A total of 10 people have died from causes related to flood in the last 24 hours till Tuesday noon, raising the death toll to 129.
According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre, the flood situation may improve in Kurigram, Gaibandha, Bogura, Jamalpur and Naogaon district until Wednesday noon while it is likely to remain unchanged in Natore, Sirajganj, Tangail, Manikganj, Faridpur, Madaripur, Chandpur, Rajbari, Shariatpur, Dhaka, Narayanganj and Brahmanbaria districts.
In Kurigram, water in Dharla and Brahmaputra Rivers started to recede but yet to go below the danger level.
The Brahmaputra was flowing 48cm above the danger level at Chilmari point and 24cm above at Nunkhawa point while the Dharla was flowing 8cm above the danger mark at Bridge point on Tuesday morning.
As the floodwater started to recede, people are now trying to return to their homes pounded by flood.
Though they got relieved from the problem of water-stagnancy, they are now facing a harsh reality with their damaged dwellings and other losses.
Most of the flood-affected people are now in dire financial crisis as they have been stuck either at shelters, or their respective homes for over a month. Besides, they are facing scarcity in fodder for their cattle.
Md Rezaul Karim, deputy commissioner of Kurigram, said a total of 16,100 families in 22 unions of nine Upazilas were affected by the first phase of floods when 11 people drowned.
In the second phase of floods, 63,130 families in 56 unions were reported to have been inundated while eight people drowned in floodwater.
The district saw erosion along 7 kilometres of riverbank and damage of crops on 7,767 hectares of land.
10 die in 7 districts
A total of 10 people have died from causes related to flood in seven districts in a span of 24 hours until Tuesday noon, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a regular bulletin.
According to the DGHS, six people drowned in flood water in Lalmonirhat, Sirajganj, Jamalpur, Tangail, Rajbari and Munshiganj districts while two died in lightning strikes in Jamalpur and Tangail while two more in Gaibandha.
Situation in major rivers
Water in Brahmaputra and Jamuna rivers is likely to recede until Wednesday noon while Padma’s water level may remain unchanged in the next two days.
The FFWC also said water in the rivers surrounding the capital city may recede.
But the Dharla and Teesta rivers are likely to swell again until Wednesday noon.
7,147MT rice distributed among flood victims
The government has so far distributed 7,147 metric tonnes of rice among the flood-affected people as humanitarian assistance.
According to information received from the local administrations of 31 flood-hit districts, the government has disbursed Tk 2,02,12,700 in cash among flood vicitms, Tk 34.94 lakh for baby food, Tk 57.59 lakh for fodder and 82,012 packets of dry foods till Monday.

Besides, the government also distributed 100 bundles of corrugated iron sheet and Tk 3 lakh cash for building houses in the flood-hit areas.
The flood-hit districts include Dhaka, Gazipur, Tangail, Manikganj, Faridpur, Munshiganj, Rajbari, Madaripur, Shariatpu, Kishoreganj, Mymensingh, Netrakona, Jamalpur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Brahmanbaria, Rajshahi, Naogaon, Natore, Sirajganj, Bogura, Rangpur, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Sunamganj.
