to justice, no matter which party they to belong to. Bangladesh Police has been active with the anti-corruption campaign. Such campaign should continue in the days to come," he said.
The President was delivering his speech at a dinner programme at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban on the occasion of the Police Week 2020.
He expressed the hope that police will start the anti-corruption campaign from their own home. "Let not the whole police force is demeaned for a few corrupt members. Keep a careful eye on that," he added.
The President said corruption should be eliminated from the country and the society at any cost as a country lags behind due to corruption. "The steps taken by the current government to root out corruption are undoubtedly very helpful for the country and the society," he said.
He said the present government has adopted various plans to build a modern, efficient and professional police force to tackle contemporary crimes.
Abdul Hamid also hoped that the current government's multi-faceted initiatives to build police as a people-friendly institution to tackle the challenges of the 21st century will continue in the future.
Terrorism is currently under control in the country due to police's stern stance against it, he said, adding that the success of Bangladesh Police in combating terrorism has widely been praised not only in the country but also in the international arena.
He also called upon police personnel to take comprehensive measures to prevent any rise to militancy by engaging concerted efforts together with people through creating public awareness against militancy.
The President mentioned that the government established specialised units, including Tourist Ppolice, Marine Police, Special Protection and Security Battalion (SPbn) and Industrial Police, to provide specialised services while Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has been constituted for qualitative change in the investigation process.
"The people of the country started to get the benefits of these activities. I hope that these initiatives will bring more momentum to the functioning of the police and facilitate people to get desired services," he said.
Abdul Hamid also asked all police personnel to pay special attention so that general people do not face any harassment while seeking services from them.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary and Public Security Division Senior Secretary Mostafa Kamal Uddin were attended the programme.
