US Department of State’s Deputy Coordinator for Counterterrorism John T Godfrey visited Bangladesh from August 18-19 and discussed the issues with Bangladesh government officials and other partners.
Counterterrorism and countering violent extremism (CT/CVE) priorities in Bangladesh and the region, and cooperation with the United States in these areas came up for discussions.
US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller and Godfrey met Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque to discuss partnering with Bangladesh on CT/CVE initiatives in Bangladesh and the region, said the Embassy on Wednesday.
Godfrey also met Bangladesh’s Anti-Terrorism Unit and its Counterterrorism and Transnational Crime Unit to review implementation of bilateral CT/CVE programmes, related to law enforcement and the judiciary.
Ambassador Miller and Deputy Coordinator Godfrey also participated in a lively roundtable discussion with CT/CVE experts from academia, media, NGOs, and other sectors, sharing policies, priorities, and recommendations for addressing terrorism concerns in Bangladesh and the region.
