The officers-in-charge (OCs) of police stations must be as enchanting as the Pied Piper of Hamelin to win the hearts and minds of the public, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed said Saturday.
The IGP came up with the remark while addressing August's crime review meeting of Dhaka Range as the chief guest.
Habibur Rahman, the deputy inspector general (DIG) of Dhaka Range police, chaired the meeting. Superintendents of police (SPs) and officers of all the districts under the range attended it.

Comparing the society with a flowing river, the IGP said as the society changes, the law and order and crime situations follow suit. So he directed the field level officers to keep up with these changes.
Describing beat policing as an effective method, Benazir said it can play an effective role in maintaining law and order and controlling crime in every union.

Referring to the responsibility of the higher ranking policemen in making their subordinates competent, the IGP said good examples should be set for them. "We have to motivate and supervise them. Every police member must perform duties with professionalism."
Also, the IGP expressed satisfaction over the innovative practices of the Dhaka Range, and suggested other units should follow the same.
