The detainee was identified as Shayela Sharmin, wife of Jahangirnagar University student Tanvir Ahmed, the alleged chief of ‘Neo-JMB’s IT department.
Acting on tip-off, members of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of police cordoned off a two-storey building at Gokulnagar around 5pm, said Maruf Hossain Sorder, superintendent of Dhaka district police.
Later, they conducted a drive on the ground floor of the building and detained Shayela around 9pm, he said.
A number of hand grenades, three dummy pistols, a knife and several other local weapons were also recovered from there, the SP said.
“Neo-JMB’s IT chief Tanvir was plotting to carry out acts of sabotage in different areas of the country. We’re trying to arrest him,” he said.
The couple rented the flat around one and a half months ago. The flat, believed to be owned by expatriate Akhter Hossain of the area, used to remain under lock and key most of the time, he added quoting locals.
